Just started a new campaign (3.5), decided to create a "gish" type character. Levels are:

Pal2/Sorc4/Spellsword1/AbjChamp3

49k to work with.

DM won't allow mage armor to work with Abjurant Champion, so I'll be needing armor. I was thinking a mithril twilight +2 breastplate would work well. Then again, that's also 13k. I'd also like to get a cloak of charisma +4 to make my charisma a nice tasty 22, which is 16k. Other than that, i've got no clue.

Any other thoughts? Am I going about this totally wrong? Or do I just need to buy the magic item compendium? Lol.

Is this a brand new character? How much room to alter is there?

You may wish to consider the Duskblade class from the PHBII, much more effective Gish. If your DM will allow it, you could also use a ToB base class, get more caster-esque abilities through that, and then snag Jade Phoenix Mage as a Prestige Class.

Duskblade and JPM are great Gish classes, both offer melee capability along with casting, and the latter provides for martial abilities as well. Also, the Armoured Mage Duskblade class feature progressivly erases spell failure chance. Starts with light armour, and moves on from there. I'd like to note that a second level swordsage class feature allows you to apply your Wis mod to AC.

I'd keep your current class build because of all the charisma boni. For armor I'd go with either githcraft mithril brestplate +2 (10% ASF, 8.5 K), or a githcraft mithril fullplate +1 of twilight (10% ASF, 15K) depending on your dex. If you can't get githcraft, thistledown padding will work to bring down the ASF.

Alrighty, I'll be answering the questions in order they were posed, as thoroughly as possible.

Inarai:

Yes, this character is brand spankin new, fresh for a new campaign. There's all the room in the worlds to alter, but I'd like to keep the general idea of the character the same.

I'm not too familiar with the Duskblade nor the Jade Phoenix Mage, but I'll look into them.

Carnivore:

Stats are as follows

Str:14
Dex:16
Con:16
Int:11
Wis:8
Cha:18

You can see why I chose paladin and sorceror.

The party is made up of a level 10 Marshal, level 10 Psionic Warrior, and then me. Small party, yeah, I know.

The adventuring will be pretty spread out, from plains to forests to mountains and dungeons, im sure.

Spells:

1st: Shield, Prot. from evil, magic missle, true strike, charm person
2nd: Bull's strength, Mirror image, Combust (spell compendium)
3rd: Hold person, vampiric touch
4th: improved invisibility.

All can be changed however, as the character isn't official yet.

Eardatch:

Where is the Githcraft material found? I've never heard of it before.

Where is the Githcraft material found? I've never heard of it before.

I believe it's in the DMG II. It's about 600 gp(?) and adds a +1 unnamed bonus to concentration checks in addition to -5% ASF.

With that dex I'd go with the fullplate for a +9 armor bonus, unless you hate the idea of having a speed reduction.

Duskblade: Only get spells up to fifth, however, you get spells within that progression that take other classes longer, such as chain lightning at fifth, not eighth. You also get some very, very, very sweet class features. Arcane Attunement lets you use some handy distraction spells as spell-like abilities; Arcane channeling let's you make your touch attacks for melee touch spells through your melee weapon. Quick Cast is like Quicken Spell without raising the spell level, and Armoured mage erases Arcane Spell failure chance, at first for Light armour, and later on for Medium armour and Heavy sheilds. It's designed as a gish, essentially. Even gives you a fulll BAB progression, which is nice, and it uses a d8 as it's hit die.

So is the Jade Phoenix mage. You'll want to take at east one level in a martial adept class or you'll be spending all kinds of feats to qualify, but, this is another one of those classes designed as a gish. Arcane Wrath is very useful(Think Arcane Strike, but better), you can cast quickened or empowered spells after martial strikes, the stances it grants are useful, especially if you employ a lot of fire spells, and the tenth level ability can only be described as OMGWTFBBQ.

You should also look up the "Practised Spellcaster" feat.

My advice: Rearrange stats to STR11, DEX16, CON14, INT18, WIS16, CHA8. Then, multi-class as swordsage/duskblade, and take the Weapon Finesse feat. Most weapons swordsages favour are light, mostly slashing types, and that high WIS helps you take advantage of their AC Bonus with applies your WIS to AC while in light armour - giving this character, at swordsage 2, 4 points AC from stats. Get Desert Wind Dodge(Not Dodge), as it's essentially a dodge feat that applies if you move, and to attacks from any creature, not just one.

So it looks like i'll be sticking with the character build i've already got since I told my DM earlier and he built part of the adventure around my classes and such.

Spell changes will definitally be considered, even though I feel like im cheating when I use polymorph, and Im not exactly sure how the rules work for the spell.

It looks like i'll be going with the mithril githcraft fullplate of twilight +1, what a mouthfull.

That'll be about 15k gone, so in addition to the +4 charisma item that I somehow feel is necessary, we have 18k to play around with. Anything that would just be kickass for my character? Anything that i'm just totally missing?

Amulet o' health +2 (4k), Gauntlets of ogre power +2 (4k), ring o' protection +2 (8k) 2k in scrolls and such. Good luck.

That puts you at 24 AC, 31 with shield up. You could ditch the ring (it's overpriced anyway) and get the lesser deflect (lv 1?) spell from the PHBII for a +4 deflect bonus as a swift action when necessary (it's normally +1 but your AbjChamp boosts it).
