| #1Bot4May 24, 2009 14:44:50 | I'm gonna be playing as a druid in a gesalt game pretty soon. We have +2 LA free that can't be used on templates. Any good +2 LA races out there for druids? |
| #2dr_rocktopusMay 24, 2009 15:16:59 | Voldonoi are great.... Unapproachable east, I believe. Plant traits, good stats, half damage from piercing, droooood as favored class. |
| #3Dictum_MortuumMay 24, 2009 15:36:09 | or a phrenic anthropomorphic bat :p |
| #4Bot4May 24, 2009 15:58:58 | I don't have Unapproachable East, so Voldonoi are out. Also, templates are still at full cost. Only the +2 racial LA is free. Oh yeah... I'm evil, so something out of the BoED isn't going to work. |
| #5-ktkenshinx-May 24, 2009 16:14:48 | Consider the Uldra from Frostburn. While it is only a +1 LA, it's abilities are well worth it. Not only is its favored class Druid, but its bonus to Wisdom and Constitution are quite valuable (the latter especially so after Wild Shape was errata'd so you retain your own HP). Small Size for early survivability, some cold resistance, and Dark and Low-Light Vision add more to the fun. Toss in decent spell-like abilities and, finally, the ability to slightly buff any natural or held weapon with some cold damage will add both to Wild Shaping and pre-level 6 fun. My recommendation: ditch one level of the +2 LA, take the +1 LA race, and enjoy the Uldra goodness. -ktkenshinx- |
| #6hogarthMay 24, 2009 16:33:41 | How about a Petal from Monster Manual III? |
| #7jgumbyrxMay 24, 2009 16:39:14 | or a phrenic anthropomorphic bat :p um...... We have +2 LA free that can't be used on templates. ..... did I miss something? I do believe that both of those are templates. ![]() |

| #9Bot4May 24, 2009 16:54:21 | Consider the Uldra from Frostburn. While it is only a +1 LA, it's abilities are well worth it. I would if I had that book... I am planning on becomming a Dry Lich (through the Walker in the Waste prestige class), so Con doesn't matter quite as much. We start at level 10 and the game is gesalt... Hmmm... Since I can't think of another class to run along-side druid, I might just go with a high LA race to fill up levels 1-6 or so. |
| #10Bot4May 24, 2009 17:13:23 | :coolcthul Mindflayers have a +7 LA and 8 hit dice? I need to fit in 5 levels of Nature's Warrior, 10 levels of Walker in the Waste, enough levels of druid so I get full wildshape benefits... Damn. It doesn't work (at least not by tenth level)... Another idea: Sorcerer/Druid specializing in polymorph/wildshape, taking the Master Transmogrifist and Nature's Warrior prestige classes... I have an overpowering urge to play as a half dinosaur/half mindflayer. |

| #12pyro_azerMay 24, 2009 22:21:46 | Also crucian. May not be worth the LA but worth a mention. |
| #13jopustopinMay 24, 2009 22:40:17 | Not terribly special but the Phaethon from Races of Ansalon have the fire and elf subtype (immunity to fire), can create wings of fire as a free action fly speed 60 (average), -2 Strength +2 Wisdom All this can be yours for a lowly +2 level adjustment. |
| #14risnerMay 25, 2009 7:45:04 | How about a Petal from Monster Manual III? It is limited to Cohorts. |
| #15the_shamanMay 25, 2009 8:05:23 | Githzerai aren't too bad I guess. The dex does nothing when wildshaped (unless you are using either the Pathfinder rules on it or the PHB II feature) but the extra AC and ranged attack is handy before that. Intelligence isn't such a big problem for a druid imo, and the wisdom helps. The psi-likes can be handy - afaik you can use them when wildshaped, and having mage - sorry, inertial armor on your pet will help it a lot at first. It will work for you as well when you are wildshaped - later on you can use wild or beastskin (?) armor, but both are fairly expensive. Concussion blast can be useful when you need a sure-fire hit with force damage, the rest are situational (though imo the plane shift can be very useful in some campaigns). SR is a so-so ability, but I think it will be overly beneficial - chances are that nearly all pure casters (such as the party healer) will overcome it, but has a reasonable chance to stop spells from items and racial spell/psi-likes. Overall a good choice if the DM removes the LA. |
