Hey guys, I have a problem.... I absolutely love d&d but after about 2 levels of playing one character I get bored of him and start hating him...... this game I am hoping to play a versatile character (changeling) that is effective, slightly above average in power. I prefer deceptive characters but anything works.
The current party is a human druid specializing in archery (for some reason), a human monk, and an elf psionic (NPC) I believe we will be shortly gaining a half-elf bard as we are incorporating a new player into the game (a pity since I was planning on playing a bard).
If you guys have any ideas or suggestions i would greatly appreciate it.

Oops almost forgot, we are still playing 3.5e

Changeling Factotum (dungeonscape). Grab some of the racial feats from Races of Eberron and fill the rest with Font of Inspiration. You can and will hold any role you feel like, round for round. Switch appearance and personality to match your role and you get your deception.

For it to be truly spectacular, here's the source on Font of Inspiration. I forget the precise names of the racial feats I mentioned; I think the main one was Persona Immersion.

There is one thing I am a little vague on, the Factotum 3rd level ability Brains over Brawn.
Gain your intelligence modifier as a bonus on dexterity and strength checks. What exactly falls into the category of a dex or str check, would initiative gain a bonus because it is basically d20+dex? and am i correct in thinking damage and/or attack rolls would not be boosted?

also if initiative does get boosted, would that replace my dex or let me use both dex and int.

At the start of a battle, each combatant makes an initiative check. An initiative check is a Dexterity check.

I don't have my book with me, though - if Brains over Brawn works as I remember it (requiring an action and having an instantaneous duration), it wouldn't work on Initiative, since you haven't got actions when you roll Initiative and you can't trigger it in advance. I could be wrong, though.

Considering the PHB states that an Initiative Check IS a Dexterity Check, Brains over Brawn does apply. For some neat tricks, go Factotum 4, Chameleon 2. use the bonus feat to keep taking Font of Inspiration, then when you can, take Font a final time and benefit from several uses of the feat by only really taking it once. My favorite Changeling build is using Factotum, Chameleon and Warshaper.
