| #1cycadaJun 28, 2008 0:31:37 | Well it's finally happened. The impossible has come into play....I've decided on a single build for my up and coming character swap in my friends campaign. I will be starting at 4th level, and figured I might as well redo an old favorite from a Shackled City campaign I played in. We didn't get too far, but it was fun and I became attached to the character. Comments, critique, etc would be very helpful. I've optimized this as best as I could figure out, but a little help never hurt anyone. WotC books, all 3.0 and 3.5 are allowed except for UA. Name: Vergal (Ver-gull, not Ver-jul) Race: Strongheart Halfling Final Build: Rogue 2/Swashbuckler 3/Guild Thief 5/Nightsong Enforcer 10 1st: Rogue 1: Craven, Improved Initiative(racial) 2nd: Rogue 1/ Swashbuckler 1: Weapon Finesse(bonus) 3rd: Rogue 1/ Swashbuckler 2: Martial Study: Shadow Blade Tech 4th: Rogue 1/ Swashbuckler 3: 5th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3: 6th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 1: Daring Outlaw 7th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 2: Leadership(bonus) 8th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 2/ Nightsong Enforcer 1: 9th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 2/ Nightsong Enforcer 2: Martial Stance: Assassin's Stance 10th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 2/ Nightsong Enforcer 3: 11th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 2/ Nightsong Enforcer 4: 12th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 2/ Nightsong Enforcer 5: Staggering Strike 13th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 2/ Nightsong Enforcer 6: 14th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 3/ Nightsong Enforcer 6: 15th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 4/ Nightsong Enforcer 6: Darkstalker, Weapon Focus (Rapier)(bonus) 16th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 5/ Nightsong Enforcer 6: 17th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 5/ Nightsong Enforcer 7: 18th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 5/ Nightsong Enforcer 8: Deadly Precision 19th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 5/ Nightsong Enforcer 9: 20th: Rogue 2/ Swashbuckler 3/ Guild Thief 5/ Nightsong Enforcer 10: I think I spread out the Sneak Attack progression well enough that the bonuses are consistent, making the build effective at every level, rather than lagging behind before surpassing others. My character will be using a rapier, a light shield, and light armor as their wasn't enough room for TWF feats (and I don't intend to change that at the moment) and the rapier is my character's iconic weapon. Thanks again for any help for this.... |

If you at some point decide you want to try TWF in spite of not intending to do so now, you could change Daring outlaw to Two-weapon fighting and then get Gloves of the Balanced Hand or ITWF. |
| #3cycadaJun 28, 2008 11:11:44 | Out of the Daring Outlaw feat I'm getting +2d6 SA and a +1 Dodge bonus to AC. To me, this is worth a feat since later down the road (lvl 9) I gave up a feat (two if you think about it) to get Assassin's Stance, which only gives +2d6 I'm not giving up Uncanny Dodge by not taking pure Rogue either, as Guild Thief gives me the Uncanny Dodge. If you have any suggestions (besides TWF) that you would exchange Daring Outlaw for, feel free to comment. But +3d6 damage from 2 levels of rogue isn't that bad if you ask me... The build is supposed to be kind of flanking based, which is supported by the Guild Thief's improved Leadership and the Nightsong's class features. |
| #4carnivoreJun 28, 2008 16:30:48 | why not just use the Feat Rogue variant... gain 2 additional Feats and only lose 2d6 SA... since feats are harder to get than Boosts to SA :D |
| #5cycadaJun 28, 2008 17:04:28 | While a good idea, my DM isn't allowing the UA books. :P Otherwise I probably would. I'm thinking about replacing the 12th level feat with Shadow Blade, since my DM has deemed the rapier a Shadowhand weapon. |
| #6cycadaJun 29, 2008 19:31:27 | Hehe, I'm lvl 4 on my build now, and wondering if I should follow on with it. I'm guessing that 4th is too late to start trying for an Unseen Seer build, so besides what I offered, is there any ideas floating around in all you other Oper brains? |
| #7cycadaJun 30, 2008 20:42:20 | Well, I guess if noone has any suggestions for this build, does anyone have ideas for my flanking buddy? I'll have him/her at 7th and I don't quite no where I want to go with them. Any suggestions on good synergy options? |
