| #1WeezelAug 07, 2009 2:05:10 | Started trying to work out a mid-level build for a pouncer with the Gravetouched Ghoul template (and possibly Evolved Undead template too) that made the most of it's bite/claw/claw on a charge. This is not for a specific game at the moment, so any/all books are ok although no 3rd party material please. 32pt buy stats, no flaws (traits are fine however). Requirements; Pounce with natural weapons High save DC for paralysis with natural weapons (which means good charisma) Able to deal decent though not nessissarily game-breaking damage on charge Fills at least 2 non-combat roles (scouting, traps, face, etc) Mobility also helpful due to focus on melee/charging Some ideas I had so far; Aquatic Orc as the base race allowing access to paladin sub levels (aura of awe), combine with high charisma, Frightful Presence feat. The aura gives -2 to opponant saves vs fear, and the fear effect is a debuff for their save vs paralysis. This can be combined with Fearsome armour, maxed intimidate and Monsterous Mein feat gained via Otyugh Hole location just to add more options in combat. Adding some charge multipliers to get good but not fabulous damage from natural weapons -- Leap Attack, Heedless Charge, Battle Leap are all possibilities. Also using Rhino's Rush probably in a wand... originally though of wand chambers but is there a way to use the wand and still attack with both hands? Any/all ideas and suggestions welcome -- classes, features, equipment, PrC classes etc... |

| #3WeezelAug 07, 2009 3:19:54 | Class-wise, see Hood. I've taken a trip through the hood looking for info already (thanks for the link anyhow) ;) What I need is some ideas that will synergize better with the paralyzing attack and potentially high attributes a regular hood wouldn't have (like high Cha bonus for example). Evolved Gravetouched Ghoul will be granting +4 str, +4 dex, +2 int, +4 wis, +4 cha. I do realize that using natural weapons is definately going to be dishing out a lot less damage than iterative attacks (plus whirling frenzy etc) with a 2-handed weapon using all the various damage multipliers. I'm more thinking that the build will have to be able to do some damage because I can't rely on being able to paralyze all opponants, especially at higher levels. |
| #4WeezelAug 07, 2009 5:42:36 | OK been working on this for a while now... looking a bit better but still needs improving... just an outline so far not factoring in any gear. Evolved Gravetouched Ghoul Lesser Aasimar (+3 LA) STR 20 (16 +2 evolved +2 ghoul) DEX 12 (8 + 4 ghoul) CON -- INT 12 (10 + 2 ghoul) WIS 22 (16 + 2 race + 4 ghoul) CHA 22 (16 + 2 race + 2 evolved + 2 ghoul) 1. Swordsage 1 Battle Jump, Quick to Act +1, Discipline Focus(Weapon Focus) 2. Swordsage 2 AC Bonus - Wis to AC 3. Psi Warrior 1 Up the Walls, Power Attack 4. Barbarian 1 Lion Totem - Pounce 5. Psi Warrior 2 Leap Attack 6. Marshal 1 Unholy Toughness, Skill Focus: Diplomancy, Minor Aura - Over the Top 7. Swordsage 3 8. Swordsage 4 Disipline Focus(Insightful Strike) 9. Swordsage 5 Ability Focus: Paralysis, Quick to Act +2 10. Swordsage 6 and so on... I'm sure this can be improved a bit, but the basics are there... Wis (+6) insight bonus to AC Cha (+6) bonus to damage on charges Cha (+6) bonus to hp per HD Paralyses with save dc = 18 + 1/2 HD on all natural attacks and of course... Fast Healing, Turn Resistance, some kind of SLA from Evolved. Thinking of trying to add Spellstitched as well but I believe no reasonable GM would let me use it without paying and that would cost almost 50k gold ![]() Would this perhaps be better with Crusader or Warblade instead of Swordsage for better BAB ? I am also tossing up for the barbarian level if it's worth using Whirling Frenzy as it only lasts 3 rounds (undead have no Con bonus). This could be swapped for a favoured enemy (Unearthed Arcana) which possibly could be used to take Arcane Hunter for a general bonus. Also, it seems worth having paladin or ranger in the mix just for access to wands of Rhino's Rush but I haven't been able to come up with a way to use it and still get both claw attacks on a charge, except for dropping the wand which isn't very practical. As always... thoughts and ideas all welcome :D |
