Hey guys, this is a two part question.

First I have dual classes fighter an paladin. Ok i know this is a strange dual class so let me explain the situation. I have been playing the same character for a few years now on and off. We have stared a new campaign as a following on from a previous one, using mostly the same characters. (boring i know, but there is alot of history and the story is quite interesting, so far the dm has not disappointed the second time round). I want to add a few levels of paladin as i feel after resent events in the campain this is a direction my character would take.
Anyway, my question is about attack bonuses. my character is currently a 12th level 1/2elf fighter. If i tack on a level of paladin (making him fighter 12 / paladin 1) will his base attack bonus go from +12/+7/+2 too (+13/+7/+2) or (+13/+8/+3). basically i'm asking will the +1 bonus go to all attacks or just the first. I'm geussing that it will only go to the first; however, i've thaught about it and i don't see why it shouldn't go to all attacks. I play in a combat heavy campaign and as a fighter i am always in the front line. Secondly, the paladin is also a warrior class; all of the paladin abilities are granted by is deity and hence should be able to be granted through prayer and no great level of training, leaving plenty of time to practice swinging a sword. Finally, as far as the trade off in abilities is concerned, i would no longer be gaining extra feats or have access to higher level feates for foghters, hence balancing out, to some degree, the additioinal paladin abilities.
Does anyone think i have a case to take to the dm, or am i plucking at straws?

Secondly, are there any prestige classes anyone knows of that might interest me, as i've had no luck finding any and the dm isn't keen on letting me write my own!
I don't really need to be able to cast spells, cure disease or gain a special mount as a mid level paladin would, so I want to take a few levels then prestege class him. I really just want to make 3rd level paladin to gain imunity to fear and disease.
I want the prestige classto:
*continue leveling as a fighter (to keep my attack bonus progresion)
*allow me to gain a favoured enamy (evil outsiders, specifically demons)
*at least d10 hit dice
*any other abilities would be a bonus!

Thanks for taking the time to read my very long questions and i look forward to your answers!

cheers, john

Iterative attacks are part of the rules on base attack bonus, not something granted by a specific class's base attack bonus. They just put those in the table to make it easy to remember. Anything with full BAB will continue your progression just as the fighter table shows.

There's a Paladin variant in Unearthed Arcana that gains a favored enemy (Limited to certain types including evil outsider) by giving up Lay On Hands, Turn Undead, and Remove Disease.

Your sort of question is probably better asked in the "What's a Player to do?" forum unless it's been swept away in the great forum extinctions. People here may turn your hand grown and loved fighter into a maneuver wielding magic flinging time stopping death machine. That said...

Extra attacks due to high BAB happen regardless of where your bab comes from. thus a Fighter(12)/Pal(1) has the same attacks as a Fighter(13). +13/+8/+3.

There's tons of paladin prestige goodness in Complete Champion, what books do you have access to? Consider Crusader instead of Paladin. Also, if you're ok with a longer investment, Cleric will pay off well.

Fighter(12) is a sub-optomal way to start a build. If you are desiring more power, I'd recommend a more percise build. If you arn't desiring super damage dealing potential, you are on the wrong board.

So hay, what books ya got access to, and can you change your previous levels? What feats do you have?

Thanx for the reply guys,
I have access to the basic books and a couple of extras like complete warriors and complete dicine for example, not a big range.

Sorry if i am in the wrong forum, i'm new to the forum scene. I don't necessarily need to be able to do a tonne of damage, but I he needs to be able to resist magic as much as possible, as we are constantly fighting demons and high level magic users.

I am limited a little in that my DM is quite conservative. He plays a sort of semi real campaign with magic dumped on would be the best way to describe it. No big rediculus tanks basically.

We're really into the story and esentially my character is there to kill demons!

Thanx in advance guys

Just getting your Cha high will be a good start as far as protection from magical attacks go; Divine Grace is your best friend here. Once you've got that, work on your touch AC and/or getting miss chances.

Thanks again guys for the replies,
I am looking for a prestige class though. I like paladins but I don't see my character as a spell caster. Any variant on Paladin's without spells would be appreciated too. I've done a little more research and I've been reading about infused warriors, and divine champions. Both interest me but aren't quite what I'm after. I like the take on divine champions but The feats are limiting, and I would never use lay-on-hands. Something like that with a favored evil enemy (evil outsiders or the like) would be better. I really like infused warrior, as they gain special abilities; however, as I've already eluded to, my DM is quite conservative and I don't see him letting me infuse my character with the essence of a celestial being at a whim! Basically, I'm looking for a divine character who loves killing demons.

Thanks again for the replies guys, they've been helpful so far!

Cleric(1), Ordained Champion(n) is a pretty good bet. Mix and match domains as best as you can, swapping out for awesome devotion feats as awesome dictates. You end up with turning attempts to power devotion feats and any divine metamagic you might pick up (not sure what you'd use with low level cleric spells.) This is a smash things prestiege class, not an anti-demon one.

Divine Crusader doesn't get full BAB, but gets you access to that high level spell you want (timestop?) Depending on the domain, it could be anti-demon.

Holy Liberator is kinda like a paladin in a prestige class. And they get heroism!

Your never-use-lay-on-hands stance is a strange one, most people use free healing when it's handed to them. I guess you need more paladin levels to make it useful at these high levels. (respec half your levels to paladin levels!)

Looking back at your wants from a prestiege class, I'd recommend... Ranger or Prestiege Ranger if you can swing the requirements (hard for this character.) A level of cleric would be much more benifical than a level of paladin. Everyone wants travel devotion. There may be an anti-outsider devotion feat also, I only know the commonly useful ones.

Basically, I'm looking for a divine character who loves killing demons.

Paladin(Favourite Enemy variant, UA)/Knight of the Chalice10(CWar)

Is probably not the best optimisationwise but sure likes to beat up demons :D
(+4 to hit/+4d6+6 damage vs demons without feats)

Theme-wise the Hellreaver PrC from Fiendish Codex II fits you very well. A hellreaver uses "fury points" to boost his attack bonus and damage to evil outsiders or also to heal himself, buff his saves or AC, etc. He also get some other abilities useful against evil outsiders. At tenth level he can insta-gib an evil outsider who does not make his save.
The entry requiremens are practially non-existant (knowl. The Planes 4 ranks and Power attack, duh) and it's a class that scales fairly well. It's not on the level of superb damage dealing, but it doesn't do too badly, since you can put your attack bonus directly back into Power attack (ideally of course with 2hd weapon ). It does better than above-mentioned Knight of the Chalice, for instance. Unfortunately you can't boost your full-attack, only the first attack will get the bonus - and power-attacking too much with that will screw your iteratives.

You do need a bit of Cha, though, since your fury points depend on class level + Cha-mod. Even so, most abilities don't use a lot of points.

Thanx for the reply Brainpiercing. Good ideas, unfortunately I've been playing this character a long time, started him in 2nd ed as a novice player. Looking back, and now having alot more knowledge I would have done things very different. I don't use lay on hands much because I know no charisma bonus (again a novice mistake on creation) and we have a soccerer in the group who demands all the charisma items, that and I have a cleric henceman who is never to far away! Anywho I gained paladin level because I really wnated inummity to fear, and disease (again because we fight alot of demons/devils). I am working on the charisma problem tho and that'll help with a few of the other abilities.

cheers
