Nov 29, 2010 8:54:09 now i dont know if this is house rules or not but anyways. we will be gestalting. im looking for a way to change a race to gain the appropriate prereq like a dvanti. now it says that i will be allowed to use my spell-like abilites and that extends to warlock for this game. also if i just go for imp savage progression then i will be able to gestalt there as well (pretty much something like multiclassing where you get to pick anything you want at the level you want) so on to my questions:

How do you get another race that doesnt qualify for fiend of possesion to qualify? what can i keep or not keep when possesing? what goes good with fiend of possesion or warlock? anything else you wanna add?

Dec 01, 2010 8:59:33 The first part is hard. There are ways to become an Outsider (templates for instance), but then you need to get the Evil subtype. There's a ritual for that in Savage Species IIRC, but it's ridiculously expensive. Yet I don't think there's another way. There was a thread about that a long time ago... it's probably disappeared now, but you can try searching the Handy links for it.

Hellfire Warlock goes well with Warlock, as do the Eldritch X PrCs in Complete Mage that also let you progress arcane or divine casting. Straight Warlock is ok as well.

Binder goes well with FoP since Su abilities are still usable.

huh, any low level templates you know of? what wouldnt work as im possesing like feats or special abilities? would helfire warlock use the con of the possesey? i never even thought of binder thanks, kinda a possesion for the possesor lol, so does the possesey take on aspects of bind too?

Dec 04, 2010 13:23:00 Pseudonatural Creature (CA) is a LA +1. In Faerun you can take the Otherworldly feat with certain races to change your type to Outsider.

I haven't reread all the relevant abilities, but going from memory:
- hellfire would still use your Con
- the possessed would not show the sign of the vestige

2) This is explained in the text of the abilities. It depends on whether you possess an item or a creature, and actively or passively.

The fiend now acts as though it is the creature in all respects, until it loses or relinquishes control. The fiend uses its own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores, but adopts all of the possessed creature’s physical ability scores. It can make use of its own spell-like abilities as well."

It doesn't mention Su abilities so going pure RAW you can't use them but it just makes sense that you actually can. After all the PrCs' abilities are Su.

Dec 07, 2010 8:45:52 well that changes things a bit, i would have prefered not to have a level 2 adjustment but think im going for a psuedonatural dvanti gestalt warlock and something else (if it works then binder) any suggestions besides binder? i was planning on making helfire warlock another prestige class but it wouldnt work like id like it to so no i guess not. im guessing the knights challenges wouldnt work either but would have been awesome with being able to pull all the enemies to attack me. what other prestige classes work well with this?

Edit: "but adopts all of the possessed creature’s physical ability scores" wait doesnt that mean that i could use the con score of the possesed to fuel my helfire? killin 2 birds with one helfire? that brings up something else, can i possess an undead? or a construct? huh, that makes me wonder what i cant posess. oh what if i use a warlock power that targets me, would it just target me or target the possesed as well or just the possesed? dam well if i was dvanti that would start gettin confusing lol. wow so many oppertunities so little time.

Yes you can possess undead and constructs. Pretty much only Protection from Evil stops you.

For the rulings, ask your DM. Most of this stuff isn't well-defined.
