Gestalt Campaign - Dread Necro//??

Hello, CO boards.
My DM is preparing a new campaign set in a "Predator" type setting, unfortunately I do not think he plans to use the Yautja race, but his own creation; because of this, I have no idea what I'm up against.
Also to my disadvantage is that I will know nothing of the other players' characters until the game begins. (Due to all of us being pulled through some planar portal or somesort.)

We rolled for ECL's (possible 10-12), thankfully I didn't get a 10, but an 11.
Estimated PC wealth is 66k, but I'm fairly certain I can fudge this up to the 12's 88k.
My current thought is to go Dread Necromancer 11 but I have no idea for the other side. I'm willing to sacrifice a level or two of DN but I'd prefer it to be the base.

Also, I plan to take Leadership, and have my cohort take Leadership, if I'm able.

Besides all of that, I'm not really sure where I'm going with it, and nothing is set in stone. Any suggestions? ;)

Edit:
Nearly all 3.5 material is allowed. Most homebrew is subject to review and likely to be accepted as long as it's not uber over powered.
One more thing. I am willing to use a race with a LA of +3 at most, though I'd prefer +1 or +0 (obviously).

Dread Necro 8/Walker in the Wastes 3// C-Evil Paladin 2/Fighter 2/Lion Barb 1/Sweet Prestiges from now on.

I assume you went dread necro for an army of undead. If so, now you can fight alongside them with full BAB and good HP. Plus Paladin, synergizes well with leadership.

I really like this build, but how am I to qualify for WitW? It requires the ability to cast 3 divine spells from the Thirst or the Sand domain. Unless my Advanced Learning keeps the spells divine; I assumed they became arcane?

Edit:
Also, what prestiges should I be looking for? I need to know something like that before I can begin to deal with feats or skills or anything of the like.

You get around it because I always forget that class is divine only when I recommend it to people. Ask you DM for an exception?

If not, I would go something like

Dread Necro 11//Evil Paladin 4/ Bone Knight 7 (note you can still smite good)

Bone knight is from 5 nations of eberon. It's basically a knight who makes armor out of bones and has a skeletal paladins mount.

Once you finish bone knight check out DMG blackgaurd. Some DMs find it cheesy to do evil paladin and BG, some don't ask yours because it totally fits thematically.

My DM says it won't be a problem to get past the divine spell requirement.
Should I stick with the 2/2/1/xPrC? Or do the 4/7?

Sweet deal

Dread Necro 8/Walker 10/DN 2// Paladin 4/Bone Knight 10/Fighter 2/Barb 1/Paladin 3(Blackguard?)

The last 2 levels of the necromancer side, and 3 of the paladin side are basically filler and should be swapped for whatever prestige class you feel like. If you can't find any stick with them. Again I point out blackguard if you get the option.

I think in the end bone knight is cooler, so I would try for that up front and then snag the fighter and barbarian levels at the end as "Buff my power level" filler.

With this build you should be able to wade into melee alongside an army of undead very well.

Dread Necro 8/Walker 10/DN 2// Paladin 4/Bone Knight 10/Fighter 2/Barb 1/Paladin 3(Blackguard?)

Before going too far with that idea, you'll want to ask the DM if he's willing to ignore this:

A gestalt character can’t combine two prestige classes at any level, although it’s okay to combine a prestige class and a regular class.

Why not take a level of dread necromancer opposite walker in the waste for the levels that don't progress casting?

Most homebrew is subject to review and likely to be accepted as long as it's not uber over powered.

Tome of Horrors III has a feat called death's blessing that gives an undead bonus hit points equal to its charisma bonus time its hit dice. You could start as a necropolitan with that feat instead of waiting for level 18.

Thanks for catching this, Maat. We are abiding by that rule, so Bone Knight is out. (Kinda considering it anyways since it's medium and heavy armor only.)

Ingenious -- as long as it stacks... Wouldn't it be another first level of DN or am I being stupid?

Will check into it.

It would be another 1st level dread necro.

To be honest, gestalt is interpreted a ton of different ways, and full of house rules. I have never heard of anyone following the "One prestige at a time" but thats pretty annoying.

A strict reading would say that a

Fighter 1/bard 19//Cleric 20 will end up with a full BAB.

Level 1- Take the better BAB increase. Obviously the fighters.

Level 2- Take the better BAB increase. Bard gets +0, but cleric gets +1 cleric it is. +2 BAB.

Level 3- Take the better. Bard has +1, as does cleric. +3 BAB.

Level 5- Bard is giving +1, cleric +0. Take bard. +5 BAB.

I was sort of assuming something like that would line up for bone knight.

Your group may be playing it totally different though.

It would be another 1st level dread necro.

I've never heard of an interpretation that would yield that result.

I spoke to my DM and he said he feels the level would stack simply because he's not retraining to be a necromancer all over again, regardless of seperate progression.

So a wizard 5/Master specialist 2//Fighter 5 wizard 2 is going to be casting at what level?

My ruling has him casting at 7th level, yours puts him at 9th. Even worse would be...

Wizard 3/ M specailist 10/Other full casting prestige 7//Fighter 3/Wizard 17, who then casts as a level 37 wizard.

Again, if you the lions DM said it was cool, go him.

Class features that two classes share (such as uncanny dodge) accrue at the rate of the faster class.

I would say advancing wizard casting by one level is the same class feature. So, with wizard // master specialist, you'd just get full casting progression, since you pick the better progression at each level (though they're always the same).

Features that two classes share. Not the same class feature from the same class.

Up until now I hadn't heard of anyone doing it the way you suggest, but again thats why you need a lot of GM involvement when building a character for gestalt games.

Okay, so.
A few new things.

  • My DM has allowed me two "Undead Servants" (cohorts basically) at ECL 7 and 9 without taking the Leadership feats. The only drawback is that I don't get my familiar, which is 100% okay with gaining two new characters.

  • I'm trying to churn out that second level progression and I just don't know what to do. This all I've got. I like the idea of Barb, Pally, and Ftr, but I really want to get full utility of this character.

  1. Dread Necromancer//

  2. Dread Necromancer//

  3. Dread Necromancer//

  4. Dread Necromancer//

  5. Dread Necromancer//

  6. Dread Necromancer//

  7. Dread Necromancer//

  8. Dread Necromancer//

  9. Walker In the Waste// Dread Necromancer

  10. Walker In the Waste//

  11. Walker In the Waste//

Thank you guys for all the help. (:

Fighter 2/Chaos Pally 2/X 4/DN 1/X 2

For X, I would look to prestige classes. I would also shy away from barbarian because you can't rage and cast, although...

Barb 1/Fighter 2/Chaos Pally 2/ Rage Mage 3/DN 1/RM 2 might be worth it.

May i suggest a duskblade on the other side? If you have the feats for it, a duskblade tripper with a spiked chain would be nice, especially when you get the Harm spell from Dread Necro.

Trip and hit someone with a spiked chain while channeling a harm spell into someone? Nasty stuff.

I really like the idea of using Duskblade, my concern there is having too many abilities that I need max'd.
