I have been invited to a homebrew campaign tommorrow and we are going to be making Gestalt Characters. Now I have alot of experience with D&D, however never really delt with Gestalt Characters over all. I have already rolled my stats and they are 18 15 14 13 12 11

I am considering doing one of the following and coming up with an interesting background for any..

Now gestalt is defined by our DM as 'taking two classes and bringing the best of both to the table - not combining but the better attribute wins'..

Monk/Paladin (just an interesting concept - something akin to the fighting movies like Forbidden Kingdom or some such)

Druid/Ranger (I think would be interesting)

Sorcerer/Cleric (Going on an undead bent)

So I just wanted some opinions.. I am open to most of the details.. Or if you guys think I should do something easier? Thanks for your time!

First and Foremost...

Having that out of the way...

You should always have a class to offset the 'negatives' of the other class. For instance, your Ranger/Druid, while it would feel like the embodiment of all things natural, it is not optimized...and that's what we do.

Sorcerer should never be included in any build because, well, it sucks. Monk/Paladin is interesting but has a serious MAD issue and, no offense, but your stats aren't anything to write home about.

With your stats, I would look at something to cover all of your bases. That being said, Factotum is a SUPERB half of a gestalt for anything. Factotum/Warblade is killer as seen with the Factotum of War

If you want, here is something that will work with that stat array of yours:

Whisper Gnome Conjurer 20//Beguiler 5/Incantatrix 10/Shadowcraft Mage 5

Put your 18 into Int and everything else is gravy.

Yuck. Completely backwards. You prestige out of wizard, not beguiler.

You want to have an active class and a passive class. The active class will be the one you draw heaviest on. The passive class is there for perks and nullifying defects from the active class.

If you're going on an undead bent: Go straight Cleric, or Dread Necromancer.
With a cleric, short of choosing a completely subpar class, you can't screw this one up.

Let's explore the Dread Necromancer side:
Choose something that will offset the negatives: Bad BAB, Bad Ref/Fort, Bad HP, bad skills. To fix the biggest problems (BAB, saves, HP), the most obvious choice is Ranger (saves Skills, too; though, this is kind of an oxymoron *shrugs*) or Fighter or a fighter-like class: evil variant paladin, Hexblade, Knight, et cetera. To fix skills, BAB, and saves: Rogue, Ninja, Scout, et cetera.

It depends on what you want to play: an agent of undeath who is backed by infernal powers, or a Necromancer who is extremely tough to kill. The former would have a melee active class and a caster passive, and vice versa for the latter.

Monk/Paladin: That's mad MAD. Extreme MAD. You'll need good scores in everything except INT to manage that. You'd get by, but be subpar. I'd pass that by.

Druid/Ranger overlaps too much to be that great.

Factotum/Warblade is great. Paladin/Wilder is another good combo. Pick two things that compliment. What character concepts do you have in mind? What books are allowed? Do you have a few ideas (beyond concepts) drawn up? If you can provide these, then we can help.

dude!

evil paladin // dread necromancer

nine words: DIVINE GRACE AND SPELLCASTING RUN OFF OF SAME ABILITY

you could be like "ill touch you w/ my bad touch cuz my BAB is perfecto"

or

you could be like "im a paladin o death. and the forty million hit dice worth of rotting flesh behind me? my army o death"

disclaimer: these quotes must be said using a strong bad voice to get effect

Thank you for all the input so far, to be more clear.

The Game will be homebrew, so any and all books would be allowed. I will ultimately have to run everything by the DM but I doubt he will put up to much of a fight on most things.

Since this is my first Gestalt character, I want to stay as close to the Core classes as possible.

The general lay out of the current plot is that we are in a poor nation of city states that has just been through a terrible war that they wont at great cost. The economy is working, but poor - and most of the armies and hero's are dead.

When it comes to a background for the character, I truely am open for debate. I think I am going to have him serve in the war, but done nothing major of note.

I would like to either do a character that is based mainly off the monk and hand to hand combat.. again someone who is styled towards the older genre of japaense films..

or I would like to do a character that uses magic or inner power to take out his enemies. After thinking it through, if we could combine something with a Warlock (just because I like the over all concept) that could be fun.

To be honest, I only want the bonus feats. Beguiler is really just gravy. SCM/Incantatrix is Godly enough on its own...

Archivist/Wizard is also very good, since you know all the spells in the game and are SAD

is any one going to play an artificer?
it could help you a LOT, you can make your own magic items, and earn lots of money for the party....
Artificer/somenicebuild
you could REALLY be useful.

Artificer/Binder for Broken infinite XP and GP.

In all due seriousness, Sorcerer (with whatever PrCs you need)//Telepath/Anarchic Initiate with Schism and Arcane Fusion can Nova like it was no one's business. Schism out Temporal Acceleration, Greater Arcane Fusion for Celerity and massive amounts of death from any other spell with a Rod of Delay and Rapid Metamagic (alternatively, you could just not use the rod and kill them with Delayed Magic Missiles each time, and switch to Kelgore's Firebolt when the DM starts throwing Shielded enemies at you) and rain death down upon the enemy via Powers+Spells simultaneously (I think your second brain would get the extra standard action fro Celerity too, ask around here though).

Then again, who doesn't like pushing the Spam the Apocalypse button?

A decent core option is Wizard/Ranger. Nice Synergy all around.

If you like the archery route, be an elf and sneak in 2 levels of Arcane Archer (on the ranger side, of course).

Another strong core option: druid/monk. Natural spell is all you need. Wildshape, self-buff and go to town.
