Help! Is a gestalt archivist//erudite a good idea?

Apr 25, 2008 8:41:33 Starting a 7th level gestalt campaign and was wondering if a build with archivist and erudite (with the spell to power alt feature) was a good idea. Also help optimizing it would be great.

Apr 25, 2008 9:27:08 It's a very good idea. Optimization is mainly in selecting powers - read the wizard guides on spells, because those are spells you want either through the erudite or clever archivist tricks. See also colm_l's list of spells the archivist can learn.

Apr 25, 2008 9:49:04 Check out the Posting Instructions stickied. You need to tell us what kind of books you're using, what kind of stats you have, etc. Otherwise advice given is poor. Such an int-oriented person wants to be a sun elf or a gray elf, IMO. I forget if the lesser tieflings get a +2 int. Other than that, give me details and I'll give you help.

Apr 25, 2008 10:16:44 Any WotC published book is acceptable. Stats are 14, 16, 18, 10, 9, 17. Standard gold for a 7th lvl character, plus and additional 50,000 gp.

Archivist-11 or 12 is my breakpoint there, you don't need much else past there, and you might be able to find more interesting class features elsewhere. Sacred Exorcist is just to get some turn attempts so you can do divine metamagic.

I forget if the spell-to-power erudite needs to stay in-class, but going with AI and Slayer means you get some great blasting capabilities and a fairly decent BAB out of the deal. Any race with a +INT is good, and outsiders let you abuse polymorph / metamorphosis.

Read the Psionic forum for hints on how to play the psion side. Make friends with lots of peope: get a good Diplomacy, so you can convince the divine casters to help you make scrolls and the wizards to teach you their spells.

You can't gestalt 2 PRCs at the same time.
A gestalt character can’t combine two prestige classes at any level, although it’s okay to combine a prestige class and a regular class.
