Hi all,

First a quick question -- how do I change my name from "guest12309429658736930875109857"?  Can't find it...

Anyway, I'm making a 20th-level gestalt character for an Eberron game, and since the idea of a halfling riding a dinosaur is one of the greatest things ever, I decided to go for my version of the Supermount build.  I display it here for your perusal and commentary.

Strongheart Halfling (origin: Talenta Plains)
Gestalt Fighter 20 + Pal 5/Beastmaster 2/Halfling Outrider 10/Wild Plains Outrider 3

Stats:
Str -- 18 - 2 racial + 4 stat bump + 4 manual + 6 belt = 30
Dex -- 14 + 2 racial + 6 gloves = 22
Con -- 14
Int -- 12
Wis -- 13
Cha -- 17 + 1 stat bump + 6 cloak = 24

ECL Feats:
1 - Mounted Combat
1 - Talenta Warrior (racial bonus)
1 - Skill Focus: Handle Animal (flaw: Vulnerable)
1 - Track (flaw: Frail)
3 - Dinosaur Wrangler
6 - Devoted Tracker
7 - Alertness (outrider bonus)
9 - Natural Bond
12 - Celestial Mount
15 -  Force of Personality
18 - Talenta Dinosaur Bond
20 - Animal Affinity (beastmaster bonus [swapped from Alertness])

Fighter Bonus Feats:
1 - Weapon Focus: Talenta Boomerang
2 - Mounted Archery
4 - Weapon Specialization: Talenta Boomerang
6 - Ride-by Attack
8 - Greater Weapon Focus: Talenta Boomerang
10 - Improved Critical: Talenta Boomerang
12 - Greater Weapon Specialization: Talenta Boomerang
14 - Spirited Charge
16 - Brutal Throw
18 - Quick Draw
20 - Hurling Charge

Companion/Mount -- Glimmerwing
Added feats:  Hover, Improved Flight, Improved Flyby Attack, Powerful Charge, Greater Powerful Charge, Improved Initiative

Equipment:
+5 valorous returning distance Talenta Boomerang
+5 valorous Talenta Sharrash
+2 holy anarchic Talenta Tangat
+5 mithral shirt of medium fortification
Ring of Protection +5
Ring of Regeneration
Belt of Giant Strength +6
Gloves of Dexterity +6
Cloak of Charisma +6
Manual of Gainful Exercise
Saddle of Ride +15 untyped bonus (to stack with class features w/ competence bonus... I paid double for an untyped bonus)

The basic idea is to charge on round 1, throwing the boomerang w/ Hurling Charge and then attacking with the sharrash, getting x2 dmg on both w/ Spirited Charge.  Meanwhile the glimmerwing gets +3d6 from the charge.  The tangat is for evil/lawful creatures and for full attacks.

Maintaining 3 weapons is tough on my equipment budget... I'd wanted to take advantage of the enormous crit range on the tangat with burst abilities, but couldn't fit it in...

Thoughts??  Thanks in advance.

Edit: That should say "Paladin of Freedom 5", which is why he is CG and has an anarchic weapon.

I believe you'll have to make a new account. The account screen name is determined while you're setting it up.

EDIT: Actually, click the Home link at the top-left of the page, then find the menu item on the left that says "Profile." This will open a submenu which contains an item named "Edit Profile." You'll be taken to a page with text fields, and the first one displayed will be "Full Name (For Display)."

Put in whatever name you want.

I did that already, and it made no difference...

You'll need to re-register, then. Perhaps with a different e-mail address.

As for your actual question, it's not "official" (several fringe cases like this never are, when dealing with Unearthed Arcana), but since hybridizing PrCs are forbidden in Gestalt, I'm not entirely sure hybridizing feats like Devoted Tracker are allowed in gestalt either. If your DM clears it, you're good to go - gestalting effectively gives you animal companion / special mount dual progression even without the halfling outrider.

You're using Boomerangs without the Boomerang Daze feat? That feat alone makes the boomerang one of the best weapons in the game. Seriously, look it up in Races of Eberron. It's a lot better than half of the fighter-specific feats since it actually denies the opponent actions, and denying them actions is orders of magnitude better than denying them some additional hit points. Seriously, Boomerang Daze >>>>>> Greater Weapon Specialization, particularly if you're just using one attack. (GWS is only worth it, IMHO, if you're getting insane numbers of attacks off, or if you're aiming for the higher-level exclusive fighter feats like Weapon Supremacy. However, in this specific case, it may be worth keeping: It essentially becomes Ability Focus(boomerang daze) in addition to dealing damage.) There are other nifty boomerang feats in the same book that are definitely worth considering (especially Boomerang Ricochet), but Daze is the real winner.

Check out RadicalTaoist's iconic Let's Play Catch thread to see how truly devastating this ability is. It may be worth replacing the Fighter side with altogether (use Fighter / Master Thrower, or perhaps better yet, Fighter / Warblade / Bloodstorm Blade - this will save you feats, and allow you to use Iron Heart strikes with your boomerangs. Consider what Ricochet + Daze + Mithral Tornado will do.); the Supermount! side is pretty solid.

The boomerang may actually be so effective at its job that you may not even need to switch to the tangat or the sharrash. That'll save you a LOT of money. You can also use that money for an augment gem of readiness (MIC), which effectively gives you the quickdraw feat on any weapon you've attached it to.

On your equipment, ditch the +5 if you have access to a teammate who can cast Greater Magic Weapon. This will save you oodles of cash, and may let you actually get burst abilities on the sharrash if you want. (Note: My favorite is Dessicating Burst. It looks weaker than Flaming Burst, yes, but then you notice that a fatigued target is unable to charge (shutting down a lot of melee damage), and any extra fatigue (like from another crit) exhausts the target, bestowing him an incredible -6 untyped penalty to both Strength and Dexterity. Fatigue is hard to remove mid-battle.) Other options include Aptitude (Tome of Battle), which lets you apply all of those boomerang feats to the sharrash or tangat as well (including Boomerang Daze!), so you're effectively switching styles seamlessly. (Plus, if you're using Aptitude and are willing to try something freaking ridiculous, read the thread I linked above, and note that this would let you use Ricochet and Daze with Sweeping Strike. Meeting the skill requirements will be a pain, though.)

Also, for style points, I think the Supermount! bonuses are all you'd need to turn a tyrannosaurus into a viable high-level combat companion. The basic idea is to get its Strength up something fierce and maximize the use of Swallow Whole, which - yes, yet again - denies the enemy actions. Plus it has a lot of style.

Crap, oh well.  I guess I'll do that...

My DM is of the (oft stated) opinion: "Do whatever you want with your characters... it won't help you."  So, I'm all good for the gestalting of outrider.

The Talenta Warrior feat already lets me use the boomerang-specific feats on all three weapons; I applied them nominally to the boomerang because it was first alphabetically.  Boomerang Daze is a great idea, I had forgotten it... I'll have to see what I can swap out for it.

I'll have to try the alternate build with Bloodstorm Blade, see what it ends up looking like.

I liked the idea of having aerial mobility with the Glimmerwing... is the T-Rex better?  The image of a halfling riding a T-Rex is priceless...

Ride a Megaraptor, which has Pounce.

With its extra HD, take Power Attack, Leap Attack, Imp Bull Rush, Shock Trooper, Multiattack, and Imp Multiattack.

Win.

Especially because you can drop its AC in the tank and use Mounted Combat to replace it with a Ride check.
