Goblin 'Paladin' ? - Downloaded from the Wizards Community, all coding removed by Solauren

#1 Cheiron Feb 01, 2014 15:33:46	Hey all, I am currently in a(PF) PbP game and yes my character is alive and well. However I got struck with an odd idea. I want to play as a goblin paladin, I use that term loosely btw. I just thought the image of a goblin riding a golbin dog inot battle clad in armor and spouting holy righteuousness would be an interesting quirk. How would one go about doing that in terms of class levels. Right now i am thining of going paladin 2/Oracle 18 and taking wild cohort as my first level feat ( some 3.5 stuff is allowed) As for mounted combat i really never had any interest in it in most D&D, BUT with being a goblin and riding a medium sized animal i CAN go inside that ruin and such now.
#2 Krusk Feb 02, 2014 8:49:22	Swap oracle for cleric, and your build sounds pretty solid. What specifically are you looking for help with? My recomended build for you? Paladin 3/cleric 17. Paladin 3 gives immune to fear and disease which is pretty sweet. You could also seriously consider cleric 20, and take animal domain getting you a mount at 4th level. Take liberation for the honorbound stuff, and freedom of movement is nice. If you want an awesome build swap animal for scalykind. Ride around on a medium constrictor. Goblin Variants Cave Crawler - You will be mounted, who cares about your speed. This gives a climb speed which is super handy. Hard Head, Big Teeth - A natural weapon is super helpful, but so is your racial ride bonus. This is a toss up you can debate.
#3 StevenO Feb 02, 2014 11:03:39	I can't think of what it is called (Supermount maybe?) but there are some pretty amazing mounted builds that can be done using HALFLINGS. The problem with using them with your Goblin is that they make use of the Halfling Outrider PrC which you can probably guess is a "halfling only" PrC; some GMs will allow it to be altered for use by Goblins but others may not.
#4 Andarious-Rosethorn Feb 02, 2014 23:16:48	Supermount or Ubermount wouldn't be wrong. It's Paladin 5/Beast Master 1/Halfling Outrider 10 as the lynchpin. Wild Planes Outrider and some more Beast Master typically finish off the remaining levels but there's all kinds of other options. Sadly, no good to your Goblin. Use Spirited Charge and a Lance with Power Attack and life may be fairly good.
#5 Slagger_the_Chuul Feb 03, 2014 0:44:34	The other one that works in terms of ubermount dual advancement is the Ashworm Dragoon/Paladin, since the dragoon offers its own mount advancement and a paladin can sacrifice its poison to give it mount advancement, but that's obviously not going fit for a build that starts at 1st level and uses a riding dog (though an ashworm's snake-like shape means it shouldn't have much trouble in dungeons, despite being Large). The other option you've got (if it's allowed) is the Wild Cohort feat, which provides you with a slightly weaker version of the druid's animal companion. It doesn't have all the goodies of a full animal companion, but can be easily attached to almost any character.

I do not want uber charge and super mount builds, I do nto want to be running around effectively playing my mount with a 'pc' cohort. I just wanted some advice on a way to make a divine 'paladin-esque' mounted character who is still a vlaid and contrubutory element of th eparty, and whos mount is not a complete and total liability. I am thinking that just going straight cleric might be the best route.. too bad there isn;t a divine casting based PrC that whos raw power is less than Mammoth Rider but make up for it for being +1/2 casting progression.. Hmm.. might be something I want What PrCs allow me to get the Divine grace ability or is there even one.. i know theres like a score and a half that net me smite, but off the top of my head i cannot think of any that give me Divine grace.

There are a few prestige classes about with divine grace, A couple of them are in the Book of Exalted Deeds, and they seem to like combining it with a class that grants its own casting ability. A quick search gave me this, which has a section for divine grace.
#8 Krusk Feb 09, 2014 7:18:01	Prestige paladin 2 gives divine grace and a paladins mount equal toy your prestige paladin +3. So you could get a secondary companion, or use this as a weak primary one. Maybe see if you can stack it onto your animal companion? And also, I think there was a feat that stacked them, but don't quote me.
