Hello all

My dear wizard died last night, so now I have to make a new char. I'd still like an arcane caster, since we dont have any, but I was thinking of changing to sorcerer instead of wizard, to try something new.
We are playing a gestalt game, using complete series, dragon magic, races of the... series, and forgotten realms books.
We dont allow flaws, templates or prestigeclass dipping..also, since I'm not TOTALLY amoral..no DMM

I was thinking of something with sorcerer and incantatrix..and maybe ½elf paragon + human paragon for feats and more cha...for non caster side I was thinking paladin for saves -but thats not set in stone...I'm deeply in love with dragonic flavour, but find it hard to make a viable build with the prestigeclasses in those book.

We are a party of 3, so I cant be too specialized..it's also a fairly relaxed campaign, so i dont need to be completely overpowered... the other is a archer/rogue - cant find traps though, and a melee type with favoured soul.
Can anyone help me make a sorcerer'ish char?

Sorcerers//paladins make great gishes in gestalt. Throw in some spellsword... arcane channeling, casting in armor... and you can use the gestalt to maintain perfect bab and casting. Also you can use DMM.
do you use fractional or +1 for BAB and spell casting?

yes, we do use fractional BaB and saves..I'd rather not use spellsword..my BF had a sorcerer // paladin/spellsword in our last campaign, and while it rocked, it would seem like copying him a bit too much

Sorcerer//Rogue would be pretty cool for flinging ranged touch spells at people to do Sneak Attack damage. Give you a rogue's skills and other class features + Sorcerers powerful arcane casting. Drift into Unseen Seer on either side for some interesting shananananananananananananagins concerning adding spells like Divine Insight and Hunter's Eye to you spell list. Yummy.

Alternatively, Sorcerer//Spellthief is very Cha focused, and would allow you to make some wreckage on any caster foes you face. Again, ranged touch spells on your sorcerer side like Orbs, Whirling Blade, Cloud of Knives, and similar would be great boons. Again, you could hop into Unseen Seer on your Sorcerer side without losing much and gaining quite a bit.

I would suggest putting Half-Elf Paragon and Human Paragon partly on your non-casting side. Specifically, the first and third levels of Half-Elf Paragon and the first level of Human Paragon. Rule number one with full casters is you never want to give up caster levels, so only put the paragon levels that advance your caster level on that side.

A single level of Marshal can get you an interesting ability or two. Not an allowed source, I know, but it's simple, easy to get passed, and available right here if you don't have the books. +Cha to [fill in the blank]. If you want to be a really crazy diplomat, get Motivate Charisma to add your charisma to all charisma checks, double-dipping there for Diplomacy. Or just grab Determined Caster and laugh at anyone with spell resistance. Or take three levels of Marshal to grab both.

Hexblade is similar to Paladin in effect- full BAB and charisma to saves, but only against spells. Though really, what else matters?

Ascetic Mage lets you get charisma to AC.

So, if you really want something weird to RP, you could throw all of those into a blender and have something that looks like this:

Half-Elf Paragon 1/Human Paragon 1/Monk 1/Half-Elf Paragon 1/Hexblade 2/Marshal 1//Sorcerer 1/Half-Elf Paragon 1/Human Paragon 2/Sorcerer 3

That's level seven. It gets you full casting, with +4 Cha from the paragons, Cha to saves versus spells, Cha to AC when not wearing armor, and Cha to a couple of things that you can switch in and out of via Marshal. That last Sorcerer level should probably go to some prestige class or another.

Hmmm. What about a Hexblade/Rogue for mettle/evasion + spells/sneakattack? Sufficiently different from the paladin/sorc/spellsword mentioned above, doesn't require crazy PrC dipping, full BAB, d10 HD, and still allows an amount of flexibility for PrC customization. Plus, you have your own method of achieving invisibility for sneak attacks.

Viletta, I like the + cha to AC but I think i'll use ninja instead of monk...that way I'd have trapfinding, and even a sorc should be able to pull off 5 skillpoints pr lvl for search, disable device, concentration, spellcraft and know -arcana.

then all I need is to figure out a prestigeclass to go instead of those pesky sorcerer lvls

thanks to everyone for some cool ideas
