| #1BluueggMay 17, 2013 15:28:32 | Hello everyone. I seem to have run into a bit of a wall. My gaming group is starting a new campaign this weekend and I had a character ready, but there has been a last minute addition to our player base and it would be easiest for said player to pick up that character (he is new to D&D). I have decided that I would like to make a Melee combatant that uses high mobility to deliver punishment on enemies he can find (or force) out of position. Here are some of the themes I am looking for here and the tools available : -Core Rule Books and Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting books -Would like to avoid Dual Wielding if possible, Would prefer to use a 2h weapon (am willing to compramise here) -Character is to be a young cocky upstart (race fitting this would be nice, but not necessary.) -He will be one of two melee characters in the group -Starting level 4 I would do the research myself, but i am working practically until gametime on sunday, so any help is welcome. You guys do good work here and i appreciate the help. Thank you in advance. ~bluuegg |

Well, unless you just want to throw out five-digit numbers on your attacks, that is, but that's normally considered in poor taste. The Horizon Tripper is also a solid choice. Use a greatsword. It's the best weapon in the game. Race you want is a Water Orc if you don't get ToB. Sundark Goggles from Races of the Dragon, IIRC, lets you ignore the light sensitivity for 10 GP, so there's really no downside. |

The baseline benchmark for "good" core-only melee is the aforementioned Horizon Tripper. And don't worry about using two-handers: they're what any melee character wants anyway. Most of the time that's a greatsword unless you're specifically looking for a property the greatsword doesn't possess, such as reach. Interestingly, the Horizon Tripper "Uses high mobility to deliver punishment on enemies he can find (or force) out of position.". And if you've got the FR books (plural), you have access to Jotenbrud, from Races of Faerun, which is almost as good as Powerful Build if you're focusing on tripping. It's Human-only, and reflects a distant giant heritage; this is consistent with "young cocky upstart". You might find some good melee ideas to try to emulate in my sig as well; there's a lot of melee there. However, there's also a lot of Tome of Battle, because the two really don't exist without each other. |

If i had to fight for a specific section of the book what is the main things I'd would want him to allow if i cant get the whole book included? (Races, Classes, Feats, ect...) |
