| #1SIKBUZJul 28, 2008 18:37:21 | Hi guys, I'm in the process of building a grappler for LG. Im planning my character out and have done so to 9th level. Wood Elf Str 17 Dex 16 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 16 Cha 8 Levels and feats i have chosen are: 1 - Monk, clever wrestling, Stunning Fist (Monk), Improved Unarmed Strike (Monk) 2 - Monk, Combat Reflexes (Monk) 3 - Fighter, Close Quarters Fighting, Earths Embrace 4 - Monk, (+1 Str) 5 - Monk, 6 - Barbarian, Weapon Focus - Grapple 7 - Reaping Mauler, Improved Grapple (Reaping Mauler), Mobility (Reaping Mauler) 8 - Reaping Mauler (+1 Dex) 9 - Reaping Mauler, ??New Feat?? Which gives a +17 Grapple check.. +19 when raging. Are there ways to make this better, with better feats? Choices etc? Thanks!! |
| #2iconoplastJul 28, 2008 18:44:05 | Monk & Barbarian in the same build always give me pause. How are you pulling that off? |
| #3darksamuariJul 28, 2008 18:45:54 | Monk & Barbarian in the same build always give me pause. He brings up a firm point, look into the Ordered Chaos feat from one of the Fiendish Codex books. |
| #4SIKBUZJul 28, 2008 18:50:47 | Spoke to my GM about that.. Basically the story of my character shows he goes a little crazy due to his history. He finds out that his father is outcast from his village, his mother and sister taken captive and eventually killed by Orcs - hence the Barbarian, then the Reaping Mauler levels showing him losing his mind and focus |
| #5nanshorkJul 28, 2008 21:52:58 | Reaping Mauler = Bad. If you become larger than medium you lose the benefit of one of the feats that is it's pre-requisite, and so you lose are your benefits. The best way to grapple is through size increases. So no reaping mauler. Hereis a guide to help you out. |
| #6SIKBUZJul 28, 2008 22:23:50 | Wicked, will have a look!! thanks ![]() I am looking at the Reaping Mauler as it fits the mental guy background for my character.. He just goes nuts and grabs things!! ![]() |
| #7kurashuJul 29, 2008 0:25:39 | There's always the Half-Orc paragon if you want rage and monk. |
| #8orenmirJul 29, 2008 9:35:13 | Chaos Monk mixes well with Barbarian. Plus, you'll really prefer Flailing Strike over Flurry of Blows. Wood Elf is an interesting choice for a grappler, yet not optimized. Even a human is a better choice purely for the feat. Posting on the CO board, you will get plenty of responses claiming Reaping Mauler is a bad choice. I would suggest you lay out what parts of your build are for role-playing reasons and what parts of your build you'd like the CO board to optimize. Even a one level dip into Psychic Warrior just to grab Grip of Iron will help you. The feat Practiced Manifester will extend the length of that +4 bonus to your grapple check, and give you many more Power Points. Feats that increase your damage dice always help: Improved Natural Attack, Superior Unarmed Strike. If you want to be able to Stun while grappling, take this cool feat from Dragon Mag... Fear No Binds -- it allows you to ignore the -4 penalty when attacking during a grapple. Weakening Touch is a good Stunning Fist variant feat that can help a grappler. As already stated, the best way to grapple is to increase your size. You will be gimped by Reaping Mauler in that it requires you to stay medium. If you want to scratch that class, the flood gates will open with possibilities for your grappler build. Remember, you don't have to be a Reaping Mauler just because the guy is a little crazy. Fluff can fit into most any class. My suggestion: Chaos Monk 2 / Psychic Warrior X. |
| #9ithamarJul 29, 2008 10:46:17 | Actually, you still have the feat that is the pre-req of the Reaping Mauler PrC, you just cannot benefit from it. Some DM's will therefore allow you to retain the PrC abilities even while large size (or larger). Not sure if LG allows it, but the Bear Totem Barbarian from Unearthed Arcana is quite nice in my opinion, and it then allows fairly easy access into Fist of the Forest, or Bear Warrior, and then Warshaper... |
| #10anaurochJul 29, 2008 11:54:03 | I played a spiker (planar handbook) monk 11 / psionic fist 5 / reaping mauler 1 in a gladiatorial tourney once - he was a grappler. Psionic fist lets you benefit nicely from augmented expansion (huge size) and grip of iron is awesome as well (even though I chose the magic item which grants a +8 to grapple - gloves of titan's grip IIRC?). Get a monk's belt and improved natural attack (unarmed strike) and you'll do 4d8 base damage at 17th level. Don't take reaping mauler unless you really want to - in my case it was a prerequisite that you had to have a special signature move. It could be a special maneuver or a fighting technique of a PrC - therefore I took Reaping Mauler because grappling itself wasn't special enough. |
| #11robbypantsJul 29, 2008 11:57:47 | 6 - Barbarian, Weapon Focus - Grapple Unless I'm missing something, you can't take Weapon Focus(Grapple), as it's not a weapon. You can take it with the unarmed strike, but that still doesn't help you with grappling. |
| #12orenmirJul 29, 2008 12:01:46 | Unless I'm missing something, you can't take Weapon Focus(Grapple), as it's not a weapon. You can take it with the unarmed strike, but that still doesn't help you with grappling. Per the FAQ, you can take Weapon Focus to boost your grapple check. Although, it's not really worth it. +1 is a drop in the bucket -- might as well spend that feat on something that will net more effectiveness. Weapon Focus - Unarmed Strike will help you land your touch attack to start a grapple. It is better than choosing Weapon Focus - Grapple; but still, there are better feats out there for a grappler (unless Weapon Focus is a prereq for something). |
| #13davethemagicweaselJul 29, 2008 14:13:54 | Con 10 for a melee character is only one step above a suicide note. |
| #14orenmirJul 29, 2008 14:33:01 | Con 10 for a melee character is only one step above a suicide note. Good catch. Also... 16 Dex, for a grappler? No need, really. You'll lose your Dex to AC against others when in a grapple, so you might as well dump it a little. Assuming you rolled a 14 for Dex and a 12 for Con and a 16 for Wis... rearrange accordingly: Str = 15 (+2) = 17 Dex = 12 (+2) = 14 Con = 16 (-2) = 14 Int = 10 (-2) = 8 Wis = 14 Cha = 8 If you want to have some skill ranks, try this... Str = 15 (+2) = 17 Dex = 10 (+2) = 12 Con = 16 (-2) = 14 Int = 14 (-2) = 12 Wis = 12 Cha = 8 If you do decide to go Psionic, you'll want that 16 in Wis... Str = 14 (+2) = 16 Dex = 10 (+2) = 12 Con = 15 (-2) = 13 Int = 12 (-2) = 10 Wis = 16 Cha = 8 (Wood Elf is tough to work with for this build! The Dex bonus is unnecessary and the Con penalty is a big gimp. Sure you don't want to play a half-orc? Half-giant? Orc? Human? Goliath?) |
| #15robbypantsJul 29, 2008 15:32:50 | Per the FAQ, you can take Weapon Focus to boost your grapple check. Although, it's not really worth it. +1 is a drop in the bucket -- might as well spend that feat on something that will net more effectiveness. Huh. I guess you learn something new every day. I agree that it's not that potent. |
| #16carnivoreJul 29, 2008 15:52:41 | if you want Wood Elf and Reaping Mauler.... id suggest something like Ithamar suggested.... try this: Bear totem Barbarian variant BEAR TOTEM CLASS FEATURES A barbarian dedicated to the bear totem does not gain the standard fast movement, uncanny dodge, trap sense, and improved uncanny dodge barbarian class features, and instead gains the following abilities. A 1st-level bear-totem barbarian gains Toughness as a bonus feat. At 2nd level, a bear-totem barbarian gains Improved Grapple as a bonus feat, even if he doesn't meet the normal prerequisites. A 3rd-level bear-totem barbarian gains Great Fortitude as a bonus feat. Beginning at 5th level, a bear-totem barbarian gains a +4 bonus on grapple checks when raging. |
| #17amadithegreatJul 29, 2008 15:58:27 | Depending on the level, A binder can make for a good grappler. There is a vestige (Zagan) that will allow you to count as large for grappling, and gives constrict (2d6+1½strength, i believe.). In addition, at epic level there is the epic vestige that gives 2x your charisma modifier for grapple checks, which is purely awesome. With Earth's Embrace, that character can be a force to be reckoned with, but it really needs the epic vestige to be totally worth it. On a less related note: Druid, Wildshape into a snake, Win. |
| #18shubniggurathJul 30, 2008 2:33:40 | Well, since nobody did it before me, I am here to give you guys the official CO answer to 99% of the questions here. Druid You are aware that a druid can destroy any of these builds easily, right? We are talking about level 9, so a Human druid 9 with improved unarmed strike and improved grapple (and natural spell) as feats and a monk's belt Str = 8 Dex = 14 Con = 15+1 (level) Int = 12 Wis = 16+1(level) Cha = 10 wildshaped as a brown bear (STR 27=+8) will have a grapple check of 6 (BAB)+ 8 (STR)+ 4 (size) + 4(improved grapple)=+22 and will inflict 2d6+8 in grapple ...it can also use the bear's improved grab (so you don't waste a round getting into grapple with a touch attack) and will also have much better AC than the below build: AC=10+4 (monk's belt)+1 (DEX, bear)+5 (natural, bear) -1 (size)=19 and I have still 2 feats open and I bought just 1 magic item (the belt) |
| #19jha543Jul 30, 2008 7:35:22 | A melee/grappler/tripping build I have used a couple of times. Had a blast playing it. Melee'ed and tripped the big and strong brutes while grappled the weak :D I found it to be a strong overall build. But take notice that he has a alignment change at level 1 to 2 from lawful neutral to true neutral(or something close) due to the monk and barb alignment issue... Gotta check it with your DM first. You can always put the ftr levels between the monk and barb level to make the alignment change go over more levels... |
| #20hardcorecasualJul 30, 2008 10:02:24 | Well, if you can take a race with LA, I've always been fond of the idea of a Half-Giant Barbarian grappler. ECL 9 with 32 point buy would end up looking something like this, but it requires flaws so it may not work for your specific situation: Barbarian 1 Barbarian 2 Barbarian 3 Barbarian 4 Fist of the Forest 1 Fist of the Forest 2 Fist of the Forest 3 Reaping Mauler 1 Flaw: Improved Unarmed Strike 1: Power Attack 3: Great Fortitude (requirement for Fist of the Forest) 6: Clever Wrestling Reaping Mauler Bonus: Improved Grapple, Mobility Str: 18+2(levels)+2(racial) Dex: 8-2(racial) Con: 18+2(racial) Int: 8 Wis: 8 Cha: 8 Using the Bear-Totem alternate class feature from complete champion is preferred, but you'd have to ask your DM about whether or not you could use the Improved Grab ability to initiate a grapple against medium sized creatures, as it's not RAW. This, in total, will give you a grapple modifier of: 8(BAB)+6(Strength)+4(Size)+4(Improved Grapple) = +22, assuming no outward influences, such as buffs or items, and you can start a grapple after dealing damage with a melee attack against creatures medium sized or smaller. Pros: Solid grapple score, can wield large-sized weapons for when you're not grappling (3d6+str x 1.5 is fairly solid without being your primary focus), 40ft movement speed, can grapple after dealing melee damage, Con to AC. Cons: No armor, assuming the AC bonus of Fist of the Forest is interpreted as a direct variant of the Monk AC bonus class feature, low mental scores. Note: This build is mostly for fun. I've got a similarly built NPC in my campaign as a recurring villain's henchman, and he's been a blast to play. Edit: Also, if you want to avoid the Flaws, you could replace 1-2 levels of Barbarian with Fighter to pickup Power Attack or Improved Unarmed Strike. |
| #21orenmirJul 30, 2008 10:18:48 | Well, if you can take a race with LA, I've always been fond of the idea of a Half-Giant Barbarian grappler. If you're not going to play a PsyWar, there is absolutely no reason to take Half-Giant over Goliath. Even if you are playing a PsyWar, I would only take Half-Giant if I'm starting at level 1 or 2. |
| #22hardcorecasualJul 30, 2008 10:22:50 | If you're not going to play a PsyWar, there is absolutely no reason to take Half-Giant over Goliath. Even if you are playing a PsyWar, I would only take Half-Giant if I'm starting at level 1 or 2. I'm aware of that, I just don't happen to have a copy of Races of Stone (I believe thats where Goliaths from, I could be wrong) so I often forget it. Either way, that adds another +2 strength, so another +1 on the grapple check. Sorry about forgetting that one. |
| #23SIKBUZJul 30, 2008 16:08:50 | Good catch. Also... 16 Dex, for a grappler? No need, really. You'll lose your Dex to AC against others when in a grapple, so you might as well dump it a little. this is a Living Greyhawk Character therefore Psionics are out of the window ![]() Wood Elf is for the role-playing aspect. He's not a typical Elf - i made him 6'8'' and high weight, he uses a Maul instead of swords to keep with his angry, grind things into the ground side. I really wanted to use a Maenad but i don't believe they are allowed in LG either!! Reason for dex was for a better unarmoured AC (Monk) and to take Expert Grappler, from quintessential fighter, where you can add your dex bonus aswell as str to your grapple check - still to check if this is allowable in LG?? From what i've read Reaping Mauler isn't the greatest - 3 rounds to sleep or kill, he's more of an escaper of grappling than a bare hands killer.. Perhaps Justicar would be a better prestige class? To go large/huge and for the Hog-Tie feature? Then there is the option of a coup de grace.. EDIT: what is this "vestige (Zagan)"? What book is this from? Thanks for all your input guys!! |
| #24orenmirJul 30, 2008 16:15:38 | Reason for dex is to take Expert Grappler, from quintessential fighter, where you can add your dex bonus aswell as str to your grapple check No worries. Just be sure to let the CO board know of any 3rd party materials involved. Otherwise, we optimize with only Wizards' published material in mind. Better still, list all the sources you're allowed to use. Futher more - this is a Living Greyhawk Character therefore Psionics are out of the window Bummer. |
| #25maulornJul 30, 2008 21:25:25 | I would hella recommend looking into Locking Garrotes... Go strong in grappling and locking garrotes and you can move around putting locking garrotes on people and then once they are secure moving to the next victim. |
| #26SIKBUZAug 05, 2008 23:41:38 | Well, since nobody did it before me, I am here to give you guys the official CO answer to 99% of the questions here. Not entirely true.. Tweaking my stats slightly (not needing dex to be high), the build i had would give me Str 20, Dex 12, Con, 12, Int 8, Wis 16, Cha 8.. Grapple of BAB+8, Str +5, Adept Wrestling +1, Improved Grapple +4, Weapon Focus(grapple) +1 Wrestling your Druid while raged would give me a grapple check of +23 (clever wrestling +2, Rage +2) against your large Bear, and a dragons chain a further +2 (and 1d8+x1 1/2 Str constrict damage..) Thus +25 against your large druid/bear. Flurry of blows gives me 3 attacks per round. Now my attacks are grapple checks - not subject to the -2 to hit. I can use these to pin you and deal damage, when you are pinned you take damage from my Earths Embrace Feat, and if you are pinned for one full round my sleeper hold makes you unconscious for 1-3 rounds. Now my last feat i thought could be Ability Focus (Sleeper hold) and this would mean each round you are pinned you have a fort save DC 18 to be unconscious (each round because i maintain the hold/pin) and you take 1d12+7 damage from Earths embrace PLUS 1d8+10 constrict damage from the chain each time i grapple you to maintain the pin. You are unconscious (does this mean I win the grapple checks by default?) and taking damage - with no magic items.. Unless I am wrong? |
| #27SIKBUZAug 05, 2008 23:45:49 | I would hella recommend looking into Locking Garrotes... Good idea!! Will look into these.. Thank you!! |
| #28SIKBUZAug 05, 2008 23:59:42 | Thanks Orenmir.. I tweaked the build slightly to ignore the dex eg Quintessential Fighter Feat - this would be great but i don't know if i'd be allowed it. One question - Why does becoming large cancel out Reaping Mauler (RM)? I would have thought you dont forget how to wrestle even if you become large? You may not be able to apply clever wrestling (which means being medium or smaller) which you need to become an RM, but you wouldn't forget how to choke some-one.. I would agree it means you couldn't use clever wrestling but losing all the class abilities? Theres more to the RM than clever wrestling. Does this mean if your ability scores are drained you cant use feats associated with them? Btw Thanks for your help guys! |
| #29rebel7284Aug 06, 2008 0:26:36 | Thanks Orenmir.. Yes, yes it does. If you get hit with a ray of enfeeblement, you might be unable to use power attack. |
| #30orenmirAug 06, 2008 9:11:49 | Some DMs might allow it. But, RAW, if you lose the prereq for Clever Wrestling (by becoming Large), you lose the ability to use the feat. That feat is a prereq for Reaping Mauler -- if you lose the ability of the feat, you lose the abilities of the PrC. Some might argue against this logic; but, I do believe there is a general consensus on these boards that said logic is RAW (or at least RAI). |
| #31tshernAug 06, 2008 10:20:36 | Even a one level dip into Psychic Warrior just to grab Grip of Iron will help you. The feat Practiced Manifester will extend the length of that +4 bonus to your grapple check, and give you many more Power Points. More Warmind, less Psychic Warrior. Also, Practiced manifester doesn't grant power points, only effective manifester level. |
| #32orenmirAug 06, 2008 10:50:29 | More Warmind, less Psychic Warrior. I would argue that while Warmind is a great PrC for a meleer that wields a weapon, it is not an optimized choice for a grappler. The ability, AC, and DR bonuses are limited and can easily be replaced by powers the PsyWar can manifest. The pinnacle features of the PrC (Sweeping Strike and Chain of Overwhelming Forced) are attacks -- something that a grappler doesn't do. Also, Practiced manifester doesn't grant power points, only effective manifester level. This is, and has been, debated in many threads. In the end, check with your DM. |
| #33carnivoreAug 06, 2008 11:20:06 | I would argue that while Warmind is a great PrC for a meleer that wields a weapon, it is not an optimized choice for a grappler. Tshern is correct.... 10 levels of Warmind are better than 10 levels of PW... on several levels.... 2 levels of PW are all most would ever need or want(with very Few exceptions) notice the comparison: Psychic Warrior 10......BAB +7...saves +7 +3 +3 .... 27 PP / 10 powers known (PW list) 4th lvl Warmind 10 ..............BAB +10...saves +7 +7 +3 ... 70 PP / 6 powers known (PW list) 5th lvl Warmind also adds Far better Class abilities for Free :D |
| #34orenmirAug 06, 2008 11:53:31 | [b]notice the comparison: You make a very convincing point. But, you left some facts out... The tasty class abilities for the War Mind are unusable to an optimized grappler, since he never attacks. PsyWar gets 4 bonus feats in 10 levels. The earliest a grappler can get into War Mind is level 6. You can start out as a PsyWar (or take one level of Monk first). If you want to compare the classes fairly and chronologically, you need to add five levels of PsyWar. When your War Mind level is one, the PsyWar already has 5 or 6 levels under his belt. War Mind will never be able to keep up because the manifester levels won't ever stack. |
| #35carnivoreAug 06, 2008 16:32:14 | i just spent 30 minutes with a comparison post and these Boards ate it ..... idiot WoTC/Gleemax ![]() :headexplo :hoppingma ![]() if you want to run the math... compare a PW build of your choice to this: Kalashtar or Elan Ranger 1/ Monk 2/ Fighter 2/ Warmind 10 it will beat your PW 15 build in these areas: BAB Saves PP Class abilities Skills you will have a Hard time even coming close in a single area ... much less in all areas... if you dont believe me... do the math...also with Tashalatora(Warmind)... it functions as a 12th lvl Monk(AC, Unarmed Damage,Flurry of Blows) :D |
| #36orenmirAug 06, 2008 16:51:08 | BAB - PsyWar loses Saves - PsyWar loses Skills - off my radar, really PP - I'll have to do the math, but I bet they're close. Class Abilities - In general, yes, Warmind's are better than the 4 feats you'll get with PsyWar. But, we're talking about a grappler build -- Sweeping Strike and Chain of Overwhelming Force are useless. IMO, that tips the scale in this category to the PsyWar. That still leaves Powers Known, Manifester Level, and Maximum Power Level Known. I'm pretty sure PsyWar wins all of these, but I'll recheck the math. That sucks about losing your post. It's happened to me so many times in the past that I've started to "ctrl-a, ctrl-c" a lot as I type. |
| #37SIKBUZAug 06, 2008 17:43:23 | Some DMs might allow it. But, RAW, if you lose the prereq for Clever Wrestling (by becoming Large), you lose the ability to use the feat. That feat is a prereq for Reaping Mauler -- if you lose the ability of the feat, you lose the abilities of the PrC. I think the argument wouldn't surround the logic but more: is this what the creators of the class were thinking when they made the prereq of the class? Seems a little silly to make a class designed to be a "knock you out and choke you to death" then take away the biggest advantage for them. Sounds like it would be GREAT to be able to use psionics.. Grrr.. Have been thinking - could you take the anti-giant feats as a gnome and be a good grappler against larger creatures? You could be small, getting bonuses against medium and larger creatures.. A garrotte would allow you to grapple Large/etc creatures yet making you harder to hit? Any experience with this here? |

| #40SIKBUZAug 06, 2008 21:55:23 | thats WoTC:rolleye2: .... they must have had the same Administrators who are responsible for the way these Forums Run, Design the Reaping Mauler PrC Haha awesome! They dont really bump up grappling but could be fun to confound larger creatures Garrottes are in Song and Silence - i would only use these to grapple creatures who are more than two sizes bigger than my character |
| #41SIKBUZAug 07, 2008 1:45:17 | Question.. What class gives sneak attack while giving max BAB?? |
| #42chilepepperAug 07, 2008 2:48:46 | I think alot of people are missing one MAJOR point. This is a Living Greyhawk character. That means no Psionics, no 3.0 (no garrotes), no D20 (Quintessential everything is out), as well as ALOT of other things suggested. |
| #43kurashuAug 07, 2008 2:57:19 | Question.. What class gives sneak attack while giving max BAB?? It's not full BAB, but swashbuckler + rogue + daring outlaw. 19BAB. |
| #44SIKBUZAug 07, 2008 6:01:33 | Very true chilepepper. Any ideas on how to grapple anything over large size? I was more thinking along the lines of for levels after lvl 9.. Sneak attack against pinned characters - eg pin character, then do an attack against the pinned character - because they are pinned they should qualify for sneak damage.. I figured something like Avenging Executioner would be good for levels after 9?? But doesnt have the best BAB |
| #45orenmirAug 07, 2008 8:53:34 | I believe there is a Locking Garrote in the Dragon Compendium (3.5). @ Carnivore: I'll save continuing the PsyWar vs. War Mind debate for another thread. You make some good arguments, and might have me beat! I haven't had the time to do the math yet. I'll come for you if I feel I have a leg to stand on. ![]() ![]() |
| #46carnivoreAug 07, 2008 15:17:37 | Question.. What class gives sneak attack while giving max BAB?? a very nice PrC: Nightsong Enforcer(thief trained to work in a team)(CAdv p60) :D |

| #48orenmirAug 07, 2008 15:34:05 | BTW, you dont have a link to the Dragon Compendium ? Uh, no. Is it OGL and online somewhere? ![]() |
| #49carnivoreAug 07, 2008 15:41:01 |
i dont know .... i just havent seen it anywhere .... and was hoping someone had it somewhere online;) :D |
| #50orenmirAug 07, 2008 15:47:53 | Lots of stuff is online. I don't think it's all legal, though. My suggestion is to search. Everybody can do that. What's the harm? I don't think that's illegal. Righteousness is over-rated! Even on the internet. |
| #51SIKBUZAug 07, 2008 16:13:13 | by all means, any time you would like... i will help with the comparison I'll try and find one.. And cheers for the class - i was thinking of using Justicar for the hog tie.. |
| #52world_slider_dupAug 08, 2008 15:09:46 | Locking Garrote would be nice cause one of the biggest draw backs to grapples is non-grappled enemies coming in on ya. With the garrote you would get it on, get it locked, and move onto the next. Guess ya just gotta see if it is in a ooooo...3.5 source. |
| #53chilepepperAug 11, 2008 18:53:53 | Dragon Compendium (3.5) has the Garrote Ring, but doesn't have a locking garrote. While it is a 3.5, it's not LG accessible. I'm sorry I can't offer up any other help. |
| #54SIKBUZAug 11, 2008 20:00:15 | Not a problem chilepepper I think it would come down to the GM making a decision on this - anyone can pick up some wire/cord and strangle someone/thing. Why this would be any different in LG i dont know. (Justicars can hog tie - why couldn't someone use a piece of cord to choke their opponent?). |
| #55chilepepperSep 06, 2008 2:02:51 | The reason LG makes a difference is access is very limited. Yes you can probably pick up some wire and hope the DM let's you choke someone. However, you can't dip into a 3.0 source, or a 3.5 source you don't have LG access, and buy a licking garrotte or a garrotte ring. |
| #56WyvernhandSep 06, 2008 3:16:44 | Did you check in the LG build compendium? I believe it was kept somewhere over in the RPGA section of the forums, but with the reorg, I dunno where it is anymore. Maybe do a search? I think it was maintained by Mommy_Was_An_Orc. Then you can just do a quick scan through that thread for an LG grappling build. The problem with this, however, (other than LG ending in about 3 months) is that depending on regions, lots of stuff tends to be large+ after about level 4. Some regions are known for having mostly humans and humanoids as foes, but you still run into an aweful lot of large-huge animals, constructs, magical beasts, outsiders, and even some huge undead. Grappling in LG just doesn't scale well enough to really do it well. You'd be best off just finding a big stick and whacking it till it stops moving, then maybe grab on to it if that's really your thing. Bummer I know, but what can you do... |
| #57rashidaSep 06, 2008 10:28:21 | if you can use Champions of Ruin ( FR stuff ) i suggest this awesome prc: Black Blood Cultist. It gives you natural weapons, bonus feats for grapple plus Rake ( full attack with natural weapons while grappling ) and Rend ( more damage when you hit with both your claw attacks ) edit: oh no waith, didn't read that you are legal good, the level of barb. made me think you changed your alignment :P you've to be chaotic neutral to enter this prc |
