Hi,

Am starting a campaign with a dm who has a rep for being pretty tough on his players. Fun campaigns but he pulls no punches. Some optimization might help.

We are going to be facing a horde of hobgoblins, performing special ops stuff and stand up fighting both. Party has 2 clerics, a dragon shaman and a scout.

I'd like to play somebody who can really dish out a lot of damage; arcane, melee, whatever!

Rules are phb races only. Level 5. 35 point build. Books allowed are PHB, DMG, PHB II, DMG II and the Complete series except for Complete Mage.

Any suggestions welcome. Ty!

By the sound of things you lack the battle field controller. Which when facing a ton of guys you need to have 1 of 2 things. Either a controller, or tank. A very good tank with goad is nice as it helps with battle field control. But facing a horde I'd say probably best to use lots of area spells. Shape spell would be good for when your friends are in close battle. Or summoning. Those are some of the ideas. But I still think area spells are the best for that or get an army for yourself. The beauty of leadership feat...especially with a caster. Many casters! That is if the DM will let you. Also a route to Force missile mage as you will never miss and you can really pump out the damage.

You really can't go wrong with a straight up druid.
