As you may have read on other threads I have been putting together, rather clumsily, a 12th level pc. My latest question is on metamagic feats and which is a must considering my very limited feats. My pc is either a 10th Sorcerer or a 12th depending on which build I go with. My question is for a skirmishing melee combatant / arcane caster such as this what metamagic feats do I go with?

I had seen split ray, I thought it was a waste, BUT I then looked at spells like
scorching ray, ray of enfeeblement. Scorching ray then has 24d6 potential! And Ray of Enfeeblement 2d6 +10 minused from strength...all of a sudden split ray's lookin good!

other potentials and why, taking in consideration my limited feat

doesn't work like that. Split ray pushes Scorching Ray to 16d6, and penalties from RoE do not stack.

That being said, Enervation, and ray spells which DO deal stat damage, do benefit. That being said, blasting != melee, unless you Hold Ray or something like that.

Quicken is a (nearly) definite must, but requires Rapid Metamagic to go with it, so it's expensive.

Empower and Twin are considered probably the best boosts, but the combo of
extend and persist on round/level type spells is very effective, although bit of a waste on a sorcerer, I think. hm.

...Depending on spell selection, anyway. Also, IIRC, Jade Phoenix allowed free metamagic after hitting with a strike. Something to consider.

What's the rest of the build look like? Are you a gish, or just a straight sorc that wants to melee every now and then?

Senevri is right in that blasting and melee ability are pretty redundant without channel spell or the like.

Its a 12th level campaign, gestalt. The party Psion/Bladedancer/Psionic weapon Specialist/ and 1 level of Elocater is saying 'I dont care what build you make the game favors psions period". We have the psion handbook and the 2nd book we have is expanded psionic the one with the soulknife on cover?

My build is 6 sorcerer - 6 swift blade (prc from wotc website) / 3rd Half elf paragon - 3rd Human Paragon - 1 Barbarian - 2 fighter -

1 barb / sorc
2 hep / sorc
3 hep / Hp
4 hep / hp
5 fighter / sorc
6 scout / HP
7 sorc / swift blade
8 scout / SB
9 scout / SB
10 sorc / SB
11 scout / SB
12 scout / SB

hep half elf paragon
hp human paragon
I had mentioned thi basic build with the swift blade a few times on other threads, so far nobody has responded that they have any experience with this SB class.

Well judging by your build above I would say first off make sure you have Arcan strike, its a must.
Second, if you are focusing on the melee aspect of the build I would suggest taking metamagic that still allows you to do the melee, say like Quicken obviously is good, extend magic is also good. If you are primarily a melee guy I wouldnt worry too much on the metamagic.

Sorcerer's really take it in the keaster with the metamagics. My build is built on movement and speed, and if every spell cast with metamagic = full round action means I aint moving and if I aint moving Im not receiving all this my bonuses, and I wanted to add my improved skirmish to a split scorching ray.
