| #1sir_chivalryOct 21, 2008 13:08:36 | I was looking at the dread commando in Heroes of Battle, and I now want to play a dread commando. I come to you people at the CharOp board to ask, how can I go about making the most of the abilites the class gives me? If it helps, I have access to the PHB, DMG, MM, PHB II, DMG II, Complete Adventurer, Complete Arcane, Complete Divine, Complete Warrior, Complete Mage, Complete Champion, Complete Scoundrel, Draconomicon, Libris Mortis, BoVD, BoXD, Heroes of Battle, Heroes of Horror, Cityscape and Dungeonscape. Thank you in advance. |

| #4brainpiercingOct 21, 2008 18:40:32 | Necropolitan Human Ranger 3/Rogue 2/Factotum 10/Dread Commando 5. You mean Chameleon or really factotum? |
| #5innabinderOct 21, 2008 19:06:15 | I meant Factotum, but Chameleon probably works too, assuming he can qualify. I threw out a knee-jerk build response, mostly because I really like Dread Commando myself. Mine went the Ranger/Scout way, but there's no info there on the rest of the party so I suggested the most versatile method I could come up with in 45 seconds of thought. ![]() |
| #6amazing_triangleOct 21, 2008 19:45:52 | Well since we are just throwing stuff out there...this is an old character I built along time ago. So I can't vouch for it being any good. (Scout 7/Dread Commando 5/Duelist 8): From Leveling: Improved Initiative, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot, Many Shot, Shot on the Run, Quick Draw, Guerrilla Scout, Improved Critical, Far shot +5 Keen Explosive Corrosive Longbow (Scout 5/Incarnate 5/Dread Commando 5/Incarnum Blade 5) Feats: From Leveling: Spring Attack, Leap Attack, Power Attack, Bonus Essentia (2), Bonus Essentia (2), Indigo Strike (1) Human Bonus: Dodge Scout Bonus: Mobility Essentia: Bloodwar Gauntlets 3 (morale +3 to damage) Bluesteel Bracers 3 (+2 init, +3 insight to damage) (Bound to arms) Indigo Strike- Skirmish 3 (+4dmg on skirmish) Blade binds – Feet (+2 init) Hands (+1 to hit) Heart (+40 HP) (factored in) Soul (Evil aligned weapon 1d6 vs good) Incarnum Radiance: +4 damage for 13 rounds a day (not added in) Possessions: +5 Keen Collision Flaming Burst Share +7 initiative with those within 30ft |
| #7WyvernhandOct 21, 2008 22:45:23 | Go first! Hexblade4/Marshall2/DreadCommando5/Blackguard9? Cha focus, mix it up and you can be almost completely Cha driven, with cha to saves twice, cha to init +5, hidy skills, Dreadful Wrath (feat) with Hex and Dark Companion (PHBII) and Aura of Dispair for debuffing and some minor Blackguard casting. Could swap out BG after about level 3 for something like Occult Slayer or a level of Exotic Weapon Master depending on weapon. Just a skeleton build, but does it look interesting? Edit: Oh oh, start with Gravetouched Ghoul as your base creature, and then go into Hexblade4/Marshal1/LionBarb1/DreadCommando5/Blackguard. Since your save DC on paralysis is Cha based, you'd be pretty baddass, especially with all of those debuffs you'd be throwing up from Hexblade and Blackguard. You're init would be rediculous, and you would probably be able to start most combats from hiding due to DC, you could do a partial charge pounce, win init, and charge/pounce the next foe. Use your claw/claw/bite routine with GTG adding in your DC sudden strike and Divine Might for bonus damage, and stuff like (Improved) Rapid Strike and Snapkick to generate extra attacks (and thus chances to paralyse the tasty tasty fleshbags!). |

| #10sonofzealOct 24, 2008 20:53:56 | From the Auramaster in my sig: Saint (+2 LA), Marshal 2 / Bard 1 / Divine Mind 10 / Paladin 3 / Dragon Shaman 1 / Dread Commando 1. Items: Horn of Goodness, Admiral's Bicorn, Regalia of the Hero. Your allies will be gamebreakingly uber, and almost all of it is from passive buffs that are up 24/7, so you don't need to spend rounds buffing. Highly recommended... if you want to utterly destroy the campaign. The one time I played this guy, the DM had to triple the number of enemies in each encounter and we STILL won solidly. Doesn't use much Dread Commando, but you could easily rework it for more, maybe at the expense of Divine Mind. |
