| #1pbarclayApr 12, 2008 21:01:58 | Has anyone tried a Scout build using the Nightblade of Arvandor (BoED)? The item is a longsword which gives as many ranged touch attacks as you would have ranged attacks* as a standard action. Multiple attacks as a standard action is a classic goal of the scout, and this item appears to excel at that. * the wording of the sword is pretty unclear. It's pretty strongly implying that it's "as many ranged attacks as you would have on a full attack," as you never normally have more than one ranged attack on a standard action. But, there's no way to know for sure. So, the question becomes: How do you get as many ranged attacks as possible? Rapid Shot plus TWF is one option. Taking the whole TWF tree gives you 8 ranged attacks. Rapid Shot gives you a 9th, and haste would give you 10. But, are more possible? Scout 16/Ranger 2/Highland Stalker 2 could be a build for this (enough favored enemies to not worry about crit immunity, plenty of skirmish damage, and 16bab), but it certainly isn't fully optimized. Some feats to play with here (12, as you're probably Human). Even after the TWF tree, Point Blank, Precise, and Rapid, and Swift Hunter and Improved Skirmish, you've got 4 left. You might want something that gave you a bunch of knowledge skills as class skills and go Knowledge Devotion. Also, Mage Slayer and Pierce Magical Protection seem good for debuffing (first round, shoot everyone in the room and wipe out their ac bonuses from spells). Or, maybe go CHA-based and take some Paladin for the saves and go slippers of battledancing (scouts have awful, awful saves). Anyway, I'm sure there are tons of ways to use this. |
