Gestalt Bard

Apr 27, 2008 21:57:57 My GF is joining our game group and has little rules knowledge, although she has some generic DnD knowledge from playing DDO.
She loves the Bards in MMOs, and we're playing Gestalt.
I'm looking for a simple build that allows her to be the support-style character she enjoys from MMOs while being versatile enough to have something to do every combat round.

Right now I'm looking at (12th level FR campaign, anything 3.5 -- but remember, SIMPLE, she's new to rulebooks)
2Rog/10Brd // 2Pal/10Sor
2Rog/10Brd // 2Pal/10War

Essentially either an Archer/Nuker or a Melee/Buffer

Without crazy PrC combos (in fact, no PrCs or 1 PrC only would be preferred), anyone have any other suggestions?

Apr 28, 2008 11:58:26 Something to do every combat means you should take a Tome of Battle class, and Crusader is the natural option since it is the most support-oriented class in the group. As long as you're going to be half melee and largely charisma-focused, the standard two-level dip into Paladin is largely mandatory. For your Bard side, being a full caster means you don't want any levels that don't advance spellcasting. Bard specifically enjoys a major boost from Sublime Chord.

So what all of this leads you to is...
What archerpwr already suggested. :D

So take that build, it's really solid.

Advance SC casting and bardic music. Pretty standard stuff.

Why brd9/vir1/sc2 instead of brd10/sc2 ? Brd10 grants me a 3rd level, two 4th level, as well as a higher CL.

To clarify, taking virtuoso levels >>> Taking more SC levels once you have a level or two of SC.

if you want melee buffer, go with favored soul // bard
there is also paladin // bard

im sticking w/ straight class builds cuz u said simple would help.

That sounds like the worst idea ever.

Instead of optimizing for real power, you're going for two separate ways of dealing damage?

You want Damage + Battlefield control or Damage + debuff. Not damage + more damage you can't use at the same time.
