I was wondering what metamagic might be useful for a character in my situation. I'm tightening down my feat selection for a character I'm currently using. Party is all LA+1, currently at 8 class levels. We've just had two people interested in joining, but looks like I'm still the primary Arcane caster. The campaign has currently plunged into the Underdark, so SR has become my bane (but I just acquired Assay Spell Resistance, and plan to use it for sweet, sweet debuffy vengeance).

Setting is FR, sourcebooks are nearly any splatbooks. Everything is subject to DM approval, and the only caveat is that he's perfectly willing to use what the players do. By mutual agreement, Polymorph is currently not in use.

Party:

CE Barbarian going Frenzied Berserker
CG Ranger going some homebrew elemental archer variant
CG Paladin of Freedom who's trying his best to tolerate the Barb for now
N Cloistered Cleric of Oghma
Me, the N (formerly NE) Ftr 1/Wiz 6/SS 1 gish, going for 2 more SS and then 10 EK (Abj Champ is out)

Incoming:
NE Assassin, possibly N. DM would allow it, player is debating.
CG Warmage. I'd tell her to play a Sorc, but I don't wanna stick my nose in other people's gameplay.

With the Warmage incoming to hold down the blaster role, and the Cleric taking Divine MM Persist + Extend, I was wondering what feats might be optimal for me to take. So far my greatest utility has been in throwing around Rays of Enfeeblement/Clumsiness, along with liberal use of Glitterdust and Grease (which, combined with Sculpt Spell, are LOVE).

Currently I'm sitting on the following:
1) Power Attack
Ftr 1) Combat Reflexes
Wiz 1) Scribe Scroll
3) Smiting Spell
6) Practiced Spellcaster
Wiz 5) Sculpt Spell
-----Planned-----
9) Arcane Strike (next level)
SS 2) Leap Attack (also at next level)
EK 1) Minor Shapeshift
12) Quicken Spell
15) Robilar's Gambit (as early as possible, this is where I hit BAB 12)
18) ???

I have a Lesser Rod (Empower) and the cleric is hanging onto the Lesser Maximize (since we decided predictable heals are more important than predictable debuffs, and Empower has the *potential* to do more debuffage).

This is my first Arcane caster and my first lengthy campaign, period, so advice would be appreciated.

Anyways you seem to have a good gameplan. For your 19th level feat i'd go persistant spell so you can persist wraithstrike.

Apr 07, 2008 22:16:07 I keep Will Save spells on hand for the Barbarian, and he's actually looking at switching over to a Scout/Rogue Swift Ambusher character for a change of pace, so if the incoming Assassin goes Neutral, we might be alright.

Persistent Wraithstrike seems like a bit much, mostly because I don't want to see it turned against me. Even so, Persist does look nice, but what would you recommend swapping out to fit in Extend? I don't want to give up Arcane Strike, Leap Attack, or Robilar's Gambit. Minor Shapeshift looks incredibly useful given my comparatively low HP (especially with the LA we all have), which mostly leaves Quicken.

Are there any good single-feat options? I've considered Imp Initiative, but my familiar already buffs my Init through the ceiling (custom familiar, a Mongoose--statted as a Weasel, but gives +3 Initiative, and I've taken Elf Substitution levels that double it to +6 at the cost of his ability to deliver touch spells).

Arcane Thesis would be interesting, but I can't pour on the Metamagic to make it worthwhile. I'm considering something along the lines of Twin or Split Ray (though I'd have to check the pre-reqs on those).

Looks fine except that EK bonus feat must be a fighter feat. You'll have to swap it with some other feat.
