Got bored... which resulted in a new AC record.

Well, I got bored and was looking through my old files when I came across the AC build. I then wondered if there was anything else that could be added to generate a higher number. In the old thread, Urnsk came in and established the record. That means, of course, that his build is a good jumping off point. After all, that how a lot of these records came about. The orignial Uber AC build was done by Iku Rex, then I used elements of his to build off of, twice setting the new record. Urnsk then used well established elements for his build. Turns out, there were a couple issues wrong with Urnsk's build, but not enough to take the record away from him.

Until now. So, without further ado, I present:

Urnsk the Untouchable (paying homage to his version)

Venerable Sainted (+2 LA) Half-Fey (+2 LA) Lesser Aasimar
Passive Way Monk 1 (UA), Cleric 1 (PH), Arcane Duelist 2 (Web Enhancement), Tattooed Monk 9 (CW), Comtemplative 1 (CD), Variant Wizard 1 (UA)

Domains (SC)
Balance – Add Wisdom modifier to AC (untyped), 1/day, duration 1 round/cleric level, free action
Charm – Increase Charisma by 4 (untyped) 1/day, duration 1 minute, free action
Family - +4 Dodge bonus to AC, 1/day, duration 1 round/level, free action

Traits (UA)
Cautious - +1 Dodge bonus to AC when fighting defensively

Relevant Ability Scores (32 point buy)

Dexterity: 41 (+15)
19 base (planetar form)
+3 point buy (3 points – to qualify for dodge; not included in the total above)
+2 half-fey (unnamed)
+8 minute form (unnamed)
+2 grace (sacred)
+4 aura of vitality (morale)
+2 greater visage of the deity (unnamed)
+4 assimilate (unnamed)

+4 mountain tattoo (unnamed)
+10 owl's insight (insight)

NOTE: While the Pit Fiend gives a better Dexterity and Natural Armor combination, a character cannot be exalted and polymorph into an evil form, according to the Customer Service. Of course they're not always right, but that's the closest thing to an official ruling, so that's what I'm going with.

Now, to pump up the ability scores, use Bellflower Tattoo, applying the charisma modifier as an enhancement bonus to Charisma twice, Wisdom and Dexterity. Doing this overwrites the enhancement bonus from the Cloak of Charisma; I've noticed this below in the calculations:

  • Activate Bellflower Tattoo to gain Charisma modifier (+24) as an enhancement bonus to Charisma.
    Charisma is now 58 + 24 (mod) – 6 (cloak) = 76 (+33)
  • Activate Bellflower Tattoo to gain Charisma modifier (+33) as an enhancement bonus to Charisma.
    Charisma is now 76 + 33 – 24 (previous enhancement bonus) = 85 (+37)
  • Activate Bellflower Tattoo to gain Charisma modifier (+37) as an enhancement bonus to Charisma.
    Charisma is now 85 + 37 – 33 (previous enhancement bonus) = 89 (+39)
  • Activate Bellflower Tattoo to gain Charisma modifier (+39) as an enhancement bonus to Dexterity.
    Dexterity is now 41 + 39 = 80 (+35)
  • Activate Bellflower Tattoo to gain Charisma modifier (+39) as an enhancement bonus to Wisdom.
    Wisdom is now 53 + 39 = 92 (+41)

Final Relevant Ability Scores:
Dexterity: 80 (+35)
Wisdom: 92 (+41)

-=-=-=-=-=-=

There you have it. At first I didn't think I'd beat Urnsk's score by enough to actually post it. I felt like it was some idle-time project that I wouldn't finish or wouldn't get posted. However, beating it by that much deserves to be shared.

I should also mention that I don't have a lot of the newer books, such as the second round of completes. Pretty much anything published after ToB never made it into my collection.

Enjoy.

awesome build Otto... good to see you are still active on the boards

Thanks.

Not so active on C.O., but I am still around.

I notice in your class abilities summary, you say Bellflower Tattoo is 4/day. You are currently using it 5 times, no?

The initial build had only 7 levels of Tattooed Monk. Good eye.

Remember that you can acquire the Dancing with shadows feat with your Planetar casting. Heroics for the win.

Very nice work, Otto, very nice.

Oh. Totally forgot about planetar casting. Awesome.

Thank you.

And what about Divine Shield (CW 107) for extra Cha modifier for AC?

I looked at that, but as he's not using a shield I'd say that doesn't work out so well.

Don't think you can simply grab Dancing With Shadows with planetar casting since it requires Kalashtar as a race for starters and I don't think it's a Fighter bonus feat.

Your lvl breakdown is wrong

plus you can go a lil bit higher, i have a 400+ without cohort build somewhere gimme 10 minutes an d i'll post it

edit:

Took my time cause had some troubles (read the NOTE 2 if you care what they were):

Sorry if it is hard to read, it's the first time i do this kind of posts (i wrote it in a notepad and copypasted it)

A couple acclarations beforehand:

NOTE 1: MY build has many things in common with Otto's, i have another build that has some important diferences, but this build has 10 points more of AC so no point in posting the other one.

NOTE 2: While tidying my notes to make turn them into a readable post i realised i had a budget problem (had considered 2nd ability from every item as .5 instead of .75 and had multiplied spell level by 325 instead of 375). Since its really late and have to go to university tomorrow i'll do the simpler thing:

+5 defending became +1 defending and will cast GMW (ugly i know)
A staff which had Haste and heroics became potions
Removed Assimilate from Psicrown, "potion" of assimilate came in
(just realised i cant have a potion of assimilate... im borrowing your gloves of assimilate sry)

I know consumables shouldnt be used in this kinda build but gp is not a problem with this build, staffs could be replaced by 1/day use items, and lots of gp would be saved then)

NOTE 3: I know it can still be improved, i could use Draconic Polymorph instead of Shapechange, but i admit i don't know in what book to find that spell, plus defending bladed boots and stuff could be used.

NOTE 4: I wasn't aware of the not polymorphing into Evil while being exalted, I did this build using White Slaad, which is C/N, if that option is unavailable then i guess i could go planetar.

NOTE 5: I did this build without a cohort, thus i will just take the leadership feat and consider i would get the same bonuses that OP gains from cohort. I don't like using cohorts for this kind of build because even when its an acquired "character Feature" it is still another character.

NOTE 6: If you don't like flaws you can still get a build of around 10 less AC (the one mentioned in NOTE 1).

Here I Introduce you...

Anubis the Staffmaster!!

RACE: Marrulurk (+2, +6, +4, +0, +6, +4) 3 HD LA +1 (Sandstorm)

Well, there you go, if you keep from there adding a Luck bonus to AC, an exploiting the items, changing the staff to 1/day use items you can even squeeze aura of vitality for 4 points more of AC, and maybe even a tome of dex or con (since inherent bonuses remain despite of your shapeshifting), and some bladed boots.

My regards to you Otto, i always love your builds.

I always loved this world record. And how crazy the custom items got (read that as a compliment). You were my inspiration for creating some of my own world records [I'd be honored if you checked out the link in my sig - but be warned of the smell, lots of cheese abounds].

Out of curiosity... Does what is the +hit record? Can anything actually deal melee or ranged damage to him without being completely unreasonable?

I'm still not sure how you're getting 5 uses out of a 4 use tattoo, but if you have found a way to go over that limit (starting your preparation within a few rounds of midnight, perhaps?) then two more uses of it to boost charisma would get your charisma to 92, I think.

Don't think you can simply grab Dancing With Shadows with planetar casting since it requires Kalashtar as a race for starters and I don't think it's a Fighter bonus feat.

Correct.

I'm not sure this is the better path to take, honestly. It'll take some time to see if gaining that extra +16 is worth it in the end.

Your lvl breakdown is wrong

That's too vague for me to understand.

Before I go further, let me just say that is a nice job you've done. However, there are some issues with it.

NOTE 1: MY build has many things in common with Otto's, i have another build that has some important diferences, but this build has 10 points more of AC so no point in posting the other one.

At these levels, stuff is always going to have a lot in common with each other.

This might change the costs for mine as well. I was going by the general item creation rules...
50 charges, spell trigger ... spell level x caster level x 750
&
Multiple Different Abilities ... Multiply higher item cost by 2

... rather than the later rules specifically for staffs.

edit2: Actually, staffs are spell trigger items. With only a level of Divine Crusader and Mystic Wanderer, how are you triggering these? I think the answer is to put one skill point into UMD, but you didn't calculate skill ranks in your build. You'll have to do that with all the PrC qualifications you need to meet. With that starting Charisma modifier, you won't have any trouble hitting the DC to activate a staff.

Just make sure the caster level of the GMW is high enough.

Don't worry about borrowing. It's how all these big numbers get established.

NOTE 3: I know it can still be improved, i could use Draconic Polymorph instead of Shapechange, but i admit i don't know in what book to find that spell, plus defending bladed boots and stuff could be used.

Draconomicon. It's used in mine to I can grab a Planetar. Polymorph has a HD cap.

NOTE 4: I wasn't aware of the not polymorphing into Evil while being exalted, I did this build using White Slaad, which is C/N, if that option is unavailable then i guess i could go planetar.

I think you'll have to use the Planetar. Just my interpretation.

NOTE 5: I did this build without a cohort, thus i will just take the leadership feat and consider i would get the same bonuses that OP gains from cohort. I don't like using cohorts for this kind of build because even when its an acquired "character Feature" it is still another character.

I agree. I went with it because Urnsk had done it to get his number.

Monk 1 (Overwhelming Assault)
Duskblade 1
Fist of the Forest 1
Dragon Devotee 1
Tattooed Monk 5
Divine Crusader 1 (Charm Domain)
Contemplative 1 (Balance Domain)
Mystic Wanderer 1
Arcane Duelist 2

You've got some alignment shenanigans there. Tsk tsk.

I used the Mystic Wanderer in my previous build, so of course I knew about that trick.

Psicrown:

Inertial Armor (ML 19) (1 * 19 = 19)
Force Screen (ML 19) (1 * 19 *.75 = 14.25)

19 + 14.25 = 33.25 * 375 = 12468.75

How are you activating this without manifester levels?

This means that you don't qualify for Dodge and Mobility, which both require a Dex of 13. Also, Venerable gets hit with a -6 Con penalty. (The dexterity penalty doesn't matter since the shapechange resets the score.)

Duration is not an issue. However, CL needs to be 20. It grants +1 / 4 levels, so +5 at 20th.

10 Base
+8 Size
+13 Armor
+8 Shield (Force Screen)
+23 Natural (White Slaad)
+9 Enhancement to Natural Armor Bonus (Tortoise shell)

+1 Monk
+1 Monk's Belt
+3 Dragonfly Tattoo
+6 Holy Star
+4 Fight Defensively (Cautios trait, 5 ranks in tumble)
+10 Double Defending +5 Quarterstaff
+17 Improved Combat Expertise

You can only generate a +15 BAB with the build you've presented. The +5 LA doesn't do anything for you, but the classes and racial hit dice do. I figure this must be something that used to be ok, but you added something to the build after seeing mine.

+1 Haste

with the cohort bonuses

411
+11 (Fight to the Death)

+2 Aid Another

441 AC !!

Note: As stated before the cohort thing is an add on i just made, i don't count the Amulet of Teamwork Bonuses cause i don't know how much it costs.

It's cost is low enough that the cohort can afford it.

Tomes for Dex and Con don't work. Once you change shape, you lose those inherent bonuses. That's something else I tried to pass off a long time ago. Don't go with staff 1/day items. That "divide by 5" is for the other items presented in that chart, which has no formula for staffs in it at all. Just IMO.

My regards to you Otto, i always love your builds.

Taerg Nor, Master Harper Incantatar

Thanks.

Actually, you've given me some food for thought as well. Maybe I'll be able to top this. (Even without the alignment shenanigans; something I just can't do.) We'll see.

Overall, you did a great job.

The 'to hit record', as far as I remember, doesn't come close to being able to hit this AC. In fact, I've yet to see anything that can hit that AC, even 3rd party published stuff deep into epic levels.

Tattooed Monk 9 has 5 tattoos, so he gets 5 uses. It used to be Tattooed Monk 7, but I changed it late and forgot to update that part of the post.

With some ideas garnered from Taerg Nor, I'll be making a new challenge in the days or weeks to come. Maybe. If I can actually beat it.

The nanobots could get +4593 to hit... but then again they were just insane. Of course I was looking for a more 'normal' build that could hit someone with lets say 450AC...

Hold on I think I might be able to bastard one of my builds and come up with that amount. I'll be back about this unless someone else finds a normal-ish build that fulfills this criteria.

I'm running late now so don't have time for a proper post which i'll do this evening but:

your level breakdown is wrong meaning how do you tale any of the prestige clases you take with only 1 Variant Wiz lvl (which i assume is martial wiz), 1 cleric and 1 passive monk?

i didn't get the part of the staff prices... isn't it SL * CL * 750 *.5 for half charges? And every next spell costs *.75 for the second, *5 for the following, at least thats how it is shown in tome and blood

btw i have enough ranks to max UMD and thats what i was assuming, about the psicrown i thought i could use UMD too

Got to increase the CL of GMW i guess 1/3 was 3.0, that was a change i had to do without my books nearby

My LA is +3 so my Bab after Divine Power is 17

i'll check draconinc polymorph that could save me a lot of money, and btw in your original build Phrenic >> Half-Fey since you don't need to spend points in raising Int to take Expertise (8 + 2 Phrenic + 3 Venerable = 13)

I'll posst my other build this evening it has less alignment shifting :P

Psychic Warrior should have been in there. I would update it, but I'm working on a new version, thanks to some of your great ideas.

Also, I plan on making you a co-author of the version I'm working on. There are so many ideas shared between the two builds, the line starts to blur. I don't expect a reciprocal gesture since I believe you'll hold the record even after fixing the build, and that makes it your call. Of course, proper credit will go to Urnsk and Iku Rex as well (the other past record holders).

i didn't get the part of the staff prices... isn't it SL * CL * 750 *.5 for half charges? And every next spell costs *.75 for the second, *5 for the following, at least thats how it is shown in tome and blood

It is. I meant that I thought of staffs, but forgot they used a different price structure than what is shown on the table in the DMG. That table doesn't have the formula of SL * CL * 750 * X, etc. That was pointing out my mistake and how rusty I am at CO, let alone TO stuff.

btw i have enough ranks to max UMD and thats what i was assuming, about the psicrown i thought i could use UMD too

You don't really need to bother maxing it. Just a single point and that huge Charisma modifier will allow you to auto-hit the DCs. And you are half-correct about the psionic device. There is a skill for psionic devices, which you'll also need to put one point into. That's the part where I display how I don't actually use psionics, so I totally forgot about that skill as well.

Got to increase the CL of GMW i guess 1/3 was 3.0, that was a change i had to do without my books nearby

No problem.

My LA is +3 so my Bab after Divine Power is 17

I thought of this last night. My bad.

Ok. Either way. I know alignment shifting is something that happens a lot for TO work. I just have a hard time with it. I might have to do it just to beat your number, but I hope not. I thought of something else that might work to really pump the number up.

Even with psychich warrior you would need to take 2 lvls to qualify for tattooed and that would leave you at lvl 21, but you can drop Contemplative (which you just take for family domain) that just gives you +4 ac, and btw that was changed to +2 (i had already checked that since i planned using Lliira as my patron, changed to oghma later)

About the alingment issues it's not as much as it seems there is only 1 shift from L/G to N/G since mystic wanderer requires non-lawful

I'd be glad to hold the record with you Otto, btw i think i found a way to go over 500, i'll try to post it this very afternoon

@PlzBreakMyCampaign: if you are going to count that kind of build, you could just be shambler FoF and rise your Consitution as much as you wanted through summoning creatures with at will spells that deal electricity damage thus getting an AC as high as u want, or u could just pun-pun the AC you want, i assume we are not taking that kind of builds into account

I see. That's ok, as the new version won't have that problem, especially with losing the Contemplative level.

I guess that sort of alignment shift isn't as horrible. The more objectionable ones to me were always the really radical ones; LE to CG or something of that nature. And especially LE to CG back to LG then to NE. Now I just have to convince myself that it's okay to use it as well.

I'm pretty sure I can get over 500 now as well. I'll get with you via email or PM to discuss ways we can really cause it to take off.

Well for the above 500 build i was thinking, I have a budget problem again, but i can spare a feat, so i was thinking, can i take Mercantile Background? How would it work? 25% off in a couple items would be enough for me, and 25% off in many items, well i think i would be almost at 600 AC

I'd say to avoid the mercantile background idea.

Ok, like I said previously, all these types of works are building off earlier ideas.

I freely admit that many of the ideas have come from other people. The very first World Record AC build was done by Iku Rex. In those days of your (when the board was called 'Min/Max', people didn't use custom items for these sorts of attempts. After a time, I was able to beat Iku Rex's record, using some of the ideas he brought to the table. Again, this was done without custom items. As time passed again, many of the old world records began to fall via the use of custom items. In a spurt that saw me increase my world record charge damage via custom items, I also updated the AC build. That's the one you see linked in Funny Slaughter's thread. In that link, Urnsk came in and beat mine by nearly 100 points (even though Funny Slaughter mistakenly kept my name by the AC record). My attempt in the first post of this thread used many of Urnsk's ideas. Taerg mentions using some of those ideas to help his build out.

The exact same thing is going to happen in this go-around.

Now it's time to start the show...

Ideas for the Otto-Taerg uber AC build:

The first thing that strikes me is how perfect the Marrulurk is for this type of build. The 3 racial hit dice hurt, a lot, but it's hard to pass up that Dexterity, Wisdom and Charisma bonus. Unless something better comes along, I think that will have to be the race. Of course, Saint is just too valuable to drop.

First thing to note is that all ability scores become relevant for this build. You'll see why later on.

For 32 point buy:
Str: 0 points
Dex: 0 points (marrulurk provides a +6 to qualify for Dodge and Mobility)
Con: 0 points
Int: 3 points (combined with the +3 from age, this is enough to take Combat Expertise
Wis: 13 points (starting with a 17)
Cha: 16 points (starting with an 18)

It's important to note that with the polymorph spell, Strength, Dexterity and Constitution are reset to the base creature's score. With a planetar chosen, that's Str 25, Dex 19, Con 20. If we choose Polymorph Any Object, we also get to start with a 22 Int. These all become very important.

The first thing I want to mention about the classes is dropping the Fist of the Forest. Gaining Con to AC is neat, but we can use that high Con score in a different way.

This is what I have for a starting ability score set:
Marrulurk 3HD, +1 LA; +2 Str, +6 Dex, +4 Con, +0 Int, +6 Wis, +4 Cha
Saint +2 LA; +0 Str, +0 Dex, +2 Con, +0 Int, +2 Wis, +4 Cha

Strength: 23 (+6)
[Note: Marrulurk grants +2 racial bonus; age imposes a -6 penalty, none of which are included in polymorphed base statistics]
25 base (planetar)
+0 saint (unnamed)
+4 aura of vitality (morale)
-10 minute form (size)
+4 greater visage of the deity (unnamed)

I've probably missed some other bonuses or penalties to this score. That's okay. Right now I'm only going for a 21+, which is achieved.

Dexterity: 45 (+17)
[Note: Marrulurk grants +6 racial bonus to qualify for Dodge and Mobility; age imposes a -6 penalty, none of which are included in the polymorphed base statistics]
19 base (planetar)
+8 minute form (size)
+2 grace (sacred)
+6 nixie's grace (enhancement)
+4 aura of vitality (morale)
+2 greater visage of the deity (unnamed)
+4 assimilate (unnamed)

Constitution: 34 (+12)
[Note: Marrulurk grants a +4 racial bonus; age imposes a -6 penalty, none of which are included in the polymorphed base statistics]
20 base (planetar)
-2 minute form (size)
+4 aura of vitality (morale)
+4 greater visage of the deity (unnamed)
+4 assimilate (unnamed)
+4 mountain tattoo (unnamed)

Much like Strength, right now I'm just trying to get it to 21+.

Intelligence: 24 (+7)
[point buy of 3 and age are not factored into this score due to polymorphing]
22 base (planetar)
+2 greater visage of the deity (unnamed)

Like Str and Con, 21+ is all I'm looking for.

Wisdom: 45 (+17)
8 base
+9 point buy (13 points)
+6 marrulurk (racial)
+2 saint (unnamed)
+3 age (unnamed)
+5 tome of understanding (inherent)
+4 mountain tattoo (unnamed)
+4 greater visage of the deity (unnamed)
+4 assimilate (unnamed)

Charisma: 62 (+26)
8 base
+10 point buy (16 points)
+4 marrulurk (racial)
+4 saint (unnamed)
+3 age (unnamed)
+4 level (unnamed)
+5 tome of leadership and influence (inherent)
+4 charm domain (unnamed)
+4 righteous aura (sacred)
+4 assimilate (unnamed)
+4 Righteous Aura
+8 nixie's grace (enhancement)

Alright, understanding that I may have left some on the table, the scores before going any further into the really tricksy stuff are:

Str: 23 (+6)
Dex: 45 (+17)
Con: 34 (+12)
Int: 24 (+7)
Wis: 45 (+17)
Cha: 62 (+26)

Now for the really fun part.

Tattooed Monk 7 is pretty vital to this build working. We're going for
Monk - Wis to AC
Saint - Wis to AC
Balance Domain - Wis to AC
Arcane Duelist - Cha to AC
Sirine's Grace - Cha to AC
Every Character - Dex to AC

if it can be pulled off...

Mystic Wanderer - Cha to AC

That means we really need to pump up the Wisdom and Charisma. That also means we can afford to sacrifice Constitution to psychofeedback.

Using a manifester level of 33, via Use Psionic Device, we can achieve this.
First to drop by Constitution by 33 and increase Dexterity by 33.

New scores

Str: 3 (-3)
Dex: 78 (+34)
Con: 14 (+12)
Int: 4 (-3)
Wis: 45 (+17)
Cha: 62 (+26)

I know! But wait, there's more...

(This next part hinges upon an old C.O. trick, whereby a character uses Use Magic Device to emulate a class feature, such as Caster Level. The emulated caster level is the skill check-20. Now, I'm going to charge forward assuming that still works, mainly because I left the C.O. board years ago and don't know if it was proven false or not. ;) )

By totally scrapping the current cohort. "Gentlemen, we can rebuild him ... Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster."

What do I mean by "better"? We make him into a maestro of Use Magic Device. Why would we do that? Because staffs use the caster level of the character activating them!

Here's what I've come up with so far. Please note that I'm really not good at building uber skill characters.

Ok, here is the preliminary cohort ideas I had. As I mentioned, I'm not great at building a super-skill check build.

Marrulurk; 3 HD, +1 LA
Saint; +2 LA
Bard 3; inspire competence(+2 bonus to skill checks)
Exemplar 3; +4 to UMD, take 10 on UMD, bonus feat; magical aptitude bonus feat
Cleric 1; charm domain, one more domain...
Monk 1;
Tattooed Monk 2; Bellflower tattoo

I may be assuming too little by putting in a mere +11 Charisma modifier. A cohort should be equipped with gear appropriate to it's level, so maybe we can get this up higher as well.

Use Magic Device: 19 ranks, +11 Cha, +2 bard, +4 exemplar, +2 synergy, +19 item familiar, +1 stone of good luck, +30 custom competence item, +2 good hope, +2 nymph's kiss, +2 magical aptitude, +3 skill focus, +1 knight of stars = 98

That includes at least one level of exemplar, which also allows him to take 10 on UMD checks. Grand total is a UMD check of 108. This means he can emulate a caster level of 88.

Combine with Owl's Insight, stir, and you get a +44 bonus to Wisdom.

Str: 3 (-3)
Dex: 78 (+34)
Con: 14 (+12)
Int: 4 (-3)
Wis: 99 (+44)
Cha: 62 (+26)

As you can see, that right there (Dex to AC, Cha x3 to AC, and Wis x3 to AC) already gives a +244 bonus to AC.

At this point, we can actually get on with adding in the other bonuses.

I sent a letter to customer service about this next bit, but their response was something along the lines of 'That's not a 4ed question. Pissoff!' Ok, not exactly those words, but that's what form letters feel like to me.

Here's the next premise; In Tattooed Monk, there is nothing mentioned about taking the same tattoo more than once. So, we take Dragonfly, Mountain, Bellflower and ... Bellflower. This gives us 8 activations of Bellflower. The first 5 are to boost Charisma, and the next two boost Wisdom and Dexterity, respectively. (Due to the diminishing returns on Bellflower, the last one isn't used. Or we could use it to pump Int or Str if we really cared.)

1st Bellflower to increase Cha by 26; 82 + 26 - 8 = 100 (+45)
1st Bellflower to increase Cha by 45; 100 + 45 - 26 = 119 (+54)
1st Bellflower to increase Cha by 54; 119 + 54 - 45 = 128 (+59)
1st Bellflower to increase Cha by 59; 128 + 59 - 54 = 133 (+61)
2nd Bellflower to increase Cha by 61; 133 + 61 - 59 = 135 (+62)
2nd Bellflower to increase Wis by 62; 99 + 63 = 161 (+75)
2nd Bellflower to increase Dex by 62; 65 + 62 - 6 = 121 (+55)

Dex: 121 (+55)
Wis: 161 (+75)
Cha: 135 (+62)

Now, without any other modifiers, this grants a +466 bonus to AC.

I figure we'll be able to regain a lot of the previous bonuses. Perhaps not all, but certainly a lot of these.

Dodge Bonuses (these all stack)
+1 Dodge (feat)
+4 Dragonfly Tattoo
+5 Fighting Defensively, 5 ranks Tumble, plus Vest of Defense
+17 Improved Combat Expertise
+1 Boots of Speed
+2 Broadblade Short Sword
+2 Broadblade Short Sword
+1 Cautious trait

That's another +33 for a total of +499.

Miscellaneous Bonuses
# (source) [type]
+19 (Planetar Draconic Polymorph) [Natural]
+9 (Tortoise Shell) [Enhancement bonus to Natural Armor]
+8 (Minute Form)
+8 (Force Shield – Augmented) [Shield]
+1 (Monk/Tattooed Monk – level 8) [Unnamed]
+6 (Defending Broadblade Short Sword) [Unnamed]
+5 (Defending Broadblade Short Sword) [Unnamed]
+7 (Thicken Skin - Augmented)[Enhancement]
+13 (Inertial Armor - Augmented)[Armor]
+6 (Holy Star)[Circumstance]
+2 (Vambraces of Warding)[Sacred]
+3 (Recitation) [Luck]

Another +87 brings us up to +586

Now the tricky part is the cohort bonuses. I figure we can probably safely retain Combat Expertise & Improved Combat Expertise (+16 dodge), Allied Defense, Aid Another w/ Amulet of Teamwork (+3), and the other Amulet of Teamwork power (+5 competence)

That extra +24 makes the total bonus up to +610.

With the base of 10, this very rough sketch gives

[size=4]AC 620

Some other tricks that can be added in include psychofeedback for more than 20, especially if we Bellflower Tattoo up one of the other scores (like Strength) before doing this.

There you have it; the base for the Otto-Taerg Uber AC Build. I look forward to seeing what else can be done to improve on this number. Just imagine, the first world record AC build (Iku Rex's) was 134.

Like I said earlier, I'll post when I have the time, and when it's close to being wrapped up I'll put it into the opening post and put the one in there now into a spoiler.

Lots of great ideas there Taerg.

Cheers

Could you use Girallon's arms and get more Defending weapons?

Perhaps. That's sort of a gray area I shy away from. Similar to just having a bunch of allies use Aid Another and Allied Defense. Perhaps worth mentioning in the opening post.

If you're up for Dragon material and can afford a level, Battledancer would give Cha to AC a second time.

I'm not sure how you get +44 Wis out of Owl's Wisdom though. Or are you getting mixed up with another spell that grants a boost based on CL?

I'm not sure if we can do the Caster Lvl thing...

If that was doable then you could make a pseudo "The Word" character and without any room for discussion, getting about 100+ UMD, would theoretically give you 80+ CL, add staffs of the different words to this, and you automatically kill anything with less than 70 HDs...

But i was thinking along the same lines of Owl's Wisdom today and came with a way to get to 900 AC, of course it shouldn't be taken into account

the thing is in the items:

Lvl = 760k Budget

You can make a once/ day item li this...

Spell Lvl = 5
Caster Lvl = 800 (this is why it shouldn't be taken into account)
Contniuous Effect (1/day) Only usable by monks

Thats 5 * 800 * 1800 * .2 * .7 = 1008000

Mercantile Background for just one item... *.75 = 756,000

That's a +400 bonus to Wis = +200 Wis Modifier, Along with Monk + Saint + Balance Bonus That's +600 to AC = OVER 1000!!! (actually less than 1000 cause you lose a lot of bonuses from items you would have to lose, this could be optimized by calculating how much AC/gp you get with this, and reducing it to a caster lvl that would allow you to buy any other item with a higher AC/gp ratio, but since its a non-serious idea i won't take the trouble of doing it)

Anyways assuming a staff with a CL of 800 is ridiculous

I had a real idea when i said i could go over 500

Thing is like this, we're polymorphing in the Wrong "beast"...
I actually think that this form is not only the best for this build, but one of the most damaging i can imagine:

a Moonbeast!!!

It has 10 tentacles +50 Defending Bonus to AC...

Actually not it has 1 + 1/2 HD tentacles, that means
Shapechange CL 24 = 13 Tentacles = +65 Defending Bonus to AC..

But if you read its description it says that it actually has two identical sets of tentacles and that it uses the lower one as a means of locomotion. Now, if i can fly i don't need to use those for locomotion, so i get 26 Tentacle Rakes, now i want a Neclace of Natural Weapon (+1 Defending) * 26 it costs about 208k, and a wilding clasp to keep it while shifted another 4k switch GMW for GMF and you get +130 defending bonus to AC, okay you lose Nat AC since it ony has 7, and only has 15 Dex, but you end up gaining like +81 to AC.

About the effectiveness... with Giant size + Extended Reach (there is a feat which name i dont remember that gives you +5 feet for non-rigid attacks) + tentacle extensions you get to arround 50 ft. of range with 26 attacks per turn and each doing a damage of 8d6+Str, plus improved grapple, plus you can conduct grapples at -20 and not be considered grappling, thus you could hold up to 26 huge creatures... Btw... if i'm not considered grappling, could i grapple the same foe again with a diferent tentacle, and conduct the grapple at -20 again, then i could make 26 diferrent grapple checks all at -20 against the same person and if he fails even 1 then he is still grappled... there's a good chance he will roll a 1 in 26 rolls... and well thats only the first stone to build upon... Back to the AC...

The other ideas are with the cohort... Well you can get Wis another time to AC thanks to him...

Squire of Legend lvl 2: as a swift action, allows one ally within 30 ft., to use an extraordinary or supernatural ability usable once per day to be used another time, can't be used two times on the same person (it actually says that of the 2 times, funny thing is, i believe there's no way of getting that particular ability twice)

Well he can just let me use my balance domain ability one more time (with the +400 to Wis you would go over 1200 AC), anyways that's a nice +40 or so to AC, and the Paladin of the Golden Cup (Champions of Valor Variant lvl 3)
allows you to exchange your aura of courage for the ability to grant one ally next to you the same Dodge bonus that you get for the total defense action, for fighting defensivly or for using Combat espertise.

Then we get his expertise bonus another time thats around another +15.

(got it, another person with the same ability could use it on you to give the ability of using it one more time).

And even when not thinking about the uber UDM cohort i thougt about him using the staffs on himself to rise his own Cha he should be able to get at least a +20 bonus to Cha.

Btw, the Psychofeedback thing you always have enough str to use it up to 20, now are you sure i can use it more than once and affect the same stat? like -20 Str/+20 Con and again -20 Str/+20 Con? Taht could be ground breaking because of this:

The other build i mentioned a couple times was using a Dwarf as main race (yeah a dwarf) you can go gold dwarf so you don't get a -2 to Cha, i'm not gonna do the whole posting thing but i'll give the important stuff:

Lvls:

Mnk3/Clr2/Dusk1/ShantaoMonk1/Tat5/Deepwarden2/ArcD2/Contem1/Mystic1
(shintao is from OA)

Feats:

Hole - Iron Will
Flaw - Endurance
Flaw - Great Fortitude
Mnk1 - IUS
Mnk1 - Power Attack
1 - Dodge
Mnk2 - IBR (i think this or some other PA tree)
3 - Mobility
6 - Leadership
Shintao - Improved Grapple
9 -
12 - Combat Expertise (cannot get it at 9 since he is agging between tattoed and Deepwarden, also these long years made him change his views on the world, going from L/G to N/G)
15 -
18 -

Now Shintao Monk gives at lvl one the ability to once per day raise any ability score by 1d4+1 for 1 hour per lvl. This ability is similar to bull's strenght, Cat's grace, blah.

Similar but it doesn't say enhancement bonus, we could take into account the day he gets a +5 :P or just go with the +2 but then is a bad choice,
it also gives one feat from a list which includes IG and Combat Expertise
2 lvls of cleric because Balance domain lasts for 1 round/Clr lvl so you need the second to

Round X: Balance domain (2 rounds)
Round X (Cohort): Refresh balance domain ability
Round X+1: Balance domain again (2 rounds, plus the other one is still active)

Contemplative for Mystic Wanderer and as an added bonus +4 Family domain (Player guide to faerun says its +2 but dunno which one came out first)

Now deepwarden allows you to add your Con instead of Dex to AC, i was considering Psycofeeding Dex to Con once, but if it can be made multiple times that means, -Str/+Con plus -Int/+Con plus -Dex/+Con (this one is usefull since for every AC point you lose, you are gaining 2), that means like +100 to Con, which is like +80 AC (since you lose 20 from dex bonus), also for this build Giant size proves better than Minute form, and as an added benefit any spell that buffs either Str, Dex, or Int is because of psychofeedback a boost to Con and thus a boost to AC, you can go rocket high, thats why budget becomes a serius problem, well ppl i still have a couple more ideas, but in 4 hours i have to be waking up so i'd better go to sleep.

Btw some really neat ideas Otto...

As you can see the dwarf bild has many free feat slots, ideas are welcomed :D

i'll think otto's ideas, and make a proper build within these days, also looking for ideas for the cohort or most importantly to get more budget, cyaz

That trick with Holy Word et. al. has been around forever. That's not what we're doing in this thread. The UMD thing to increase caster level is one way, but excluding that bit of cheese we can actually use other methods of raising caster level to really boost up the AC. There are plenty of things that boost CL directly.

Even if the UMD thing is deemed too much of an interrupted loophole, or the CL boost doesn't work, there are plenty of other ideas to get the number up there. The Multiple Bellflowers, for instance, can do wonders.

You can do the defending thing if you want -- of course! who am I to say anything? -- but to me it just lacks elegance. Like I said, it's the same sort of feeling as just stacking a bunch of allies and use Aid Another (Nanobots).

I pretty much gave up on the charging thing. There are a few examples floating around out there. The Tempest/DM Denubis thread also contains mine. Someone else claimed to make a 'legal uber charge build', but failed to actually address a half-dozen objections that completely obliterates the build. I saw in your PM you've got another way to try. When you post it I'd love to at least take a look.

The same source rule means you can't get psychofeedback to increase a particular ability score more than once. A mistake I made in the first version (pre-edit) was to use it to increase Wisdom and Charisma. Now that was some big scores!

I realise now that my steff only has 25 charges...

crap hadn't thought of that, well i was looking for ways to wield wapon in the tentacles but the only non-arguable i found is via Gloves of Men which are ridiculously expensive, girallons blessing turn your hands into claws but no reference to tentacles, graft weapon says something about "any weapon you could wield in that hand", so cant use that either..., well maybe i'll just have to go with a 18 HD moonbeast via draconic polymorph, thus only having 20 tentacles, i can get to 22 with girallons blessing i would be losing 20 ac, oh well...

then it would be 1 Charge tortoise shell, 1 charge Owl's Wisdom 22 charges GMF
still one charge remianing (Due to the duration of GMF i can cast all of those spell even before the round by round preparation)

True enough, better to steer away from the controversial issues. The effect as such wouldn't be too large anyway.

Perhaps on the Battle Dancer.

The Wisdom bonus is from Owl's Insight (spell compendium), which grants an Insight bonus to Wisdom, not Owl's Wisdom that you linked to.

Just something from a fledgeling optimizer...

If you have access to Dragon Magazine material from issue 358 pg. 42-43, you could potentially add +2 ac from a mundane modification to your broadblade shortswords. Look at Perfect Balance for an additional +1 per sword. A simple mod for only +200 extra gp.

EDIT:
Also... not sure if you have a feat to spare... but there is also a possible bonus from two-weapon defence.

Two weapon defence is a shield bonus, thus it doesnt stack with Force screen which also provides a shield bonus.

About the feat you mentioned, I generally try not to use material from dragon magazine, otherwise 1 lvl of Battle Dancer would give us Cha to AC yet another time.

Btw, i may be doing a build incoporating these last ideas next week or so, but to tell the truth i stopped thinking about this build after posting my last ideas here.

I find the idea of Bellflower stacking with itself to be quite unfeasible.  You are basically using an enhancement bonus to feed an enhancement bonus to feed an enhancement bonus...and they all come from the same source.

Same source says the most recent effect just replaces the prior one, it doesn't check again, and certainly none of the effects can stack.

BTW, the mercantile trick doesn't work, because devices using caster levels over 20 use Epic rules and pricing, which goes up hideously fast.

Jesus fvcking christ, Aelryrinth.  Go back to college and take an entry level programming class.  After you do that, you can come argue "stacking" and "same source" as much as you want, but until that point I'd like it if you would kindly shut the hell up because you don't know what in the world you are talking about.
