| #1harmonicdiscordFeb 06, 2009 22:56:25 | My DM asked us to create another character if we wanted or in case of a TPK (He's getting pretty close) I'm playing a Psion and I don't think he likes that I can bring players back to life with no level loss so I thought I would come up with another idea. My next char will be: Lesser Aasimar Cleric3/Church Inquisitor4/Prestige Paladin3/Fist of Raziel 5 Stats I rolled are 17, 17, 15, 14, 12, 12 I'm taking the Cleric Smite Sub and the Charging Smite variant I'm trying to figure out what feats I should take Power Attack, Mounted Combat and Servant of the heavens leaves only 4 feats left to take (Getting a lvl 1 bonus feat) I'm also hoping for some help with equipment. I usually only play arcane spellcasters to being a semi-tank will be new and I'm not sure how to outfit him. The only thoughts I had were Belt of Battle, Mithril Full Plate of Haste (not sure this is worth it) and some + to attributes but I'm not sure which and how much. Also I was wondering what you all thought of the Ring of Arming from the MIC. All books with the Wizards logo are usable and we are playing the Savage Tides campaign. (My character knows he has to go fight demons on a different plane but I don't want to metagame the equipment or feats.) His brief background is that he was a church inquisitor for the Church of the Whirling Fury and he has eliminated many demon spies. Now he is "worthy" enough to go fight the big fight. Thanks! |

I'd do stats like: Str 15 Dex 12 Con 14 Int 12 Wis 17 Cha 17, but I bet you knew that already. Item-wise, a belt of magnificence is good since you need all stats except Int if you're wearing a non-heavy armor. If you plan on going for a a two-handed weapon, get a buckler and Improved Buckler Defense for extra AC. If you're not getting deflection and resistance items greater than +2, don't bother at all since your magic circle against evil has you covered at least that far. Get natural armor as well, somehow. |
| #3harmonicdiscordFeb 07, 2009 10:43:21 | I didn't know how to build the stats so thanks. Would a shield with an animated enchantment be better than using a feat? And isn't the Belt of Magnificence 200,000? Thats all I have to spend. ![]() |
| #4harmonicdiscordFeb 09, 2009 10:52:42 | So I was talking to a friend about this build and he said that going church inquisitor wasn't worth it unless you were going to be dispelling things. He said a better build would be. Cleric 4 / a +1 BAB Class 1 / Prestige Paladin 3 / Fist of Raziel 8 The difference I see is trading a caster level for a BAB which I think is not the best trade. Can anyone else give me some insight on these builds or maybe even a different build that I'm not seeing? |
| #5harmonicdiscordFeb 09, 2009 11:40:12 | Oh I also found out that the DM allows LA buyoff so what is a better race than Lesser Aasimar for this build? |
| #6jenosFeb 09, 2009 15:00:19 | Slapping a Phrenic Creature on Lesser Aasimar could prove useful. +2 Int, +4 Wis, +4 Cha bonuses, Power Resistance of 25 at level 15, and lots and lots of useful Psi-like abilities. Assuming psionic/magic transperency(Which is the default), having 10+HD SR will prove quite useful. Church Inquisitor is sweet and simple, I don't see the problem with it. The only reason to go into a full BAB class(Barbarian with pounce is probably your best choice there) is to get more FoR levels. Those Church Inquisitor levels net you some useful things. If you really want the FoR abilities, by all mean do the other build, and pounce is always useful. |
| #7Blade2718Feb 09, 2009 18:58:47 | So I was talking to a friend about this build and he said that going church inquisitor wasn't worth it unless you were going to be dispelling things. He said a better build would be. Your friend is dead wrong. The class gives you abilities and resistances you otherwise wouldn't have, even if you're not focused on dispelling, at virtually no loss to you. It's like wanting a box for Christmas and getting the toy inside too. Yes, it does make it harder Fist of Raziel can be dropped early for something else, like Ordained Champion, if necessary. And the previous poster suggested Barbarian, but that'll force you out of FoR. |
| #8jenosFeb 09, 2009 22:05:14 | I actually forgot about the chaotic/lawful issue there. While it is possible to go chaotic, dip a level of barb(You retain pounce regardless of alignment, and thats why you want barb), it is very hard to justify. Note that not going Church has the added benefit of frontloading your FoR abilities. That being said, I also agree with Church Inquisitor over FoR, as CI gives some very nice defensive abilities, and the last 5 levels of FoR are nice, but starting a campaign with 5 levels of FoR over 8 shouldn't be a huge issue. I'd actually go with Ordained Champion as well, unless you're going into epic levels. |
| #9harmonicdiscordFeb 10, 2009 9:20:40 | Actually in the Campaign we are playing the church that my char will be affiliated with would be The Church of the Whirling Fury which worships Gwynharwyf who is a Barbarian. So I'm sure there is a way I could swing in Barb with an alignment change. Would anyone mind writing out the class level by level for me? I'm having a hard time picturing what it would look like with Barb and what feats I should be taking. Thanks Guys |

| #11harmonicdiscordFeb 10, 2009 10:24:16 | I will definitely go the CI build but had a couple questions about the feats. Why did you include extend spell? Is it a prereq for persist? Also I have a bonus feat to use are well. Would you chose Divine Vigor? Also the other one I was looking at was improved buckler defense. |

| #13laelFeb 10, 2009 20:48:55 | Animated heavy shield would be handy as well. |
