| #1loganic1Mar 17, 2008 15:21:10 | Whats a super soaker? It's a character that can absorb the most amount of damage. Whether you're fighting a dragon, or cutting a swathe through the battlefield, a character that's able to absorb the most, is an asset to the group. I would appreciate it if you tried to make builds that did so. To measure that, here are two scoring methods with which to measure who has the best super soaker. 1. Basic absorbtion 1. Maximum HP (assume max rolls for HD) 2. Damage Reduction 3. Total Energy Resistance, (treat immunities as 100, and weaknesses as -100) Formula: M.HP + 5x DR + (3/4) ER 2. Survivability 1. Maximum HP (assume max rolls for HD) 2. Damage Reduction 3. Total Energy Resistance, (treat immunities as 100, and weaknesses as -100) 4. AC (if you get temporary 5. SR, (treat immunity as Spell level x 3) 6. Saves (sum total) 7. Healage Formula: M.HP + 5x DR + (1/2) ER + AC + SR + Saves For temporary stats, treat each as being multiplied by a fraction of how much it can be maintained within a 20 round period. (# of rounds maitainable/20) x bonus. |
| #2carnivoreMar 17, 2008 15:27:16 | this is an interesting idea, however the scoring seems to be wrong.... you need to have Separate Categories.....exa: scoring VS Melee Attacks scoring VS Ranged Physical Attacks scoring VS Spells and Spell-like reduced by SR scoring VS Elemental Damage scoring VS Ability Damage or Drain/ or Energy Drain not every attack will have the same type of damage :D |
| #3loganic1Mar 17, 2008 17:20:27 | I was hoping to making soaking the primary focus, DR and ER the secondary, with SR, AC and other tanking survival stats as tertiary focus. Do you have any ideas how to properly measure it and maybe help me set up proper challenge. |
| #4carnivoreMar 18, 2008 5:14:11 | to determine the amount of damage that you can "Soak"(ever play Aberant?)... you need to consider the damage and damage reduction at the same time: Total Physical Damage taken = (Physical Damage=(Melee damage- DR)+(Ranged-DR))+(Energy damage- Resistance*).... this is reduced by the chance to actually hit the target(AC, Miss chance) Total Spell/Power((EX) and (Spl) and (SU) abilities) Damage ..... similar to above.... but reduce by Saves, SR/PR, Evasion or Mettle Ability damage/Drain is taken Separately.... but Con damage Adds a Value to Total Physical Damage taken, Dex damage subtracts from AC Energy Drain(Negative Levels adds to total Physical damage) :D *Resistance: Immunity = 100% resistance |
| #5ChristopherGrovesMar 18, 2008 7:23:13 | A waforged juggernaught saint gets you immunity to most things. With Heavy Armor Optimization and Deflective Armor his touch AC is pretty significant. The only thing you're left with is damage absorption and I think two energy types (Sonic, no immunity ... and resist 10 fire). |
| #6jameswilliamogleMar 18, 2008 7:43:43 | I'll get the ball rolling! Desert Dwarf Binder 15 / KoSS 5 Weapon Focus: Unarmed Strike, Toughness, Roll w/ It X7, 2 flaws Cha (final) 32 binds: Zcecyryl (patron vestige), Acerak, Haures, Halphax Armor: Heavy Steel Shield +5, Mithril Full Plate +5, both Ghost Ward, Ring of Prot +3, Ring of Nattie +3 AC (touch, normal, and FF) 36 (1/5 rounds: 47) DR 24 / everything that's not magic and adamantine and cold iron SR 30 ER 15 / acid and electricity Immunity: Negative Energy, [Mind], [Fear], Energy Drain, Negative Levels, Cold, Electricity Bonus: Slippery Mind, Incorporeal while moving |
| #7TheMonkMar 18, 2008 7:52:58 | A frenzied berserker is practically immune to damage and cannot die due to damage while he's in a frenzy, maybe you wanna look that up ![]() I am not sure if this is exactly what you want, but a FB can soak up infinite damage while in a frenzy, however, is still subject to death effects, massive damage, ability damage and such. I hope this helps some. |
| #8green_eyesMar 18, 2008 7:53:15 | There were a couple of Mr.Invincibles... The Cheater of Mystra and half-troll Bone-Kinght, IIRC. |
| #9bowensilverclaw1986Mar 18, 2008 8:09:20 | A warforged with the Troll-Blooded feat might be a start (needs flaws to also pick up Toughness at level 1 though). Add in things like Evasion, Mettle, Spell Resistance and bonuses to saves and you should be on your way... Maybe Phrenic template for the SR/PR, Paladin of Tyranny and Hexblade for the save boosts and Mettle, some Rogue or Monk for Evasion, Monk or Swordsage for extra AC... Plenty of ways to increase your defensive potential ![]() ~Bowen |
| #10brainpiercingMar 18, 2008 8:29:07 | The Bionic Corpse Mecha: (Don't know if this counts, since it's strictly speaking boosted by "items".) DN 16, Hexblade 2, Monk 2(/w ascetic Mage) (There's a reason I don't want to take evil pally, because the DR of the Mecha will likely as not be x/good and something, and you don't want to be fighting good enemies.) You may want to include binder/anima mage, I haven't thought his through, fully. CL20 initially with practiced SC. Corpse Creature 18HD Pit fiend (~234 HP /w necromancy feats), DR 15/good and silver, SR 32, Immunity to Fire and Poison, some minor resistances (to be improved by items); Cast Greater Consumptive Field (which you have taken as an advanced learning spell), kill 10+ flies, gain CL 30. Improve with Ioun-stone, magic tattoo, etc. Cast Magic Jar, get in Bionic Corpse Mecha. Now you're quite hard to dispel. Cast GCF again before combat, kill 20 flies, gain temporary hitpoints. If you want it to last longer repeat once. Your CL won't rise, and bonuses won't stack, but duration will improve to 30 rounds+. You will have: ~234HP + X temporary HP, depending on how many house flies you want to murder in cold blood. DR 15 good and silver Cha to saves vs. spells and AC, Evasion, Mettle (or does that only come at Hexblade 3? I'm doing this out of my head.) Tons of Natural Armour Great Dex. Near bottomless healing from tons of spells. Unfortunately no 9th level spells pre-epic. You'll need protection against a few things: Most notably, Disintegrate, Glass strike, some others. Possible stats: 300+ HP, DR, resistances. AC ~10+31natural+12cha+11dex+8bracers+1monk=73, Touch 34, without any fancy items. Could be at least +5 deflection, +7shield. Pretty good saves vs. Spells, Immunity to most fort saves, Evasion. I don't know the save progression for Hexblade out of my head, so I can't calculate them exactly right now. SR 32 against all spells that affect the physical body, and most probably immunity to a lot of others. |
