I was contemplating using the Djinni from Savage Species as part of my gestalt build. Here is the lowdown: +2 Dex, +2 Int Speed 20, Fly 30 (perfect) Darkvision Level 1 - subtypes (air, chaotic, good), telepathy 100' Level 2 - Acid res 5, air mastery, +2 wis, +1 NA Level 3 - Dodge, +2 Str, invisibility at will Level 4 - Slam 1d4, whirlwind 1/day, +2 dex, Improved Initiative Level 5 - Acid res 10, +2 Str, Plane Shift 2/day (self only) Level 6 - +2 NA, +2 Con, gaseous form 1/day, create food/water 1/day, create wine 1/day Level 7 - Fly 60', +2 Str, +2 Dex, plane shift 2/day (1 passenger) Level 8 - Acid Res 15, whirlwind 3/day, +2 wis Level 9 - Large size, +2 Str, major creation 1/day, persistent image 1/day, wind walk 1/day Level 10 - Slam 1d6, +2 con, plane shift 2/day (3 passengers) Level 11 - Acid Res 20, +3 NA Level 12 - Whirlwind at will, +2 dex, +2 cha, plane shift at will (6 passengers) Level 13 - Acid immunity, slam 1d8, +2 cha, +2 int Because of gestalt and because we are using elements from pathfinder the feat progression is going to be pathfinders, where you get one at 1st and then 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc... So what I'm trying to figure out is what kind of class will mesh well with all of those abilities that the Djinni is providing? Because of what other people have picked for the group (ghost/warlock, pixie/warlock, catfolk/scout/dervish, human barbarian/druid) I was aiming for a Psion so that I can fill the "spellcaster" roll of having odd utility spells. The only real problem is that the Djinni doesn't seem to mesh perfectly there. With all of the ability boosts over the course of the game it seems like it would work better as a frontliner. Oh, last thing... the entire party is taking Vow of Poverty out of Book of Exalted Deeds, so no magic items for anyone! |

Then you could pull frontline duty if you felt like it, but still have the spells available to cover the utility spells that the druid isn't able to provide. Psion into Slayer works well for that, maybe with some Ranger at the beginning. You'll have high Dex and flight, so the ranged combat option is there too. Not so much with Vow of Poverty, though. |

Heck, you could front-line and skill-monkey (and the scout has the trapfinding covered). I think that psion would be fine (if you're looking for "flavor", that's covered by your discipline selection); even wilder would work. Of course, any caster would work well; and since your race covers all the martial prowess you need, load-up full caster for the "win". Your SLA's just add to the pot. |
| #4lormadorJun 09, 2009 8:52:29 | That's a good point, straight Psion will be better than the Ranger/Slayer thing. I'd go Egoist, if I were you, considering that 1) you have Vow of Poverty, which will continue to benefit you fully no matter what your form when you Metamorphosis, and 2) you'll be an outsider, so you get access to forms that make others droll with envy. Full manifesting will help cover the vulnerabilities of Vow of Poverty nicely, and your natural Flight is one of the few things psionics doesn't do so well. Just be careful. Vows and the supernatural ability to create wine don't always mix well! |

Telepathy from Genie -> Mindsight What do you want to be? Instead of describing a build, describe what you want to accomplish and with what flavor, and others here may be able to suggest something even more helpful. Best, David |

I ask, because I once played a Efreet and I had loads of fun roleplaying, trying to corrupt all my fellow party members into abusing my wishes. Just change the 3 wishes a day, to three wishes per party, and once they are all gone you and your "bottle" (mine was a masterwork chest studded with gems and gold) will disappear, your party should be reluctant to use wishes. That will keep your DM happy because your group won't be abusing wishes. If your in a good party, see if your DM will allow you to ignore the Lawful Evil subtype. Being a Genie also gives you a cool opportunity to think of imaginative ways to mess up your friends wishes. one party member asked to be the most powerful mage on the planet, I sent him to a completely lifeless planet as a 1st level wizard. just a suggestion. |
