In this new campaign my DM said that all the pcs are able to pick 1 template and he will allow the level adjustment and requirments to be waved. Do you guys have any good ideas for a template, I was thinking Monster Of Legend.

I think theres a way you can use lycanthopic template and/or the tauric template to actually add an unlimited number of templates for free on the other half of the creature your trying to mesh with the original. I think this line of thought is where I got the idea of a were-human human.

Hey, if the requirements are also waived, can anyone think of any templates that would be particularly useful to add to the wrong type?

Paragon once again ftw. But ones your DM reads it you're likely to get smacked with the DMG. Saint is an awesome template that would likely get through, but once again if he allows it Paragon. Have fun winning.

Paragon
If you can have it for free?Looi what it gives you.
From the srd

Paragon Creature
Creating A Paragon Creature
“Paragon” is a template that can be added to any creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

The base creature’s type remains unchanged. The paragon creature uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here.

HD
A paragon creature always has maximum hit points. Paragon creatures also gain an additional 12 hit points per HD.

Speed
A paragon creature’s speed triples, for all movement types.

AC
Paragon creatures gain a +12 insight bonus to AC and a +12 luck bonus to AC. They also gain a +5 natural armor bonus (if the creature already has natural armor, use whichever is better).

Attacks
A paragon creature makes all its attacks with a +25 luck bonus on the attack roll.

Damage
A paragon creature gains a +20 luck bonus on damage rolls for all melee and thrown ranged attacks.

Special Attacks
A paragon creature’s special attacks, if any, all gain a +13 insight bonus, if applicable. The +13 insight bonus may only be applied to a given special ability once.

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp) or Psionics (Sp)
If the base creature has spell-like abilities, it gains +15 to its caster level to use those abilities. A paragon creature also gains the ability to use greater dispel magic, haste, and see invisibility three times per day, even if it did not have spell-like abilities before, at 15th caster level.

Special Qualities
A paragon creature retains all the special qualities of the base creature and also gains the following.

Fire and cold resistance 10. If the creature already possesses such resistance, use whichever is better.
Damage reduction 10/epic. If the creature already possesses damage reduction, use whichever is better.
Spell resistance equal to the paragon creature’s CR +25. If the creature already possesses spell resistance, use whichever is higher.
Fast healing 20. If the creature already possesses fast healing, use whichever is better.
A paragon creature’s natural weapons are treated as epic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Saves
The paragon creature gains a +10 insight bonus on all its saving throws.

Abilities
All ability scores are 15 points higher than those of the base creature.

Skills
The paragon creature gains a +10 competence bonus on all its skill checks.

Feats
Same as the base creature, plus one bonus feat.

Climate/Terrain
Any land and underground.

Organization
Same as the base creature.

Challenge Rating
As base creature +15.

Treasure
Standard for a creature of the adjusted CR.

Alignment
Same as the base creature.

Advancement
Same as the base creature.

The very same. Normally it would require animal or magical beast type, but as that has been handwaved I can see this going into a nice direction. :D

With the right type of construct you could technically play a mecha without having to worry about a pilot.

So, I know it doesn't matter, as the template is free...
but does the ELH ever give an LA for Paragon creatures?

Because I had a discussion on it in a recent game...

Just because the level adjustment is being waived doesn't mean that LA -- stops meaning "not suitable for PCs".

What's got the biggest listed LA?

The answer is sort of.While the template does not give an la ELH does give ECL for the Epic Monsters it contains.
Including the Paragon mindflayer.
So you could find the paragon's la by sybtracting the regular's mindflayer ecl from the paragon's mindflayer ecl.
The paragon mindflayer ecl is 26 the regular mindflayer ecl is 15 so one could say that the la of the paragon template is 11.
Of course someone could say that the la is 15 because the regular mindflayer was ecl 11 in 3.0 edition and elh is 3.0.
So by the official rules is either 11 or 15 it depends on your interpretation.

The biggest ECL bump comes likely from lycanthropy (werebattletitan?), symbiotic (lots of possibilities here), or tauric (with some epic monster). All of these templates give you a way to calculate the ECL of the tamplate, even if you use it to basically get all the abilities of a monster that doesn't even have a listed LA, which would be a lot higher than that you'll get from the template anyway.

EDIT: Oh, wait, only the LA is ignored, not the bonus HD. Damn.

Without being nearly as game-breaking as Epic templates? Arachnoid Creature from Underdark. Technically, that lets you qualify for MWF, Multi-tasking, etc.

Vampire would be fun without the LA, also. Get some Liquid Night from Libris Mortis and stay slathered in it during the daytime.

If you get the Phylactery as part of the template, Lich or Dry Lich is a good option - while it's only a +4 LA, it's a 240k gp market price item that comes with it.

Come on, man! Kaiju means you could actually BE a CoDzilla!

Or you could just use the titanic template, which is what I was going to suggest anyway when I first read the question.

Screw paragon, I'd totally play a titanic halfling.

Assuming that both of those would get shot down, half-clay golem is very, very good. Immune to magic, slashing and piercing, DR 10/silver, free haste and rage that stacks with rage, +7 NA... and did I say immunity to magic? Also, the damage you inflict can't be healed, and since prereqs are being waived, you also get 6 bonus limbs to do stuff with. With +8 to strength along with another +4 strength from rage... they're very very good.

I've played a half-clay golem troll before, and it was nearly unkillable.

Yep.
Tauric, the upper-half, can stack as many templates as possible, and only get the LA of +1 for it.
The lower-half gets just the one creature.
I don't think it ever got worked out, because the board was still stuck in the mindset
of the rules ALWAYS having to be raw and rai at the same time.
Then K/FT's Wish and Word came along.
Later Mr.Roboto.

Symbiotic ain't bad, iirc Senevri did a thread.
Sticking the HIVE on it with an LA +1 is rather crazy, but no more broken than the HIVE already is.

Hmm, what about the demi lich template. Since all the requirements are removed, no need to be a lich or a level 21st caster before hand. Nothing like a floating skull that cannot be killed.
