We are starting a 3.5e campaign where we all have to be Gnomes from PHB. Any base class is allowed. I am thinking either Warlock or Sword Sage. No one else has a class picked yet. Any ideas and reasons behind those ideas are welcomed. Thanks

Gnomes have some surprisingly devastating options available to them.

For mage types, the Shadowcraft Illusionist is one of the hallmarks of power on this board and can be expressed in many, many different ways.

For melee types,  this thread contains all you would ever need to know.

For general warlock or swordsage advice, you'll have to be more specific. Note that gnomes don't get the Dex bonus halflings do, but can nonetheless rock with Setting Sun.

We'll need to know more information to provide more detail, but those are good starting points.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking into the feats in RoS. I like the idea of a gnome swordsage and was curious if a Diamond Mind/Setting Sun style would actually work? As for Warlock, I haven't made a caster in a while and that was my only reasoning behind them. I usually make skill monkeys.

I'd play a gnome crusader with the feat Wild Cohort.   It's unlikely that another Gnome will want to play the "Tank" role.  Gnomes are the best at mounted combat for Crusader since they can ride around on medium mounts.  Grab a Riding dog and go to town.

1) Wild Cohort
3) Mounted Combat
6) Ride-By-Attack
9) Spirited charge
12) Power Attack
15) Extra Granted Maneuver
18) Martial Study (Mountain Tombstone Strike)

If someone is playing a Gnome Druid your build becomes even better.  Ditch Wild Cohort and you'll get all your feats one level sooner.
