| #1sandybelleJun 03, 2010 14:34:04 | So, I've done my first foray into a dnd 3.5 game that pitted my against my fellow players, along the usual suspects of traps and monsters in a huge dungeon. Characters start at level 5 with a key (out of a limited pool of keys), you must collect 6 keys to pass by the last door and exit the dungeon and win the game. My first character was a swordsage 4/rogue 1. She went on to be extremely successful, so much so that I attained a level (taken in SS). Now I don't know if it was due to sheer luck (as some people insinuated) since I think I used my skills and environment to the max. However, My end was due to sheer luck (imo), where a barbarian got two hits on me in a row even though I used every single possible penality on his ass! So I decided I want to make my next character not dependant on luck! What type of characters do not depend on luck much? I'm thinking some type of very high AC character in addition to being a caster. Perhaps a Cleric? Healing yourself is very important in this game as well imo. Please help. We can use any official 3.5 book. I own the core, tome of battle and libris mortis. But using others is available to me through my friend. There is only one thing that is a staple for my characters: Race = Human (half elf is stretching it) |

The reason I say this kind of character takes little luck, is that all of his attacks are area effect, so the only one rolling saves here is your DM (or in your case fellow players as well). Play as a race with a Con bonus, and maybe even throw Dragonborn on top of that (i.e. Dragonborn Mongrelfolk for +6 Con). Take entangling exhalations, ability focus (breath weapon), etc. (There is a handbook somewhere around here to read) The class is pretty SAD, focusing only on Con and secondarily on Cha (if you even use the offensive invocations) so your HP, DCs on breath abilities, and saves will be high. BaB and weapons are pretty much useless, so although they get low armor proficiencies you could even take really heavy armor and not worry so much about the nonprof. penalty to Attack bonuses. Sorry for the jumble of text. Wrote this in a hurry, and I hope it helps. Edit: Just read that you have to be a Human. Might not be that bad, as human is always good, but that lack of Con bonus will hurt. |

As I said, I need to be able to kill stuff without having to rely on much luck, have high survivabilitiy, and be able to recover lost hp (Something I could do as a sword sage) Thanks in advance. |

As mentioned, I need to be able to heal and do damage. (Dealing damage is important as well) I'm also thinking of a warblade or crusader that uses a spiked chain and mobility maneuvers. |
