| #1metalz05Mar 27, 2008 18:05:20 | I am joining a game soon and I've come up with a build for a tripper and need some help optimizing it. I will give you the creation/house rules for the game: Creation Rules: Show Character Level 16 - Ghestalt Pre assigned ability scores: 18, 16, 15, 14, 12, 10. You still get 4 floating points to put into those from level advancment. --Race restrictions-- Nothing with a LA or Racial HD. Nothing Forgotten Realms specific. --Other Restrictions-- No Forgotten Realms ANYTHING. this includes races, feats, classes, orders, etc. PRC's that can be reasonably adapted to fit Ebberon may be allowed at my discression. No PRC's that allow simultaneous advancment of multiple spellcasting/manifesting classes. This kinda breaks ghestalt (which is already broken). No items (except spellbooks, which only get spells aquired through level advancment) The Leadership feat is NOT allowed, nor are any PRC's which mimic it (I.E. Thrallherd). You will not start out with your familiar, but will be able to aquire one shortly after joining the game. You will start with your psicrystal if you have one. This is because a psicrystal is aquired through a feat whereas a familiar is a class ability for which you must spend money. --Other Notes-- I'll allow most things except what I've already listed here. these are the few rules i have that are non-negotiable. PLease, please, please, please, please don't ask me if you can play a race with a LA. I'm going to say no unequivically. Average or roll for HD at Every level. |
| #2NezkrulMar 27, 2008 18:41:28 | way way WAY too many House Rules. And Book keeping because of them. Your DM will most likely forget his own House Rules during the game because of this, and will likely spend most of his time figuring out his own mechanics. My suggestion: don't play. Some other problems: Why the 1 level of crusader? If it's to get Thicket of Blades stance, you actually need 2 levels. You begin play with 1 1st level stance, and you can't choose a stance as a maneuver known, because stances are only considered maneuvers for prerequisites of other maneuvers. You need Combat Expertise to get Improved Trip. |
| #3metalz05Mar 27, 2008 18:46:40 | One other problem: how do you have human paragon levels and dwarf paragon levels? there is no half-dwarf race. I know there is alot of house rules... as for the human and dwarf paragon classes, stoneblessed lets me qualify for dwarf classes n such |
| #4NezkrulMar 27, 2008 19:01:19 | The problem with Stoneblessed is the hefty special requirement to get into it. If your DM is ok with you getting invited to be amongst dwarves with your only class levels as "Warblade 3//Human Paragon3", then that doesn't surprise me considering the insurmountable number of pointless houserules . |
| #5metalz05Mar 27, 2008 19:09:10 | lol, very true... but i have to write a back story and we are stating at lvl 16. so it will be incorporated in the story |
| #6the_ninjaneerMar 27, 2008 19:42:21 | By no means am I an expert and I have no books with me at the moment. So take any advice here with a grain of salt. Let's see - Defensive sweep would go well with the thicket of blades stance you are picking up with crusader at 20th level. You nail them if they move, you nail them if they don't. Grabbing elder mountain hammers will allow this character to ignore hardness of weapons so grabbing improved sunder + combat brute will net you some more options when you can't trip opponent. (IE when they are flying) If there are actually characters out there running around with *90* strength - grab elusive opponent. A three feat investment that will be worth it's weight in denying these opponents str and power attack bonuses to damage. It also provides some defense vs flanking characters. Optimize this by using combat focus feats to allow yourself to switch dodge buddys as an immeadate (!?) action and spread the pain to all flanking parties. Add in defensive throw to cash in on all these forced misses with more trip attacks. You can also gain fast healing through the combat focus feat, nothing to sneeze at. Mage slayer is useful - denying mages the ability to cast spells defensively in the characters range is useful. Grab Elusive Reflexes and Karmaic strike - and go all 'jack-be-nimble' on any opponent who tries to full attacks you. I wonder if a level or two of swordsage wouldn't do this characters some good. This character could make good use of setting sun manuevers (ballista throw), Shadow Blade could be used with a spiked chain, you would grab a weapon focus here for free, add wisdom to damage with a manevers set as well as to ac in light armour, which, seeing how this character has to have two-weapon fighting dex, could be useful. Some shadow hand stances such as spider climb greatly improve manueverablity, another character weakness, while Island of Blades would help any pre-epic rouges you have with you. I believe there is a Desert wind maneuver that increases your weapon range another 5', shadow hand manevers allow you to teleport. It's important to have a way out of force cages or walls of force. Consider increasing your dex to grab more two weapon fighting feats. Then again, I value extra attack too much. Everyone loves Shocktrooper, and for good reason. It's worth a look. Improved Disarm - spiked chain is two handed and comes with a disarm bonus. Provides another option and is less feat intensive (but less useful then) sundering. Improved toughness? As a side note - I know its optimal, but I hate the connotations of having abberation blood. I, personally, would never want to be confused with a hentai monster. |
| #7NezkrulMar 27, 2008 20:03:53 | I edited my post above, again, but I'll repost the important part; you need 2 levels of crusader to get thicket of blades, unless you somehow get a bonus feat or feat right after you take the class and can take martial stance (thicket of blades) |
| #8metalz05Mar 27, 2008 20:22:47 | poo... ur right as far as thicket of blades, and the wolf totem barbarian gets imp trip free at 2nd lvl and dont have to meet prereqs |
| #9NezkrulMar 27, 2008 22:24:32 | wolf totem barbarian gets imp trip free at 2nd lvl and dont have to meet prereqs oh snap! |

Your DM will most likely forget his own House Rules during the game because of this, and will likely spend most of his time figuring out his own mechanics. Hey, this is the GM here. I'm just going to point out here that I know what the heck I'm doing and yes, I can remember my own house rules because I wrote them and they're inheriant to the world I'm running. Awfully big stab there to say a that a DM can't remember his own house rules. cypher |
