Hey guys

I'm a long time reader first time poster. English is not my first language, so please excuse poor wording and so on.

Anywho, my friends and I are starting a new campaign this weekend. Starting level is 20, I have access to all books, no real restrictions (though I have to run everything by my DM). I originally wanted to play a sorcerer ray-caster (debuffer) / BC'er, I found the amount of spells known were too low for my liking though, so I started looking into various wizard builds. I came across a build by Mommy was an Orc (all hail!) that I really liked, I played around with it a little and this is what I came up with:

Human Fighter 1 / Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 5 / Incantatrix 3 / Spelldancer 2 / Incantatrix +1 (4) / Magelord 7 / Incantatrix +1 (7)

Prohibited Schools: Evocation, Enchantment, Necromancy (Incantatrix)

Abrupt Jaunt Variant

Flaw: Noncombatant
Flaw: Vulnerable
Flaw: xxxx

Starting Int 18

F: Iron Will
F: Able Learner (optional)
F: Combat Casting
H: Improved Initiative,
1: Fighter: Dodge, Mobility
2: Focused Specialist (Conjurer): Scribe Scroll
3: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 2: Sculpt Spell
4: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 3: 19 Int
5: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 4:
6: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 5: Spell Mastery, Endurance
7: Incantatrix: Signature Spell
8: Incantatrix 2: Int 20; Send Away
9: Incantatrix 3: Weapon Focus (Ray); See Ethereal
10: Spelldancer: Spelldance
11: Spelldancer 2: Enthralling Dance, Evasion
12: Incantatrix 4: Extend Spell; Int 21; Strike Ethereal
13: Magelord: Sneak Attack 1D6
14: Magelord 2: +1 Spell
15: Magelord 3: Spell Mastery; Signature Supremacy (4th)
16: Magelord 4: Int 22; +1 Spell
17: Magelord 5: Int 27 (Tome of +5 Int) Sneak Attack 2D6
18: Magelord 6: Spell Mastery; +1 Spell
19: Magelord 7: Signature Supremacy (9th)
20: Incantatrix 5: Persistent Spell; Int 28

Mastered Spells:

Level # Max Level
6 4 spells 1-3
14 1 spell 1-7
15 5 spells 1-7
16 1 spell 1-8
18 9 spells 1-9
Total: 20

This should give him the best of both the wizard and the sorcerer. I'm missing out on the best part of the Incantatrix, but it's mainly in there for the 2 extra bonus metamagic feats. Spelldance and Persistent Spell should be fun :P. The 3 prohibited schools bug me, especially missing out on Enervation (max 3rd level necromancy ), but the amount of spells per day is uber. I haven't done the skill calculation, so I'm not 100% sure it's doable, though.

The original build by Mommy was an Orc is as follows:

Human Fighter 1/Wizard 10/Spelldancer 2/Magelord 7 Assume a starting Int of 16...

1: Fighter: Dodge, Improved Initiative, Mobility
2: Wizard: Scribe Scroll
3: Wizard 2: Combat Casting
4: Wizard 3: 17 Int
5: Wizard 4
6: Wizard 5: Spell Mastery, Endurance
7: Wizard 6
8: Wizard 7: 18 Int
9: Wizard 8: Weapon Focus(Ray)
10 Spelldancer 1
11: Spelldancer 2
12: Wizard 9: Signature Spell: 19 Int
13: Magelord 1
14: Magelord 2: +1 Spell
15: Magelord 3: Spell Mastery
16: Magelord 4: 20 Int: +1 Spell
17: Magelord 5: 25 Int(book of inherent bonus +5 - whatever it takes to do this)
18: Magelord 6: Spell Mastery: +1 Spell
19: Magelord 7
20: Wizard 10!: 26 Int: Spell Mastery

If you guys could give me pointers (especially regarding errors) I would appreciate it.

Edit: Removed Empower Spell. Added Extend Spell, and switched it with Persisent Spell

Edit 2: I'm not sure the skill points will add up, so adding a flaw and taking Able Learner is propably adviced. Also, missed Incantatrix required a metamagic feat, adding another flaw (making it 3, our usual cap) moving Combat Casting up as a flaw-feat and adding Sculpt Spell at level 3, should make it work.

Edit 3: Did the skill calculation and with Int 18 it works without Able Learner. Our DM encourages us to use flaws only when need to make a build work, so for me it's optional.

I dunno about the rest of the build, but if you're using Spelldancer, go Necropolitan or find some other way to become immune to fatigue and CON damage. (Because that's all that limits the amount you can Spelldance.)

That's a good idea, Emy. Very cheesy. ;)

For a slightly less cheesy method, Sheltered Vitality is a cleric spell that prevents fatigue. Not sure about Con damage.

With the Incantatrix Metamagic Effect ability, you're gonna want Persistant Spell alot sooner in your career if you can fit it.

EDIT: Oh you're starting at lvl20 didn't read that

-Is Combat casting a prerequisite? If not, get rid of it.
-You have to ban one more school if you are a Focused Conjurer. That alone takes out three and Incantatrix takes another one.
-Is there a houserule that allows you to take three flaws?

Yes it is for Spelldancer

Damn, 4 banned schools is too much in my opinion. And yes, we can take 3 flaws, if it's required to make our builds work.

You still might want to check out Sculpt spell's prerequisites. I think it needs another metamagic feat..

So, I did some more tinkering. Sculpt Spell did indead need another metamagic feat, and considering Incantatrix would have me at 4 banned magic schools I pulled it out of the build.

F: Combat Casting
H: Improved Initiative,
1: Fighter: Dodge, Mobility
2: Focused Specialist (Conjurer): Scribe Scroll
3: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 2: Extend Spell
4: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 3: 19 Int
5: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 4:
6: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 5: Spell Mastery, Endurance
7: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 6:
8: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 7: Int 20
9: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 8: Weapon Focus (Ray)
10: Spelldancer: Spelldance
11: Spelldancer 2: Enthralling Dance, Evasion
12: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 9: Signature Spell; Int 21
13: Magelord: Sneak Attack 1D6
14: Magelord 2: +1 Spell
15: Magelord 3: Spell Mastery; Signature Supremacy (4th)
16: Magelord 4: Int 22; +1 Spell
17: Magelord 5: Int 27 (Tome of +5 Int) Sneak Attack 2D6
18: Magelord 6: Spell Mastery; +1 Spell
19: Magelord 7: Signature Supremacy (9th)
20: Focused Specialist (Conjurer) 10: Persistent Spell; Int 28

I really would have liked a few more metamagic feats, so if anyone knows of a PrC which gives bonus metamagic feats within the first 5 or so levels without too many prerequistics that would be awesome.

Mage of the Arcane Order. It would also add another set of "Spontaneous" spells.

Do Hathran instead. It is the female circle magic class from FR. The first ability allows you to spontaneously cast all your spells if you are in Rashemini.

Sure at first glance that may not sound all that good but combine that effect with this spell.

Acorn of Far Travel
Transmutation
Level: Druid 2, Ranger 2
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 minute
Range: Touch
Target: One acorn
Duration: 1 day/level or until expended
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

Acorn of far travel must be cast upon an acorn that is still attached to a living oak tree. As you cast the spell, the spirit of the oak tree wells into the acorn, which detaches into your hand once the casting is complete. As long as you carry the acorn (and as long as the acorn is not stored in an extradimensional space like a bag of holding), you are considered to be standing under that oak tree's canopy (and thus within an area of forested terrain). Whenever you cast a spell that has additional effects when cast in forested terrain (such as deadfall, creaking cacophony, fey ring, or splinterbolt), you can choose to use the acorn as an additional material component for that spell. Doing so consumes the acorn immediately, but the spell's effects manifest as if you stood in forested terrain no matter what your actual location. Likewise, you can use the acorn as an oak tree for spells like tree stride or transport via plants; this also consumes the acorn.

Dryads gain an additional benefit from this spell. If a dryad spellcaster casts this spell on an acorn harvested from her bonded oak tree, she is considered to be in contact with her tree at all times, despite the actual distance between her and the tree. A dryad spellcaster can thus use this spell to travel great distances from her tree without growing sick.

You can have only one acorn of far travel spell in effect at any one time. If you cast it more than once, any acorn of far travel spells you may have already in effect immediately end. The magic of the spell is not bonded to you, though. You can pass the infused acorn to others, allowing them to gain the benefits of this spell.

Material Component: A fallen leaf taken from the oak tree from which the acorn is to be harvested.

If you plant the oak tree (which is part of your base) in Rashemini, and cast this spell you are always considered in Rashemini.

Thus all your spells are now spontaenous, even the obscure ones you never plan to use. At epic levels you can have the entire blessed book filled up multiple times over.

----

Oh Hathran also gets the beauty of circle magic, leadership, and the epic hathran progression gives you an epic bonus feat every other level instead once in 3 levels.

Frankly, I would just take normal specialist and use Incantatrix. Incantatrix simply owns anything Focused specialist gives over normal specialization.

I agree with Tshern: Focused Specialist Incantatrix loses too much. Also, why the Fighter level?

Uncanny Forethought (Exemplars of Evil) is really cheap spontaneity. Get Spontaneous Divination (CC) and then you can simply go Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/X 5. Insert Spelldancer if you want it.

Spelldancer AND Incantatrix in one build? What for?
Just persist w/Incantatrix ability and throw Spelldancer away, it's whole lot of stupid feats - dodge, combat casting.... ewww.
