Sep 09, 2008 11:05:10 What are some ways (preferably though items but not exclusively) to get around/become immune to frightful pressence, and i'm mainly thinking about dragons here incase it makes a difference.

There's probably almost hundreds of ways to get immune to fear, polymorph into stuff immune to fear, take classes making you immune to fear, races, templates or PrCs like Dragonrider or Dragonslayer. Could you be more specific?

edit: And yes, a contingency Remove Fear _would_ work.

Sep 09, 2008 12:03:07 well i was hoping for the effect to come from either an item or a spell because i am looking to make the whole party immune to dragon's frightful pressence. And to make everyone take classes/races or such would not work for us. I hope this helps.

Sep 10, 2008 0:50:17 Well, use the loot from the first dragon to buy more scrolls. Really, its a small opportunity cost that more than pays off. If you want to get really cost effective, you could probably buy a Staff of Hero's Feast and get 50 chargest of it, each 1/2 the price of a scroll. That'd be a huge initial investment, but everything afterwards would be sheer profit.

Alternatively, the ritual to become Necropolitan (LM) isn't too terribly expensive for about a 6-7th level character. All undead are immune to fear by virtue of their type. May not be exactly what you are lookin for, but meh, you give little, you get little.

Sep 10, 2008 11:36:08 Three levels of Paladin or 1 level of Dragonslayer (Draconomicon p 127) gets you Aura of Courage which makes you immune to fear and gives all allies within 10ft a +4 bonus.

5 Levels of Dreadwitch (Heroes of Horror p98) can have you turn that Dragon's fear back at him/her/it, and would work even if the Dragon's normally immune.

The spell AntiDragon Aura (level 3Spell Compendium p14), is expensive (at 25gp a pop), but if you're fighting a lot of dragons, it's going to give your party a significant boost vs dragons (it's a variable boost to AC and all Saves vs dragons).

Likewise Lionheart (level 1 Pally spell, Spell Compendium p132) can give an individual immunity to fear/fear effects. Get it in a Wand rather than scrolls and/or potions to save money if you don't have a pally in the party.

But you said you wanted Items...

Shroud of Scales (Magic Item Compendium p136) gives DR and Makes you immune to dragon's frightful presence. It's expensive, and it's a robe, so your fighters can't wear it, though.

Third Eye Conceal (Magic Item Compendium p141) makes you immune to all mind affecting effects. But at like 120k, I don't think you'll be running around with 5 of them.

I think there's also a relic cloak from Draconomicon that does the same thing, if you worship Tiamat.

All in all, I'd buy wands of Lionheart and call it a day. Just make sure you have a pally or good UMD person in the group. At least until you've got the CL's for Mindblank.

Sep 10, 2008 11:43:21 a cleric with the protection domain can give +his lvl to one save (will) for one hour. certain cleric spells provide a morale bonus (or otherwise) to resist fear effects. Once resisted, a person is unaffected by a dragon's draconic presence for a period of 24 hours, so as long as one person (preferrably a cleric with "remove fear" prepared) resists the spell, your party should be safe.

I'm going with "increase your will save" as my answer.
