Feat that increases max ranks limit? (or, I want an ECL10 7th-level Ur-Priest)

May 23, 2009 13:14:10 There's no feat that allows you to increase the allowable maximum ranks for a skill or skills in 3.5, is there? I'm putting together a character for a 10th-level pit battle, and I'd love to figure out a way to make Duskblade 3 / Ur-Priest 7 fly, which it could were it not for those pesky 8-rank skill requirements.

Failing that, are there any other good prestige classes with 9th-level spells in 10 class levels that I could take a look at in the Ur-Priest's place? I really like the idea of channeling Harm with the Duskblade, as well as having access to True Seeing for the battle.

well that'll still get you one casting of harm per day. provided you have a wis of 22
if you REALLY want harm, and you dont have the stat points to get 22 wis, youll have to do accelerated casting.
what about duskblade 4/ur-priest 1/contemplative 1/divine oracle 1/bloodline 3?
that will grant you 9th level ur-priest casting(and an overpoweringe stench of cheddar)

Bloodlines don't grant spellcasting progression, only caster level. That character would only cast 3rd level spells-- and can't qualify for contemplative either, since I believe that requires 13 ranks in knowledge (religion)

Yes. Just to clarify, Manifestor Level, Caster Level, Effective Binder Level, and Initiator level are all special things that are worded such that they are boosted by Bloodlines. Not spellcasting advancement (Ardent Manifesting is a special case w.r.t. psionic powers accessible).

Why is it useless? I mean, the feat can be taken only once, i.e., it won't help for ur priest, but generally this seems to work, right?
Primary Contact: Choose one skill (...) You gain 1 bonus rank in that skill (even if doing so would put you above your normal maximum ranks for that skill).

Spellcasting is one of the items bloodlines specifically talk about advancing and provide examples of how it is done-- spells per day and spells known are not progressed. +1 spellcasting progression is not affected by bloodlines-- it isn't an ability, it's a class feature that progresses an ability.
