| #1mglApr 12, 2009 9:04:47 | hello everyone!! well... im here for asking u guyz a litle help to build my PW. i play in a world with my friend where there is no magic, only a few artifacts and magic itens are still working and the DM only allows normal characters with normal PrC ( ill list the books avaible for the game ) and i decide to make a psychic warrior because the group has no melee characters. i seach in the internet and i found 2 builds that actually are good ( at the first glance ), ill list to you guyz: Human, PW 20 1: Combat Manifesting 1: Shield Specialization- Extreme Shield ( extreme shield? i dont understand this ) 1: Focused Shield ( i dont know where to find this feat ) 2: Mantle Trained- Freedom ( this feat too, but this allow me to choose one mantle and use the powers ? ) 3: Tap Mantle ( ????? dont know where to find too ) 5: Shielded Manifesting ( ???? dont know where to find ) 6: Shield Ward 8: Exotic Armor Proficiency- Dwarven Battle Plate ( this feat ill change because my DM will not aprove it ) 9: Heavy Armor Optimization 11: Deflective Armor ( ??? dont know where to find ) 12: Combat Expertise 14: Expanded Knowledge: Schism 15: Psychic Meditation 17: Overchannel ( dont know where to find ) 18: Talented ( dont know where to find ) 20: Greater Heavy Armor Optimization and this one: Two Hand Weapons 1: Power Attack 1: Cleave 1: Furious Charge/Reckless Charge 2: improved initiative 3: Dodge 5: Leap Attack 6: Improved Bull Rush 8: Shock Trooper 9: Combat Expertise 11: Karmic Strike 12: Combat Reflexes 14: Leap of the Heavens 15: Expanded Knowledge-Schism or metamorphosis 17: Psychic Meditation 18: Psionic Weapon 20: Deep Impact so... there is some PrC that everyone talks about but i cant find on expanded psionics and the complete psionics: Sanctified Mind and Slayer im really like to use a big bad two hand weapon and do TONS of damage with her, but i make some tests with my DM (the actual level of character is 12 and i challenge monster of CR 10 with this two hander build and i SUFFER a lot to win and i almost die against an Astral Construct, my AC is 17 and the construct hit me almost everytime, the luck is karmic strike and the real problems is with the powers, the majority is standard action to activate and 1 turn without hit that thing is one round spend 12points to vigor to gain some temporary hit points to try to stay alive ) so... there is my problem, i want a character, PW level 12, without magical itens and only with her mind, to deal lots of damage and be the tanker to the group, but the tanker capable of doing lots of damage because i am the only melee character in the party ( the other one is a psion 12 and a ranger (almost tempest) 14 ) and i want to know where to find some of that feats that i dont have ANY ideia where to find and i want help to build up things right!! so... sorry for the long threat but im desperate!! REAL thanks in advance for ho really read my problem!! and thanks too to the other who only slide the bar to the end of the thread and help in the same way ! ^_^ ps: and please, sorry for my poor english !! =D |
| #2arty-ficerApr 12, 2009 15:56:34 | Well the first build is mainly made with things from races of stone. The Shield Specialisation is for an extreme shield which is from races of stone, it provides a +3 to AC instead of the +2 of a regular shield, and the feat adds an extra +1 but you would also need Exotic Shield Proficiency to use it... The first build is very very AC intensive which isn't always a good thing. Also Tap Mantle is in Complete Psionic and Overchannel and Talented are in The Expanded Psionics Handbook The second build is better in that you will be able to deal more damage using power attack which lends itself to using a two handed weapon. I don't know an aweful lot about Psionics but I'm sure there are others here that can help on that front, but I would recommend having a look at http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=860838 Hope that is helpful ![]() |
| #3phaedrusxyApr 12, 2009 16:13:35 | With Shock Trooper and Psionic Lion's Charge, anything you face should die immediately after you charge. The problem will be multiple enemies, and the times when you can't charge for whatever reason. I'd highly suggest Linked Power from Complete Psionic. You can use it with a swift action power that only costs 1 power point (like Adrenaline Rush, same book) to buff yourself without wasting actions, before you can get Schism. The second power won't take effect till the next round, but it is still a huge advantage. With the amount of buffing you're going to have to do to get a decent AC with no magic items, you're also going to run out of power points very easily (which is always a problem with psiwarriors, anyway, even with magic items). I'd actually suggest being either a psion or ardent based gish, if you want to worry about having decent defenses. At level 12, you'll be past the point where having a few d4 or d6 hit dice matters, and the advantage of having a lot more power points and higher level powers will be huge. Of course, the alternative is to focus purely on offense, which is what the build with Shock Trooper does. Add in Linked Power to manifest Vigor every round as a swift action, and a Psicrystal to share Vigor with and dump half your damage into via Share Pain, and you should be able to survive very well with even a negative AC. Ardent actually multiclasses very well with Psiwarrior, so you can kind of get the best of both worlds there. Here is an Ardent/Psiwarrior I'm just starting to play in a game. With no magic items, I'd probably pick my powers known differently. I also intentionally toned this character down some, as otherwise I would take Metamorphosis + Metamorphic Transfer. I'll probably enter Slayer later, which is the generic version of Illithid Slayer and can be found in the SRD. The mantle stuff is probably in Complete Psionic. I think some of the shield and armor stuff is in Races of Stone. You can also look in the Mind's Eye articles for things you can't find. This online index has a lot of stuff in it, also. Search it with google. |
| #4WyvernhandApr 12, 2009 16:16:02 | If you have access to the Secrets of Sarlona book, another fun build is: Monk2/PsiWar18 with Monastic Training at 1st and Tashalatora at 3rd. This allows your Monk and PsiWar levels to stack to determine your UAS damage. Add in Expansion and Strength of my Enemy and you are a pretty fierce UASer and pretty competant grappler as well. More options are GREAT. |
| #5mglApr 13, 2009 18:49:54 | wow, so much help guyz! thanks to all for the tips... but im think ill be more capable of damage with the second build i post, and i really like to have some help of u guyz to optimize the build... 1: Power Attack 1: Cleave 1: Furious Charge 2: improved initiative 3: Dodge 5: Leap Attack 6: Improved Bull Rush 8: Shock Trooper 9: Combat Expertise 11: Karmic Strike 12: Combat Reflexes some things come in mind... the combo of having a psicrystal and share pain with him along with sharing vigor is a VERY good option, and i´ll have low A.C. because in this world that im playing is desert in almost all the places and have no magic at all, so heavy armors are completely useless, i´ll probably use a chainshirt or something like that, made of mithril, very light, and a greatsword made of adamantine, and after this ill have only the equipaments for the day to day use, like rations and water, and clothes... so all of the other players are very poor too... i really like to use this psicrystal + share pain combo, and i really like know a way to spend less power points to activate my powers and a way to not spend a standard actions activating my powers ( and the majority of them are standard actions and i use on karmic strike ) and some way to improve my HP ( yeah, vigor will be always on, but 12 pp = 60 THP right?, and 12 pp is TOO MUCH!! i have only 61 in total ), and my initiative are low, maybe i change combat expertise for imp. initiative... so, my atributes are str: 22 dex:16 cons: 18 int:12 wis:14 cha:10 can u guyz make a miracle with that? thank u a lot again, i dont have words to thank u all =D edit: forget about the imp. initiative part, i discover that i already have the feat! =D thanks edit 2: i forget to say about the prestige class question, my group always shout with me because of the super apelations that i find here, the characters with 10+ classes and PrC and i have to admit, im against it. i want to make a solid character, with one class or one class and PrC or 2 classes and PrC ( gish, maybe ) but have to make SENSE. like a fighter sorc EK make sense to me and the master but a psion/PSW/ardent/EK/ranger/rogue do not make ANY sense for me ( off course im joking about the second one, but serves me well to make an example) sooo, thanks again and again! |
| #6arty-ficerApr 13, 2009 19:01:05 | What race are you planning on playing or are your options restricted, if not have a look at elans if you are worried about taking lots of damage, they have a racial ability that can reduce damage by 2 per power point spent, this can be upgraded to 4 damage per power point with a feat which is always nice. Elans are also able to go without food and water by using 1 power point per 24 hours which may be useful in your campaign setting. Though you would lose the bonus feat at first level that a human would get. |
| #7noldorforceApr 13, 2009 22:20:40 | What race are you planning on playing or are your options restricted, if not have a look at elans if you are worried about taking lots of damage, they have a racial ability that can reduce damage by 2 per power point spent, this can be upgraded to 4 damage per power point with a feat which is always nice. That's done as an immediate action, which blows your swift action for the next round. And makes it impossible to use it for more than one attack. Elans are also able to go without food and water by using 1 power point per 24 hours which may be useful in your campaign setting. Though you would lose the bonus feat at first level that a human would get. Meh. There is, however, a very good reason to use an Elan, elaborated upon in the King of Smack build and its successors. As an aberration, you'd get access to the Rapidstrike feats - which allow you to make multiple attacks with a given set of natural weapons. Like, oh, Claws of the Beast. Edit: What books are available, anyway? The Rapidstrike feats are from Draconomicon, for reference. |
| #8operation_shoestringApr 13, 2009 23:04:15 | Combat manifester? Armor specialization? How the heck is that optimized? (refering the the earlier post) Make sure you get the power that grants you an AoO when someone misses you to go with karmic strike. Psywars can usually benefit from awesome Midnight Augmentation + Psycarnum Infusion combo. (add in Psionic Meditation for faster recharge) |
| #9mglApr 14, 2009 9:45:59 | the books avaible? expanded psionics, the complete series, players 1 and 2, master, and other books that dont have weird stuff... and btw i dont want to use claws for attacking my enemys, i know this is a good thing but my character is a wanderes and he is selfish enought to use a greatsword to intimidate her enemys and my group is very baseline ( with this i mean almost to none PrC, almost all characters are full classes or 2 classes and 1 PrC, like sorc fighter EK, and this is the edge ) so, i hope u guyz help me and make suggestions to the second build that i post, the two hander one, with feats that make nice combos and powers suggestions!! thank u all a lot!! |
| #10phaedrusxyApr 14, 2009 12:49:55 | 1: Power Attack 1: Cleave 1: 2: improved initiative 3: Dodge 5: Leap Attack 6: Improved Bull Rush 8: Shock Trooper 9: 11: Karmic Strike 12: Combat Reflexes so, my atributes are str: 22 dex: cons: 18 int:12 wis: cha:10 Linked Power, as I already described, is from Complete Psionic, and can let you manifest buffs as a swift action by linking them to a 1 power point swift action power. Read the feat if you want to know more. Psicrystall Affinity is needed to get a psicrystal for the Vigor/Share Pain trick. With that, you effectively get 10 temporary hit points per power point spent on Vigor, due to Share Pain and sharing the Vigor with your psicrystal. The psicrystal gets full benefit of the Vigor, and absorbs half your damage. I don't know what Furious Charge is, but I'd bet my wallet it isn't better than Linked Power. Also, if you need more power points, get a bunch of Manifester Arrows or Bolts. They cost 1/50th the price of a weapon with this, because they're ammunition, but still get full benefit of the Manifester ability. |
| #11carnivoreApr 14, 2009 14:50:01 | Furious Charge[Regional](Player's Guide to Faerûn)Prerequisite: Aarakocra (the Stormhorns), human (Cormyr, the Ride, Tethyr, or Uthgardt Tribesfolk), orc (Chessenta), or wemic (the Shaar). Benefit: You gain a +4 bonus on the attack roll you make at the end of a charge. Special: You may select this feat only as a 1st-level character. You may have only one regional feat. Normal: A character gains a +2 bonus on the attack roll made at the end of a charge. Linked Power[Metapsionic](Complete Psionic) Benefit: To use this feat, you must expend your psionic focus. Manifesting a power altered by this feat means that you must choose two powers - one you intend to manifest in this round, and one you intend to manifest in the next round. The power that is manifested in this round is not altered in any way, nor is the linked power that goes off in the next round - however, you do not need to spend any of your actions or power points next round to manifest the linked power. The linked power is automatically targeted on the same area or target as the power you manifest in this round (if the power you manifest this round has no area or target, choose an area or target in this round for the linked power to affect in the next round). If the same creature is targeted by both powers, the target experiences all the effects of both powers individually and receives a saving throw (if applicable) for each. In some cases, such as a psionie charm followed by a linked psionic charm, failing both saving throws results in redundant effects (although, in this example, any ally of the target would have to succeed on two dispel attempts to free the target from the charm effect). It is possible that by the time the linked power comes into effect on the following round, the area where it goes off or the target that it affects no longer has relevance. On the other hand, you are free on the subsequent round to take actions normally. Using this feat increases the power point cost of the power manifested this round by a number equal to the power point cost of the linked power. Thus if you manifest energy stun (3 power points) and energy burst (S power points) as the linked power, the mecapsionic cost is 8. The total of power points you spend in this manner cannot exceed your manifester level. for comparison i would change as follows: 1: Power Attack 1: Linked Power 1: Psionic Weapon 2: Combat Reflexes 3: Psicrystal Affinity 5: Leap Attack 6: Improved Bull Rush 8: Deep Impact 9: Psionic Meditation 11: Shock Trooper 12: Robilars gambit :D |
| #12noldorforceApr 14, 2009 17:35:07 | Carnivore, the character's a psychic warrior. She won't have the requisite BAB (+12) for Robilar's Gambit until 16th level. |
| #13mglApr 14, 2009 18:49:12 | like u said noldorforce, i cannot take robilar´s now... so is not better to take karmic strike instead ? |
| #14noldorforceApr 14, 2009 19:28:31 | like u said noldorforce, i cannot take robilar´s now... so is not better to take karmic strike instead ? For the time being. Later you'll want to swap it out, likely by retraining (PHB2). At this point, I'd go with Carnivore's build, but swapping Psionic Weapon, Deep Impact, and Robilar's Gambit for (not in the same order, of course) Karmic Strike and its prerequisites. Having a psicrystal is fun for so many things, even if you don't have access to all the spiffy familiar feats that casters can take. |
| #15phaedrusxyApr 14, 2009 22:27:53 | The psicrystal is mainly a hit point battery. They are cool, though. :D Yeah, Carnivore's suggestions are good. The suggestions I made were minimal. You're going to want Psionic Mediation + Hustle to get your focus back, though. And maybe Psicrystal Containment for a second one. |
| #16carnivoreApr 15, 2009 4:40:20 | opps forgot about Robilars Reqs... i would adjust as follows: 1: Power Attack 1: Linked Power 1: Psionic Weapon 2: Combat Reflexes 3: Psicrystal Affinity 5: Leap Attack 6: Improved Bull Rush 8: Deep Impact 9: Psionic Meditation 11: Shock Trooper 12: Psicrystal Containment :D |
