I need the cost of a magic item im trying to make.

If any of you have read the R.A. Salvatore Series 'The Sellswords' featuring Artemis Entrerie and Jarlaxle Baenre, these items are from those books.

The first item is a small magical statuette of a dragon. You whisper a color of a dragon to it, and its eyes change color to match the color you whisper. Then you place it over a doorway or an entrance, and if someone goes through the doorway without saying the correct color, then a Breath Weapon of the correct color breathes forth from the dragon, damaging the person who failed to say the color.

Now, it said in the book that it has the breath of an ancient dragon, which is listed at 20d4, so im going with that.

How much would this item cost?

And the other item is Charons Claw, Entreries Magical Sword. It has numerous abilities, to many to list effectivly. So im asking those who have read the books, what would the item cost be?

Thanks for all the help.

If you look in the DMG the cost for commend word items (i'd count it as that) is spell levelxCLx1800 gp. If there is a spell that deals 20d4 damage (or 1d4/Cl whatever), you could use that. maybe put a cost bonus on it because of the bypass word thingy.
I cant help you with the sword since i haven'r read the books.

I didn't read the books, so have no idea about the second item.

For the Dragon trap I suggest just using the Magic Trap rules in the DMG: Cost for an automatic recharge magic trap is spell level * caster level * 500 gp

It being portable shouldn't affect cost.

Example of what it could look like:
Empowered Dragon Breath Trap; spell level 6, caster level 20.
cost: 6*20*500=60000 gp
deals 1.5*10d8 damage (~67.5) of several damage types, or impose some kind of status effect, depending on color chosen.

You can leave out the Empower feat or use other metamagic for variation.

Definitely take a look at the Dragon Breath spell in the Spell Compendium, it's perfect for this.

You can leave out the Empower feat or use other metamagic if you want to vary damage (and cost).
