| #1lo77oMay 15, 2008 10:18:50 | I have not yet tried the World Largest Dungeon. And it seems in a drunken haze i accepted a challenge. I am to try to solo WLD, using 28 point buy, starting ECL 1, and NPC classes only ![]() Am i screwed beyond salvation, or is there help to be gained? |
| #2ieniemienieMay 15, 2008 10:28:20 | there was a thread on this just this week... google it and post there |
| #3lo77oMay 15, 2008 10:33:58 | I know.. that is what inspired me to bring it up with him.... but the other thread involves player charecters... not NPC classes. |
| #4rebel7284May 15, 2008 10:38:09 | are you allowed prestige classes? I've heard commoner 1, survivor 5 is svg tech =P |
| #5phaedrusxyMay 15, 2008 10:40:43 | You're gonna die! :heehee |
| #6lo77oMay 15, 2008 10:43:39 | Maby i should just make a Whisper Gnome Expert at level 1, and max my hide... seems like i will be doing that alot. |
| #7ieniemienieMay 15, 2008 10:48:54 | as a warrior you do get full BAB and a good fort save! but as adept you get one lvl 1 spell per day!!!11one It's going to be a tough choice :P |
| #8phaedrusxyMay 15, 2008 10:55:13 | Maby i should just make a Whisper Gnome Expert at level 1, and max my hide... seems like i will be doing that alot. Hmm... you know, this is probably doable. An Expert might make it, if you could buy magic items to use with UMD. Of course... you can't, right? So an Adept is probably a better idea. Take Fell Animate and Metamagic School Focus. Cast Sleep on the first things you see that are vulnerable to it, and Coup De Grace them with a cantrip to make a zombie (or more than one). I don't remember starting gold for NPCs. I doubt you can afford a riding dog, but you could afford a few hunting dogs. |
| #9lo77oMay 15, 2008 10:55:21 | I "just" need to survive untill i can get into a PrC... so maby aim for one with early entry :S |
| #10phaedrusxyMay 15, 2008 10:57:18 | Adept 2/Aristocrat 1/Master of Shrouds. :D Ah, I think MoS requires Rebuke Undead. I don't know of any NPC classes with that. |
| #11lo77oMay 15, 2008 11:17:43 | Allso, i dot think you can summon in undermountain |
| #12magrusMay 15, 2008 11:19:01 | Impossible. I gave my players a free +2 LA, 36 point buy, double feats and full HP every level. They still average 1-3 near deaths every session, and this is a full party. Your DM is going to squish you. You should make a commoner named Hara-Kari. |
| #13phaedrusxyMay 15, 2008 11:21:21 | Allso, i dot think you can summon in undermountain WLD is not Undermountain. I don't remember which you can't summon in. Impossible. I gave my players a free +2 LA, 36 point buy, double feats and full HP every level. They still average 1-3 near deaths every session, and this is a full party. Your DM is going to squish you. You should make a commoner named Hara-Kari. You could give Pun Pun to a n00b, and he'd still probably get killed somehow. This might have to do with your players more than the module. |
| #14lo77oMay 15, 2008 11:23:44 | Impossible. I gave my players a free +2 LA, 36 point buy, double feats and full HP every level. I know this is a tall order to fill, but my definition of "impossible" changed a bit when i found the CO Board some 4-5 years ago. |
| #15pfootiMay 15, 2008 11:24:04 | You can summon in the WLD, it's just that your summons don't go away and they don't particularly like you. So, it's a bad idea. |
| #16lo77oMay 15, 2008 11:27:20 | Maby i should aim for a PrC with its own casting, such as Ur-Priest or Aposte of Peace. |
| #17phaedrusxyMay 15, 2008 11:34:38 | Maby i should aim for a PrC with its own casting, such as Ur-Priest or Aposte of Peace. You can't get into Ur-Priest till 6th level at the earliest, and it doesn't really take off in power till alot later (it is almost caught up with sorcerer casting at 10th). Chameleon would actually be better I think, but I don't remember the prereqs. |
| #18lo77oMay 15, 2008 11:41:02 | If i bypass an encounter by sneaking by, i still get a part of the XP right? |
| #19ieniemienieMay 15, 2008 12:18:57 | If i bypass an encounter by sneaking by, i still get a part of the XP right? In many prefab campaigns they rule 1/2 XP if you manage to cleverly avoid a combat situation... up to the dm though |
| #20lo77oMay 15, 2008 12:20:00 | I think ill need to do alot of "cleverly avoiding" |
| #21phaedrusxyMay 15, 2008 12:26:29 | Yeah... Whisper Gnome with the Darkstalker feat is definitely a good start. :D |
| #22magrusMay 15, 2008 12:41:16 | You could give Pun Pun to a n00b, and he'd still probably get killed somehow. This might have to do with your players more than the module. That or players adjusting to my no mercy DM style. *shrugs* Being used to DM's that pat you on the head and make everything ok when the going gets tough spoils players. I know this is a tall order to fill, but my definition of "impossible" changed a bit when i found the CO Board some 4-5 years ago. Even still, this is a suicide run. To start off with, a player wanting to solo the first half of Map A alone needs darkvision, area effect damage, and the ability to handle traps in order to do so in an efficient manner. Healing, good saves, and a high AC would be secondary to have for a solo person. An expert cannot provide that. How will you handle ability damage and such at level 2, beyond hoping you don't get hit with any? |
| #23lo77oMay 15, 2008 12:41:48 | What about a changeling going into warshaper.. that should fetch me fasthealing. If only i can survive that long. |
| #24jaronkMay 15, 2008 12:45:50 | If Commoner 1 is your first level, then you can go Commoner 1/Survivor 5. That might be well worth it. Take the infested with Chickens flaw and use the Chickens to trigger traps and feed yourself, perhaps? Could be amusing! JaronK |
| #25lo77oMay 15, 2008 12:49:06 | If Commoner 1 is your first level, then you can go Commoner 1/Survivor 5. That might be well worth it. Jackpot! Added fun... when i show up with a first level commoner, he will **** himself ![]() |
| #26hsienMay 15, 2008 13:02:25 | For possible inspiration only... Lil' Timmy (after an unfortunate fall down a well ) ended up in Undermountain as a lvl 1 commoner and survived to 3rd level commoner. At lvl 3 he was joined by an Expert, Smart Alec They died horribly shortly thereafter... |
| #27squashmonsterMay 15, 2008 13:36:21 | I'd take an expert with Use Magic Device, Hide, Move Silently, and the prerequisites to Ur Priest. You get experience for sneaking past things, so you might just make it to the point where you can cast spells. |
| #28loganic1May 15, 2008 14:26:13 | Again, Ur priest isn't going to work. With a level cap at six, you'll only be able to get a single level of it. Hurray for first level spells. Now take on a beholder. I personally think the main point of E6 is that you're going to get many many feats eventually anyways, so how are you going to use it? |
| #29lo77oMay 15, 2008 14:31:30 | Again, Ur priest isn't going to work. E6? I think ill need to talk with him again while we are both sober.... |
| #30hogarthMay 15, 2008 15:51:02 | My $0.02: Try a Dragonborn Jermlaine. Buy a cage made out of some kind of sturdy material, the sturdier the better (stats for cages can be found in the Arms & Equipment Guide). Make sure the bars are too close together to let anything dangerous through (arrows, weapons). Then breathe on anyone who gets too close to your cage. ![]() |

| #32ChristopherGrovesMay 15, 2008 16:12:32 | That ECL 1 kills you. A black etherguant commoner would rock it ;) |
| #33ChristopherGrovesMay 15, 2008 16:13:20 | Ooooh ... I've got it. Be an aristocrat. HIRE an adventuring party. |
| #34andyjamesMay 15, 2008 16:13:32 | I have not yet tried the World Largest Dungeon. See, children, this is why you don't game drunk... On a more serious note, there is a thread somewhere that made a very good chicken thrower out of a Commoner. I would go that way just for giggles. |
| #35lordmaulMay 15, 2008 16:23:27 | ah, Jermlaines... if you take your first level in Monk, you may not need the cage, as things are going to have a hell of a time hitting you (conventionally, anyway, but then again, cages are still bad if you go against spells). Just base, you have +9 AC from your race (+3 Dex, +3 Wis, +3 Tiny... am I missing anything?). Put 10 points into Dex, 6 into Wis, 10 into Con (just in case you do get hit/Fort saves), and 2 into Int. That totals to another +5 AC, and a +2 hp/Fort Saves. All good saves (Fort is weakest at +4(?)/Reflex +8/Will +7), 24+ AC, 10 hp... not bad for first level. |

| #37jameswilliamogleMay 15, 2008 16:32:15 | How about trap-making abuse? Warforged Expert w/ craft:trapmaking ftw! |
| #38phaedrusxyMay 15, 2008 16:33:32 | Man... a warforged commoner with the Chicken Infested flaw and a Chef's hat sounds entirely too funny to pass up. |
| #39heliomanceMay 15, 2008 16:37:24 | Craft (basketweaving). Very important. |
| #40pfootiMay 15, 2008 18:37:38 | No, I like the idea of a chicken-infested commoner. That's a great idea. Work toward master thrower and drunken master, I've always wanted to see that Cluck-Fu build work in practice. |
| #41gavinfoxxMay 15, 2008 18:49:39 | You will get screwed! Just see how creatively you can survive. Uhm, I would cheat and start looking at the WLD book, at least the first dungeon in it! =D It REQUIRES trapfinding and a lot of skills... |
| #42jameswilliamogleMay 15, 2008 19:08:52 | You will get screwed! Just see how creatively you can survive. Uhm, I would cheat and start looking at the WLD book, at least the first dungeon in it! =D Handle Animal + Bison, trample through the dungeon? |
| #43gavinfoxxMay 15, 2008 19:25:56 | Handle Animal + Bison, trample through the dungeon? Sadly, not all the traps are the type that, you know, just damage you. There are some that have to be solved with skills, or you DON'T move on... ie, you have to have trapfinding, a good search, and a good disable device, or you CAN NOT leave the room... |
| #44andyjamesMay 15, 2008 19:30:08 | How many stone walls/doors can survive 1000000d6 damage...? |
| #45jameswilliamogleMay 15, 2008 20:51:11 | What about playing a door-ninja? |
| #46eldarielMay 15, 2008 21:43:56 | What's all this nonsense? You can totally be Pun-Pun and end the whole damn dungeon with a thought. Last I checked, level 1 Expert could totally pull it off. |
| #47phaedrusxyMay 16, 2008 11:54:18 | What's all this nonsense? You can totally be Pun-Pun and end the whole damn dungeon with a thought. Last I checked, level 1 Expert could totally pull it off. Yeah, what are we thinking? :heehee |
