| #1the_messengerFeb 08, 2009 5:57:50 | Hello all. I was wondering recently about the potential possibilities for my character in a new campaign. For quite some time, I've wanted to play an artificer. I also recently discovered psionics. So a thought came to me, what if I mixed the two together? It's a 3 party campaign, so the DM has decreed we'll be playing Gestalt characters. Starting ECL is level 6, all books are allowed, and pretty much anything goes. Starting gold is 13000 gp, with no more than 3250 spent on a single item. My stats, as so far unnarranged, stand at 16, 15, 13, 13, 18, 17. As for the character itself, I was set playing a human; not only for the extra feat and skill points, but also the benefit of being able to take the Mark of Making. Also, I like human characters from a flavour context, and I find them suited to the style of character I want to make. Also, I was thinking of possibly taking the Phrenic template in EPH. As you can see from the title, the classes I'd picked were Artificer and Psionic Warrior. However, this can change. At the minute, I'm not sure whether I want to take the regular Artificer, or the psionic version presented in Magic of Eberron. As for Psychic Warrior, I wanted to be able to play a character that was able to keep up in combat with the other two in the party, a Warforged Knight//Ranger and an Elf Paladin//Feat Rogue. So far, I've struggled to come up with a selection of feats, aside from Least Mark of Making and Attune Magic Weapon. I plan to play this character, mechanically, as a ranged combatant. Due to flavour circumstances, I had my heart set on a crossbow, preferably heavy and repeating. However, this can also change, and I'll probably upgrade to a custom built psycannon (cookie to those who get the reference) at later levels. Beyond this, and a few basic items, such as Heward's Handy Haversack and Artificer's Monocle, my gold currently remains unspent. In terms of armour, I was thinking something rather heavy and protective, as I don't really see my character moving around much. As for my character's future, I eventually want to be able to take the Renegade Mastermaker prestige class in Magic of Eberron, and possibly Master Inquisitive, for flavour purposes. My DM has decided to be rather lenient and allow me to count any Psionic Item Creation feat as its magical counterpart, in terms of qualifying for feats and prestige classes. Thus, I could take the Psionic Artificer and still automatically qualify for the Renegade Mastermaker at level 5. Also, I would be allowed to craft pretty much any custom item or warforged compnents, and plan on eventually upgrading my character with such things as a power drill (see my Warforged Components thread in Eberron Lore). Thankyou for persisting with my insistent rambling, and I look forward to any input you might have. |

Same base attack as with the PW (since Artificer and PW have the same), but now you have real buff spells. Grab Knowledge Devotion and Divine Metamagic: Persistent Spell 1 CCleric//Artificer - Scribe Scroll - Extend Spell - Extra Turning - Persistent Spell - Divine Metamagic: Persistent Spell (Planning Domain, Knowledge Domain, Undeath Domain) 2 CCleric//Artificer - Brew Potion 3 CCleric//Artificer - Craft Wonderous Item - Knowledge Devotion 4 CCleric//Artificer - Craft Homunculus - Extraordinary Artisan 5 CCleric//Artificer - Craft Magic Arms and Armor 6 CCleric//Artificer - Whatever This way, you still get your mystic-wisdom based crafting warrior, you just... get a lot of extras. Craft up the pwnest crossbow you can. If you want archery stuff, you could trade the Undeath Domain for the Elf domain and grab Rapid Shot at sixth level. Just put Precise on the weapon and you're ready to go. ![]() |

However, in the end I just couldn't be bothered picking out all the spells, and seeing as I've never played a spellcaster before, I wasn't going to throw myself in the deep end. Also, I would get bored just playing a support character, and we don't really need one. Though thanks for the input. Also, does anyone know if the Magic Mantle granted ability would mean I could craft psionic weapons/items with Craft Magical Arms and Armour and suchlike? |
