Hi there everyone!

I am reaching out to ya'll for some ideas! I am no new player, I've been playing D&D since I was 9 (I'm 32 now), but It's always nice to hear from other experience players. So, here is the deal:

We are playing D&D 3.5 and we use our own campaingn settings.  First some information about how some things work in our campaing.

1. Half-elves are very discriminated as a race, by Humans, Elves and Eldars (Eldars is the race Elves descend from. They are proud, immortals that think that are above any other race. To them a half-elf is an abomination, its like the son of your grandfather with your sister, got it?).

2. Drows are a product of a ancient High Arcana ritual that took place thousands of years ago during the War of the Light. This ritual created a permanent effect that made so that every Elf or Eldar that betrayed would have their skin turned black, they would be very sensitive to light and all that Drow character traits. Its like a damnation for their betrayal. The effect of this ritual is ongoing till the present day, but the drow became a race itself.

Allright, I want to create a new character, a half-elf that is tired of being treated like ****. He strongly believes half-elves deserves to be treated with respect, that they must be treated as a race itself and not a hybrid, or cross-breed of any sort. He believes they need to have their own culture, language, traditions and even their own racial God. So he wants to make a ritual - like the one that created the Drows - so that the breed between a human and an elf would either be a human or an elf, but never a half-elf. Half-elves can only be born from other half-elf parents!  Does that make any sense? I hope so, english is not my first language.

That is the character concept I want to build the customization over. I'll start at level 12.

So, I need suggestions of builds that fits the character concept, that fits its purpose in the campaign! Any ideas?

Really, the ultimate goal works with any and all classes that lead to epic spellcasting, subject to the DM approving your ritual in the end, because epic spellcasting is really the only way I can see this working (in the absence of Unearthed Arcana's rituals, but UA is not amongst your books allowed). That means any class that gets you past 9th level spells in the end would work if your DM plays along.

For more details, we'd need to know the character better. We know what he wants to do, but not really how. Does he want to achieve it by focusing on 'blood' in its literal and figurative use ('bloodlines')? You might go with Blood Magus for flavour (though not for much else). Does he want to get followers who heed his words? Then Evangelist might work, although the class is not that strong and doesn't advance spellcasting. Does he think clerical magic is more likely to work than arcane, or the other way around? Does he try to create this ritual by focusing on himself (Contemplative)?

We know a few basics about what it means to him to be a half-elf (and, with that in mind, it might be nice if you could convince your DM to allow you Races of Destiny, which has a PrC for half-elves who are fed up with being seen as impure by both parent races), but we don't know how that affects his daily life and short- and mid-term goals. All we have to go on is that he wants to create a mighty ritual - and that he wants to do so by adventuring, not by holing himself up in an arcane library: but unless you define people by their ultimate goals, we do not know much about him.

Hope this helps somewhat.

I'm seeing plenty of 3e splatbooks in there (including several that include some awfully-designed abilities, such as Sword and Fist's Knock-Down (guaranteed autotrip simply by dealing 10 or more damage) and Masters of the Wild's Power Critical (declare a single attack to be an automatic critical)). These will be more problematic than useful, though.

There's not a lot out there uniquely for half-elves mechanically; the best I can think of are all Eberron-specific (a setting where the half-elves already are a distinct race - they still occur through elf/human pairings, but they're much more prevalent in established half-elven families - one of which has a continent-wide monopoly on magical aid for agriculture and for sea and air shipping and transport, which makes them an economic powerhouse on par with other campaign's royalty). All of the others are in Races of Destiny, and none of them would support your specific goals. This is disappointing, but it's also freeing, since it means you can try just about anything (even if none of it will specifically reflect your heritage).

(Edit: There is an exception. Races of Destiny includes a sidebar pointing out that half-elves should have the human and elf subtypes instead of just the Elven Blood ability, meaning they count as both human and elf. However, you won't be able to take advantage of this with the books you have available!).

As Syltorian says, actually accomplishing your long-term goal is a simple matter of one Epic spell, which simply requires you reach level 21, have access to 9th level spells, and maximum ranks in Spellcraft and one of Arcana, Nature, or Religion. So one decision is made for you - you're playing a spellcaster with 9th level spells (wizard, cleric, druid, archivist, sorcerer, favored soul, spirit shaman, dread necromancer, warmage, beguiler, and even healer can all do this, but not all of them are in your allowed books).

Really, all you need now is a full spellcaster build that seems fun to play, doesn't require any specific race ability, and works with those books. Of course, since spellcasters can do anything, wanting to play "a spellcaster" is about as useful at narrowing things down as giving one's address as "Planet Earth" would be.

Thanks for the HUGE help everyone!

I have decided to go as a Focuclan Lyrist (not sure if the spelling is right). Any thoughts about the build? I've read the Lyrist handbook-ish on the forums but I am having a hard time figuring out witch one fist better the characters goals.

Just as a clarification, the goal the character wants to achiev does not require him to be directly involved in the ritual itself, as one of the casters. I can get people that agrees with his philosophy, with his idea and get them to do it, but I'd like to be as involved as I possibily can!

Thanks again!
