Gearing up a psion-type...

Jan 01, 2009 12:29:11 Ok, so here's the build : Elan Paragon 5 (the one Jaerom Darkwind posted here under reworked racial paragons, basically a psion with elan extras)/Anarchic Initiate 10/Psionic Abjurant Champion 5, with epic progression going into Psionic Swiftblade. Standard 770k lvl 20 wealth, half dragon template, and using both the spell-to-power variant as a retired magister ; aka, all spells/powers spontaneously and based upon Int (which happens to be 50 after racial/templates/leveling/inherent/magister boost). The main thing I'm looking for (and failing to find) is crap to boost ML. All cheesy consumptive fields aside, any thoughts?

I'd still rather be a dragonborn, and use your LA buyoff for something that's actually worth a crap...

I'm all ears, though the half-dragon part is iconic to the character. I'd thought about a custom bloodline, and PAO into a half-dragon (if that's possible...which I would think it is).

Jan 01, 2009 17:19:19 The thing is... for two feats (Dragon Wings + Improved Dragon Wings, and take the breath weapon), you can be a hell of alot better "half-dragon" as a dragonborn than a real half-dragon is. You lose the stat bumps, but as a caster, who cares? The biggest one is to Strength, and they aren't worth a LA +3.

Then add other templates. Just be careful as you lose alot of racial boons when you become a dragonborn. So templates you can add later will be better. I'd also suggest the feat Entangling Exhalation, as it is awesome.

Indeed it is, though all template play aside, the main thing I'm looking for is schwag, particularly to bump ML. A couple spells are already shoe-ins (and will become prevalent come level 21 and a mythal), but gear is another matter, as there seems to be relatively few items that boost ML, while a myriad to boost CL. Short of a homebrewed substitution, anything I've missed?

Also, PhaedrusXY made me snort and lol.

Edit: Optimized characters who hit their stride at higher levels makes me sad.

Psionic Practised Spellcaster... er, Manifester. You seem to be doing a Psionic version of everything else, so why not?

Also, PhaedrusXY made me snort and lol.

Edit: Optimized characters who hit their stride at higher levels makes me sad.

That will apply once I take Psionic Swiftblade at epic levels. And hardly does he only hit his stride at high levels...bear in mind, this is a full manifester build with BAB +16 (fractional accounting). Though with that in mind, a psionic karma bead would be sexy...

Overchannel jumps to mind obviously. Once you hit epic (1 level) you gain access to the Improved Overchannel feat from Complete Psionic which lets you overchannel up to double your ML.

Overchannel was required for Anarchic Initiate actually :D Also, Improved Overchannel is the 2nd epic feat taken in the level 50 build you will see shortly on DF.
