| #1golem1972Jul 31, 2008 9:58:07 | I'm having a little trouble with the first 6 levels in my gestalt build. Any help would be appreciated. Books: all WotC except ToB, ToM, Forgotten Realms, dragon compilation. 38 point buy, LA buyoff allowed. Basically I'm looking at a Feral, Half-Ogre human (+3 LA) Barbarian 20 // Ranger 2 / Fighter 2 / XXXX 2 / Frenzied Berserker 4 / War Hulk 10 S: 16 + 8 D: 14 - 4 C: 14 + 4 I: 16 - 6 w: 14 + 2 Ch: 8 - 2 I'm not sure what to put into the xxxx 2, I thought paladin, but with a Ch of 6, the Pal 2 ability is kinda useless (though Pal 3 would be nice for the fear immunity). |

Cloistered Cleric 1/Psychic Warrior 2/Fighter 2/Ordained Champion 1 With these domains Knowledge (free domain and skill points and no downsides due to other side of gestalt) Travel Devotion(for the extra movement as a swift action) War Domain Ordained Champion Domain Wrath (for the spell rhino rush I think that is the name of it) Switch out Knowledge ability for a bonus feat with Ordained Champion |

Mix with Knockback from Races of Stone and you're all set. this is also very good, and is the superior option long term, the only downside of this is that it takes away feats (you only get 2 feats out of 6 levels instead of 4 for the normal fighter 6, and even more with an inventive multiclass). |
| #5golem1972Jul 31, 2008 12:10:48 | Thanks for the quick replies. Fighter 6 is actually a pretty good idea. It's more feats, and dungeon crasher fits thematically. I was looking into ranger 2 for the skills (spot mostly, but other physical skills like climb, jump, balance, tumble, etc.) and skill points. Combat mastery would probably just get retrained. Cloistered cleric is a mechanically superior choice, but really doesn't fit. Cloistered cleric =/= Feral Barbarian. With a pumped up Intelligence of 10 (that's 10 points of point buy) he's a super genious in his tribe (average 4-5 normally). I've been thinking of switching out human for Neanderthal. Primitive weapons (tiger skull club / smilodon great club), "super" illiteracy, and strength bonus. Possibly switching War Hulk for Primeval (my dm may allow smilodon as a form since it's only 1 hd out of bounds) for greater playability. This would, unfortunately, leave me with a dex and int of 8. I may have to drop Feral if I go that route. |

Its not like the Half-Dragon template or Half-Celestial that you take onto an existing race (i.e. human or neanderthal). Rather Half-Ogre is its own race, like Half-Orc or Half-Elf. Thematically you can call the "other half" whatever you want, but it doesn't affect your racial stats, abilities, skills, feats, etc. Back on topic, perhaps consider Lolth-Touched instead of Feral. Still +1 LA, but better STR & CON boosts, and your DEX and INT don't take a hit that way. And then you're immune to fear, like you were hoping to get with Paladin 3. If you don't like ties to Lolth, see if your DM will let you simply reflavor the fluff of the template. I've had DM's allow the template but just change it to "Bahamut-Blessed" or whatnot. Just a suggestion. ;) |
