| #1Midnight_vMar 22, 2008 10:15:35 | While working on the Consolidated Barbarian Handbook I discovered this combo. Imperious Command + Intimidating rage + Instantaneous rage Essentially since you can use the instant rage "even when you're suprised or flat-footed" it triggers the intimidating rage. Which triggers Imperious command making someone cower, and lost their turn. Even if they've won initative, or you're flatfooted. You could combine this with the skill trick "Never Outnumbered" and some charge feats to cower an entire party theoretically. Is this on the level of Greater Celerity? I believe it's close if I'm reading it right. Discuss. |
| #2CantripNMar 22, 2008 10:27:49 | Interesting. With Ferocity, you don't even need Instantaneous Rage. The range worries me, but it might prove VERY good at times. Tack on Mad Foam Rager and Frenzied Berserker for actually making sure they can't win on round 1. |
| #3Midnight_vMar 22, 2008 10:40:44 | The range on intimidating rage is 30ft, which now that you mention it is kinda short... I didn't mention ferocity, cause I dont' want anyone to open up the thread arguing about whether or not it counts as rage... ![]() I've never used MFR myself but I've heard some people swear by it, and well FB is FB as aways but theorectically you get two uses of the ability then. Cower them once when you rage and once when you frenzy. My problem with it is that imperious command has a pre-req of 15 charisma. What is a barbarian doing with a 15 charisma. I'd try some builds but I'm busy with the hand book. |
| #4tshernMar 22, 2008 12:10:36 | Good trick, no question about that, qualifying for Imperious command is easy with a +6 item at later levels, but before that you might find the prerequisites crippling. Not on par with Greater Celerity, however. |
| #5davethemagicweaselMar 22, 2008 13:13:48 | What is a barbarian doing with a 15 charisma. Maximizing his Intimidate check obviously :P Or, take the Draconic template, which is good for a barbarian anyway, and then the 15 Cha is easy to get. |
| #6WyvernhandMar 22, 2008 13:32:31 | Or he's an halforc paladin/paragon with racial subs maxing out cha for the synergy and gaining a no alignment req rage that way. Just a thougt... |
| #722_Over_7Mar 22, 2008 13:40:44 | Just when you're ready to write off the CO boards until 4th edition... Good work, Midnight_v! |
| #8Midnight_vMar 22, 2008 15:37:38 | Good trick, no question about that, qualifying for Imperious command is easy with a +6 item at later levels, but before that you might find the prerequisites crippling. Not on par with Greater Celerity, however. I don't know, its about as close as anyones gonna get methinks. The reason that I suggest it may be a celerity is that it actually "TRUMPS" celerity in some instances because you can do it flatfooted. You: Charge (waiting to rage until you're close enough to use your rage to use Never Outnumbered) Wizard: See's you begin your charge casts g.celerity. You: Rage (ahead of schedule) and cut off his action making him cower. This may or may not stop you from finishing your charge. I dare not speculate, as I'm clearly biased and happy with this discovery. What do you say. Just when you're ready to write off the CO boards until 4th edition... :embarrass Thats awful kind of you to say. Thank you my friend. M. |
| #9tshernMar 22, 2008 15:49:42 | Then again if he is high enough a level to cast Greater Celerity, he might just as well have Mindblank on... |
| #10littlefreak_dupMar 22, 2008 16:09:35 | where is Imperious Command? |
| #11tshernMar 22, 2008 16:12:07 | Drow of the Underdark. |
| #12littlefreak_dupMar 22, 2008 16:14:44 | Tnx, how is the Fighter vs. Cleric duel goin on by the way? |
| #13tshernMar 22, 2008 16:17:00 | As depicted in the thread. No reason to derail this thread for discussing it. |
| #14altpersonaMar 22, 2008 16:17:41 | how about the go first turtle? does it care about your rage? does it "goes first" , can it loose that first action? |
| #15Midnight_vMar 22, 2008 17:25:13 | The "go first turtle?" what? Is that the thing from sandstorm or stormrack or whatever? how about the go first turtle? |
| #16Midnight_vMar 22, 2008 17:31:00 | Then again if he is high enough a level to cast Greater Celerity, he might just as well have Mindblank on... D'oh! All this time I've been thinking of "Celerity" not G.Celerity lol. So yeah Tshern you're correct it's not on par with G.Celerity, it is on par with standard action celerity though I think. |
| #17Dictum_MortuumMar 22, 2008 17:46:16 | VERY nice for my champion of Gwynharwyf build. |
| #18altpersonaMar 22, 2008 17:53:23 | The "go first turtle?" what? dont recall its proper name, i do think its from one of those, yes.. |
| #19Dictum_MortuumMar 22, 2008 18:02:10 | dire tortoise? something like that |
| #20jameswilliamogleMar 22, 2008 18:13:43 | This sounds awesome for my alpha-strike Dragon Shaman / Barbarian builds... Human Barbarian (Lion Totem) 1 / Dragon Shaman 19 1,h, f, f Extra Rage, Instantaneous Rage, Power Attack, Imp Bull Rush 3 Intimidating Rage 6 Imperious Command 9 Shocktrooper 12 Double Draconic Aura 15 Quicken Breath 18 Leap Attack round 0: if caught flat-footed, rage when opponents are w/in 30' round 1: Charge, Raging just before you hit (Leap Attack+PA+Headless Charge), breath right after (should be +45 damage per hit, plus intimidationg, plus 7d6 breath weapon or so) |
| #21Midnight_vMar 22, 2008 19:17:34 | This sounds awesome for my alpha-strike Dragon Shaman / Barbarian builds... I'm going to add that build as an example of a pseudo-build in the Handbook. |
| #22jameswilliamogleMar 24, 2008 9:48:38 | For the sake of discussion, since its pertinent, what are the relavent rules texts for Imperious Command (inc. prereqs)? This seems to mix really well with Horizon Walker 6's DD ability... DD to enemy then Rage to fear the enemy. I can envision a semi-iconic full-bab multi-threat build here... Ranger (Trapfinding variant) 3 / Barbarian (Lion Totem, Trapsmashing) 3 / Fighter 2 / Horizon Walker 6 / Bear Warrior 6 3 main combos: Power Attack, Imp Bull Rush, Shocktrooper, Leap Attack, Imp Sunder, Combat Brute Endurance (b), Steadfast Determination Extra Rage, Instantaneous Rage, Intimidating Rage, Imperious Command (w/ Dimension Door 1/d4) Hrm... needs 1 more feat slot.... |
| #23fingers_boggisMar 24, 2008 20:44:22 | Why bear warrior 6? My thought when I read your build was go to fighter 6 with dungeon crasher for extra damage and trap ability and then for the remaining 2 dwarf and deepwarden for extra AC. Cheeky use of dragon magazine gives you power attack at ranger 2 using the strong arm combat style variant. Does that gain you your feat slot? I know its dragon but it doesn't seem a ridiculous option, certainly more thematic than ranged or TWF here. Fingers |
| #24fingers_boggisMar 24, 2008 20:47:44 | In addition.... There's a DMM:Persist for rage thread been started up now as well, is there a way to combine this with that. Seems fairly good to be able to persist taking everyone else out of the combat especially if you could do it whilst dungeon crashing your way between them.So many threads have popped up over the last few days which have made me really want to play a debuffing barbarian (who also deals with all the traps the party might come across as well). Seems like a pretty awesome team playing tank to me Fingers |
| #25solariaMar 25, 2008 10:55:23 | My problem with it is that imperious command has a pre-req of 15 charisma. Magic item? If you have an item that raises your stat, it qualifies you for prerequisites. You just can't use the feat if you lose the item later. |
