| #1ozgunNov 23, 2008 8:43:32 | I got bored, so I created a 20 monk/20 fighter gestalt build with 36 point buy. I went through feats, magic items and stuff, but it still looks like I'm missing something for damage. Can someone help me please? http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=93207 PS: Any other comments on improving the build is welcome, including comments on magic items and what to buy with the remaining 100k. PPS: Don't suggest "get a caster class", I don't like casters ![]() All sources are accepted. (for 3.5) |

Second, you can likely do more damage with your hands than with a weapon. Improved Natural Attack instead of oversized weapon, and use one of the many methods for making unarmed attacks magical weapons. (Since you seem to like TWF, I suggest Bracers of Striking from Magic of Faerun) Those "burst" enchantments are overrated, esp. since you'll be facing monsters with multiple resistances. Third, I wouldn't go the full Monk 20, unless there's a limit of pure classes for gestalt. I prefer Monk 6/Shou Disciple 5(Unapproachable East)/Other monk improvements 9. (As a side benefit, Shou Disciple lets you flurry with those Axes, if you must have them) You lose some monk stuff, but the only one that hurts is improved evasion. The Epic Mantle for spell resistance 40 is cheap at 290k gold, so that's not an issue. All this assumes you're completely against casters and psionics of any kind, otherwise I'd work that in there. Also, you don't need all the Improved Overrun, Sunder (I personally hate sunder, you're destroying the parties future magic items.), and Bull rush. You could take something like Shock Trooper, and find a way to get pounce from an item/friendly caster. (Druid has the spell) Really, you have a long way to go to make something competitive at level 20. P.S. You went Jump, Climb, and Swim when you have Spot/Listen/Hide/Move Silently as class skills? Ow....you even have flight at will, why? |
| #3ozgunNov 23, 2008 11:57:51 | I don't know which book you get Shock Trooper from, not Shou Disciple, so can't comment. Also, the speed bonus of Monk looked useful to me, isn't it useful? And I know I need a long way to go ![]() Would you mind typing a level by level thingy (that tells what to get for each level) for me, that specializes in many-attacking? (I'd rather get 10 attacks at 5 damage each than 5 attacks with 10 damage each) (I assumed this is best done with TWF, am I wrong again?) Also, is there a feat that lets me flurry with axes? |
| #4thomas_covenantNov 23, 2008 12:14:56 | Shou Disciple (Unapproachable East) is a five level prestige class that continues the Monk flurry progression. Monk6/Shou5 give the full flurry, and Shou5 lets you flurry with any melee weapon. I'm fairly confident no feat allows flurry like this, but I could be wrong. Add a Monk's Tattoo (Magic of Faerun) and a Monk's Belt (DMG) and you do damage as a 20th level Monk, so the last nine levels are up to you. There's a monk guide somewhere in the stickies that should have some good choices, but it depends on your focus. If damage is your thing, go Monk 6/Shou Disciple 5/Initiate of the Draconic Mysteries 9 (in that order) Initiate is in the Draconomicon. This even gives your unarmed attack X3 damage on crits, and makes them slashing or bludgeoning, handy against the damage reduction you'll be facing at level 20+. Shock Trooper is in Complete Warrior, which I highly suggest reading thoroughly if you have the feats from Fighter 20. |
| #5ozgunNov 23, 2008 12:19:49 | Is it possible to get vorpal unarmed strikes? Also, I don't have UNA ![]() |
| #6thomas_covenantNov 23, 2008 12:30:25 | Is it possible to get vorpal unarmed strikes? Sure, either spend two epic feats (ugh) or attach vorpal to either the necklace of natural attacks (Savage Species) or bracers of striking (Magic of Faerun) Also, I don't have UNA Then you may be stuck with Monk 12/Initiate 8, you want those two free attacks from flurry. As an aside, it might be wise to ask your DM if he interprets Perfect TWF to apply to flurry attacks as well, otherwise its a waste of an epic feat. |
| #7ozgunNov 23, 2008 12:32:03 | I'm not building this for a particular DM, just building/learning to sharpen skills ![]() |
| #8KruskNov 23, 2008 13:48:00 | Have you considered looking at the Book of Nine Swords? It gives a lot of monk/fighter flavor at about 3 steps up in power. An unarmed variant swordsage/warblade is almost the same exact thing, but stronger. If you don't want to use it for classes, consider it for some of its unarmed feats that it offers to anyone. I am a fan of superior unarmed strike (Debatable if it stacks with monks belt) and snap kick. |
