| #1necrosnoop110Mar 31, 2010 20:50:42 | Getting back into 3.5E after a long 4E layover. Any you old dogs and dogettes still around then I'll say good on ya. Starting Level: 5th Starting Abilities: 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8 Starting Gold: 7500gp Books: Core + anything reasonable Notes: No "monster" races, No evil Any good builds for full Psion manifesting coupled with some minor Druid or Cleric action? I love Carnivore's basic Egoist Build but was looking to add in some divine casting of some sort, preferably without loosing any manifestor levels. Thanks, Necro |
| #2Maat_MonsMar 31, 2010 21:08:54 | There's the psychic theurge, but even with early entry shenanigans, you still lose a level of manifesting. Archivist (Heroes of Horror) would be a better source of divine casting, since it has int synergy. Ur priest (Complete Divine) would also be good, due to the compressed progression. |

| #5necrosnoop110Apr 01, 2010 19:45:28 | Welcome back necrosnoop110 .... good to see you ... try this: 1) Good to see you Carni I thought you bailed alltogether? Good to see you back. ![]() 2) Love the build. 3) Would it work with Psion 2/ Cloistered Cleric 1/ Psychic Theurge 2 4) I don't get the Substitute powers thingy. 5) Any recommended mantles? 6) DM wants me to justify the Ardents strong anti-religous stance with the Cloistered Cleric combo, any suggestions? Cheers, Necro |
| #6phaedrusxyApr 01, 2010 23:42:40 | Are Ardents anti-religious? I don't remember that... And no, it won't work with Psion. The point of the ardent is that he actually gains higher level powers from boosting his manifester level (like with Practiced Manifester). |
| #7SenevriApr 02, 2010 5:21:44 | Ardents are dedicated to philosophies. They can fully support any deity that has domains related to their mantles. There's nothing anti-DnD-religious in their fluff. There may be some anti-stupidity in them, but not worshipping a deity is really stupid in some settings. Substitute Powers is pick-your-favorite-powers substitution, if left to the player completely. |
| #8necrosnoop110Apr 02, 2010 12:15:47 | 1) Thanks all. 2) "Ardents, as a rule, avoid religion." Complete Psionic, Pg 8, PLAYING AN ARDENT, Religion Cheers, Necro |
| #9phaedrusxyApr 02, 2010 12:30:06 | Wow... I'm amazed that a DM would give you a hard time about that... You could worship one of the psionic gods. I remember one from the Mind's Eye (Saridor, IIRC). I can't see how that wouldn't fit, fluffwise... Also... you don't have to even be part of a religion to be a cleric (unless you're in the FR). You can worship an "ideal"... which sounds nearly identical to a "philosophy" to me. |
| #10necrosnoop110Apr 02, 2010 12:55:22 | Wow... I'm amazed that a DM would give you a hard time about that... 1) Not so much a "justify or you can't use this character build" more like "please everyone have a strong rational being your character and all actions should be justified roleplaying wise." And as having never read the Ardent before I just saw a possible roleplaying conflict with that general anti-relion deal. 2) Forgot about how Clerics can worship "ideals" that seems the best fit. Thanks, Necro |
| #11carnivoreApr 05, 2010 14:45:22 | for this build: Ardent 2/ Cloistered Cleric 1/ Psychic Theurge 2 the Order is: Cloistered Cleric 1 Ardent 1 Ardent 2 Psychic theurge 1 Psychic Theurge 2 this way there is no Conflict ..... especially if your Ideal and Philosophy match... just explore both sides of the same coin ![]() |
