Help! Gestalt Game L6/7 healer needed

May 20, 2009 0:36:37 Hi guys. I've been away for awhile, so bear with me as I'm not up on current optimization trends. I'll be sitting in a game this weekend, probably as a one-off, though it might be frequented in the future. The power level's quite high; apparently they nearly killed an adult Black Dragon in the first round. The characters range from 7th through 9th; I'll probably be coming in at 6th or 7th. Some form of healing would be nifty.

The party consists of the following:
Warblade/Rogue/Warshaper Troglodyte Werelepoard (CN)
Earth Elemental/ranger (CG)
Wizard/Archivist (Neutralish)

Perceived Party Role:
I'll probably be healing, as well as doing some Turning of the Undead (Turn Undead can be avoided if the party could fly (Half-Fey?) but some folks can't...

I'm going to be a good or neutral character. As I normally I DM and I've never done Gestalt I'm a bit out of my depth. Character creation rules are as follows, and we'll be playing in Faerun.

80 pt buy, 1 point per stat point, min of 8 max of 18 per stat pre-racial/template/whatever
Max HP
If you have a LA, you can just apply it to one side of your Gestalt.
(Potential for multiple LA with LA-buyoff rules from UA, though I'm NOT sure that will be allowed.)
If you have a LA (pretty much everyone does) then it is at half it's normal value. I.E. Half-Celestial is not +4 LA but +2.

Anywho, I'd muchly appreciate some magic-working. Everything that pops to my mind is either 'Ur-Priest' this or 'Ur-Priest' that. Maybe a Saint something? Thanks in advance for your efforts!

May 20, 2009 3:25:37 If you really wanted to be elite you could try an Artificer/Factotum combo and nova your inspiration points for a bunch of extra actions to use all those fancy healing items you can make as an artificer.

Edit: Another interesting option at least to me would be to make a warlock/hellfire warlock/something divine/Eldritch disciple build. Eldritch Disciples can turn damage from their blasts into healing and with a chain blast shape or something of that sort combined with the extra damage from hellfire warlock you're going to be healing a lot of damage. Just be sure to take a way to mitigate the damage. If your dm allows such things you might also take a bloodline or the legacy champion class. Both of these boost the hellfire damage beyond what is normally possible at a rate of 2d6 per level. So by level 20 it's cheezy but you'll be dishin out mad healz.

it is only recommendet by UA not to do it ... but since one side of the char is rather "non gestalt" whereas the other is only a bunch of templates, that should be ok ...

I need to work on my communication skills; what should my next levels be? I think they are allowing prestige classing to only apply to one side of the build. Where would you go from there, Carnivore?

In addition to the very silly stat adjustments, I snag flight from Half-Fey, qualify for that online charisma-to-archery feat if we go with the first build, pick up Power Resistance 10+HD from Phrenic...oh yes, life is good. Beautiful build. :: Rubs his hands with glee ::

Questions that have arisen:
Back in the day Half-Dragon was considered a waste of LA; have things changed dramatically? I tracked down Half-Dragon (Force) in my copy of RotD; is it just the breath weapon that makes it uber? Should I pick up the feat that allows me to breathe every 1d4 rounds?

Half-Celestial...gets more wings, some nifty spell-like abilities, and such...now, I was wondering...would that Magic-Blooded + Phrenic trick work here, making 1/day spells/abilities 3/day, and adjusting my CL/ML = to my HD for all those abilities?

Would Saint make more sense in there, or would that just be silly?

Where would I progress from here? The pewpew side would get more clericness//warlockey goodness from Eldritch Disciple...I don't own Complete Mage (now that 4e is out I'll probably be able to complete my collection on the cheap...) but IIRC there's a lost caster level...at the end, is it?

I've very much loving both the Hellfire Warlock (which I'm also failing to find in my books; I own it but I'll check the lists compendium later) and the ED, but I think from a powergamer nerfbatside I'm getting that gooshy feeling inside. =D

If we went pure CC then obviously the Half-Dragon is nice, I'd feel almost obligated to take the breathe-at-will feat. But Gestalt seems to be absurdly feat-starved, even with Cleric-feat-cheese. Oh well. If we went with the Warlockey niftiness...would the Half-Dragon synergize well, or would it be a bit over the top?

Dynamic Priest from Dragonlance:Legend of the Twins allows you to replace Wis with Cha for Cleric casting; is there a Faerun or canonical equivalent? I'd prefer not to have to stray too far from normal...

Also, looking over the X stat to Y bonus list...should I bother with trying to get Cha to saves, AC etc or just not worry about it? DMM is rather nifty...does it overrule Cha-to-stuff? Or would that be the sort of thing we apply to get niftiness?

Again, I'd like to reiterate my thanks for such notables helping me out; if I only had ONE more level I'd play the Arrow Demon build I read about ages ago and have been fantasizing about ever since. Brilliant builds and work, lads. I eagerly await more data.
