Sorry, I know that I probabily shouldn't do this, but... you know, maybe he can see the light. So, let's go. I know a man that some day ago came with a "TO build", he says. Now I want to post it here and explain why he's sure that it works. I'm not the only one tha's trying to explain his mistake, maybe someone of you can help in this epic task :D

[i'll translate it, not literally, but close enough to get the sense]

Show
So, guys&girls, this is... "the gold man"...
Human factotum 3
1 skill focus(UMD), magical aptitude
3 improved initiative

UMD 6 ranks
Spelcraft 6 ranks
Knowledge (arcana) 6 ranks

Infinite gold: [omissis, you already know, the classic M@jere's Cow&Flesh to Salt trick]

equip: we have infinite gold, so get the highest UMD bonus that we can, and a planar ally scroll.

Infinite stats: call an efreet via planar ally, then get the ring of 3 wishes, whish a palanar ally scroll, go with the loop, with the infinite wishes we can pump up our stats at will.

[NdBlackstorm: I swear, he says that he's right, because wish says that "You may try to use a wish to produce greater effects than these, but doing so is dangerous. (The wish may pervert your intent into a literal but undesirable fulfillment or only a partial fulfillment)", but since the "perversion" is the DM will, and since there's no DM, he can request anything he wish without drawback... He justify this point of view with the phrase "It's a TO, so I'm right" - EndNd]

ripetendo all' infinito le operazioni avete livelli infiniti.
grazie a vari desideri fate in modo che "avete" i requisiti per le cdp che non potete avere (come razza, allineamento ed altro).

Infinite levels: with all our scrolls, obtained via efreet, cast a Gate, call an Hecatoncheires, it die with one blow due to our infinite stats, and go loop. With some wish scroll here and there "make" the requisites from the various prcs.
[NdMe: Yeah, I know, it cannot beh a dwarven defender/arcane archer. I know... but maybe he don't know].

infinite speed: due to infinite monk level.

infinite reach: shadow disciple + shadow kiss, infinite essence point due (??) to our infinite hd.

Infinite actions: due to the ubiquitos infinite hd, infinite multispell, stun immunity [via wish, I suppose], infinite celerity, so infinite standard actions.

arco vitale infinito: avete un' arco vitale infinito, avendo infinite volte il talento arco vitale prolungato

immortality: infinite hd, therefore extended life span...

Buff: infinite epic speed, infinite fast healing, infinite whatever feat or spell you like to put here.

oh, yup, the demiplane, too.

become a god: ice assassin + proxy, you know, standard Pun Pun's divne Squirrels. Oh, loop infinite times, obviously.

planar sense: go make a lot of (infinite? maybe) avatars, send them to various planes, let them speak your name, ghater the infos. (Textually: "you've find a way to augment the number of remote places that you can see simultaneously". Really, no explanation on how we can find that way).

planar reach: portal to another plane.

get every spell you like permanent via alter reality divine ability.

extra domain give you every domain in the universe.

Innate bonuses from wishes cap at +5. "Greater effect" requires a DM saying "Yes, sure, okay."

With a DM who always allows wishes to do whatever the player wants, one can just use a single Wish to become Pun-pun.

So, it's pointless.

Also, you need CL 26 to call Hecatoncheires.

Also, you cannot gain more than one level at once, no matter how much XP you'd get.

Also, a 3rd level character won't even get any XP from a Hecaton.... or anything with CR above 10, anyway.

1) Infinite gold: [omissis, you already know, the classic M@jere's Cow&Flesh to Salt trick]

2) call an efreet via planar ally, then get the ring of 3 wishes, whish a palanar ally scroll, go with the loop, with the infinite wishes

3) pump up out stats at will

4) "You may try to use a wish to produce greater effects than these, but doing so is dangerous

5) call an Hecatoncheires, it die with one blow due to our infinite stats

6) stun immunity [via wish, I suppose],

7) immortality: infinite hd, therefore extended life span...

1) It makes Salt, it doesn't say what kind of salt. NaCl is a Salt, but not the only Salt. Nothing in the spell says what kind of salt is created, so it is only edible if the DM says it is. If inedible, then it is as valuable as sand.

2) Your deity would stop sending you Wish capable monsters if he feels you are wasting his time or being to "upity." The monster would also likely charge the "worth" of a Wish, namely 25,000 gp to perform the Wish.

3) No infinite stats, limited to +5 and only if you convince five Efreeti to cast simultaneously (or sequentially) to even manage to get +5 other than the +1 he would have from pulling multiple sequentially Efretti.

4) Your DM is in charge of "greater effect" and can easily reject the effect or time travel you to the "end of time" where you have all the abilities you want but no one is alive.

5) How is this infinite levels? From the XP? Might run out of Hec's to summon before infinite. The 1000 xp cost per casting might mitigate or eliminate the xp gained by killing it.

6) Stun immunity via wish is entirely DM fiat. He could say no.

7) Infinite HD isn't infinite lifespan.

Tell your friend that he is a total munchkin, and then smack him

But seriously, his logic is very flawed. "Greater effects" must be adjuticated; since there is no DM to do the necessary adjudication of those "greater effects", then he is relegated to the ennumerated perameters of the spell.

Also, he's going to a lot of trouble just to duplicate what has already been done. Besides, not only was it done legally, but much, much more eloquently.

I didn't know that multiple imp initiatives stacked (besides, why did he bother if he's supposed to get infinite dex? FoI would have been much better). Also, it looks like he's trying to max his UMD for the scrolls -- but no "decipher script"? really?

immortality: infinite hd, therefore extended life span...

now he's just making stuff up as he goes along.

Give your friend a helmet, and tell him to try again.

Also, you need CL 26 to call Hecatoncheires.

Just wanted to pop in and say that's not quite true. You need CL26 to control it after you've called it. There's no CL requirement for just summoning the thing.

Here's another suggestion. Tell your friend to roll up another character. Since he's using that one in an attempt to be godly, he won't be adventuring... well... ever.

And not having a DM doesn't mean you can decide to get what you want with wish. It means that you're stuck with the rules as listed in the entry. No greater effects. Otherwise, he'd have to let someone else decide whether or not it got twisted. Say you for example. And then you can melt his face off :D

Couple of side notes:

Doesn't matter how much salt you can make. There's only so much gold per region, and much less of that is going to salt since mass production will knock the value down to nothing. No infinite gold. I expect you'll devalue salt before you run out of cows :D

Infinite wishes loop, once you *do* have enough gold to perform it, will only net you a slight stat bonus. No infinite stats for you.

With that in mind, summoning a Hecatoncheires will get you killed. Of course, since your friend didn't realize that at the time he decided to go through this cycle, you should totally let him get killed. Heck, if you summon the creature, you could get xp for killing him :D

Just having infinite HD doesn't give you an infinite life span.

And, oh yeah, the Planar Ally spell doesn't work for you a slave. You have to pay for everything you get, and "payment can take a variety of forms, from donating gold tor magic items to an allied temple, to a gift given directly to the creature, to some other action on your part that matches the creature's alignment and goals. Regardless, this payment must be made before the creature agrees to perform any services." Note again, that you actually have limited gold.
The efreeti has +15 to bluff, and is lawful evil. He's going to get more than his share from you, and will probably require you to do something that ends with you being killed. So, yeah, fun times :D

Seriously, trying to play a character with an infinite combo means you put your character sheet aside and roll a new one. Assuming that infinite combos actually exist, someone got there before you and just squished the life out of the character who was contemplating it.

Thank to all

Now he come with a build in wich he wishes a planar might staff. I'm unsure about that, since it's an epic item. Btw, don't worry, he's only trying to make TOs, not playable char.

And yup, it takes me something like 10 post to explain him what TO mean. Gee.

On a side note, the infinite life span point was: infinite hd, therefore infinite epic feats, therefore infinite extended life span. It's still not immortality, however, I suppose.

Also, like many have said, in TO, we HATE things that require DM. We don't have one, therefore we can't rely on it, like you friends seems to be doing.

Where is your friend, and what language does he speak?

The infinite wealth thing is only the first flaw. There are rules for the gp limits of various regions. Those are Core rules. While there are ways to obtain infinite wealth in this game, one needs to get a little funkier and use an arcane Genesis (plane of mithril) and Halaster's Fetch IX to call earth elementals inside.

Wish gives a gp limit on the value of nonmagical items it can create. I'm not sure why this wouldn't apply to magical items as well. I mean, this is a DM-generosity build (relying on the most liberal of all possible interpretations of greater powers available from the wish), so I guess that's much easier to swallow than the next parts.

There's more trouble to be had from the granting XP rules. Remember that paragraph about encounters being too easy? Killing a monster in one hit kind of qualifies. Even if XP is granted for the slaying of helpless called monsters, one will only get so many levels out of if before the monster fails to provide additional XP.

And note, worse, that even if it does continue to provide XP, it provides less and less XP as more levels are added... just when more and more XP is required to gain a level. At some point, days.... weeks.... months.... etc are going to be required before a new level is reached.

At length, the amount of time one is required to spend fighting Hecas will exceed the amount of time granted by all the Extended Lifespan feats, and the Gold Man dies because he's old.

Uh, he says that ice assassin at a lower level can do the works. Something like casta some Ice Assassin of himself, then go up a level, then kill the assassins, the go loop... I'm not even sure that an "auto-ice-assassin" could do the trick.

Where is your friend, and what language does he speak?

Italy&italian. He's not so much comfortable with english, afaik, so I don't think he can come and read this topic...

Darn, I much prefer berating in a language I know. French, even, but unfortunatly not Italian.

So, he proposes to make Ice Assassins of himself to kill?

Who's to say the Ice Assassins don't fight back? Does he tell them not to? Then it falls under the "Too Easy" rules.

Genesis (plane of mithril)

Which no longer exists in the most recent printing (Spells Compendium.) Yes I know it is in the SRD, but since the SRD hasn't been updated to the most recent rules one must consider the SRD an "earlier" printing.

Uh, he says that ice assassin at a lower level can do the works. Something like casta some Ice Assassin of himself, then go up a level, then kill the assassins, the go loop.

That is a lot of 20,000 gp material components to supply. Average of 6 XP drops to level, that is how many to 20th?

I tend to disagree for the "challenge" part due to a scary observation:

Uh... O_o;
Still, if my math is correct, a lv3 character stops getting XP from toads.

Also, just because they have not listed attacks doesn't mean they can't attack. Their attack is +0 and they deal 1 point of damage (1-5, minimum 1) with an unarmed strike.

Of course, that's a weird sort of madness...

Actually it does.

The DMG p26 weapon damage chart makes it clear when damage is reduced below 1 (which is below 1d2) then it is now - (dash) and as a result the create has no attack and deals no damage.

They could still attack. They just wouldn't do damage (unless they were holding the charge on a touch spell, etc). Doing damage is not the same thing as attacking. Or do you think that toad familiars can't deliver touch spells?

While that may be true (and I think it likely is true), it doesn't help the original project.

Dealing no damage means a nest of toads couldn't hurt a PC, which was the implication.

unfortunately, it still doesn't have any attack. I guess you could add "monster of legend" to it -- 1d2 bite and slam attack. Wow, Toad of Legend Paragon is actually a pretty tough looking animal (well, not very many HP, but everything else is pretty decent).

That is the idea that it has no attack. I might continue on the great toad madness:

Show

Yeah I found it on my external hard-disk, well buried and hidden. After correcting a few spelling mistakes, here is a repost of

The great TOAD MADNESS

Jean-Paul Berdot's restaurant needs help: all citizens of Payrise returned
yesterday from their vacation. They all hunger for toad-legs, but currently
Jean-Paul Berdot lackstoad catchers. This combination could get a serious threat to his reputation of having the best fried toad legs in town.
To his very chance, the PCs are in town! He hires them, for 50% of his benefit! Furthermore, they are allowed to use his facilities free of charge!

Each morning Jean-Paul wakes the PCs to get him toads, but he needs supplies before the first guests arrive,
so there is a time limit.
The task seems fairly easy: slay 200 toads with piercing weapons (else ther eis nothing left) and bring them in bucketfuls to his restaurant's kitchen.

The PCs get 3 buckets, each can load 50 toads. The players have to run 500 feet from restaurant to the toad lake. This will take approximately 6 rounds for a base speed of 30 feet, the last 100 feet to the lake slow speed down to half.
A player needs a move-action to place the bucket down at the restaurant. A PC can load a toad per attack he could make as a full-round action. If he is capable of 2 attacks via two-weapon fighting, he may load two toads.

Round 1: Less space and toads
Goal: 200 toads
Time: 200 rounds

After this day the PCs receive 1000gp each (5 per toad), and Jean-Paul tells, that he needs even more frogs on the next day. he got several reservations...
Experience Award: 6000 divided by all players (6 players gain lvl 2 exactly). Allow all players to level up. Jean-Paul's neighbour, Mimi Pavoir sells magic items, if the PCs are in need for enhancements. She has all and sells all.

Round 2: Jean-Paul builded some space-enhancements on the outside of his restaurant, he had a lot customers the former day, and wasnt able to serve all (for space reasons). So he invents the "catch-a-toad" service (like drive-ins).
Goal: 400 toads
Time: 275 rounds

2000gp, 12000 XP; level up.

Round 3: It seems, Jean-Paul is the sole frog seller left in town! He needs MORE!
Goal: 600 toads
Time: 350 rounds

3000gp, 18000 XP; level up.

Round 4: I cant see green anymore!
Goal: 800 toads
Time: 425 rounds

4000gp, 24000 XP; level up. (4 player parties are capped at 14.999 XP for their PC!!!)

Round 5: OMG, its horrible! but this is the last day before week-end!
Goal: 1000 toads
Time: 500 rounds

5000gp, 30000 XP; level up. (cap is at 20.999)

Phew, that was a lot of hard work! But on the next day, the town is attacked by bats!

Bat Disaster!!!

The bats are attracted by the smell of dead toads. Defend your pool!
Day 1
1200 bats

The town pays the PCs 6000gp,
36000 XP; level up.

Day 2, they won't give up...
1600 bats
8000gp, 42080 XP; level up.

Day 3: The Final (no) Boss Bat Battle!
4800 bats
24000gp, 96000 XP; level up. Even 6 player-parties are now close to level 10.

Sidenote: Why bats? Stack them in a single square so wizards can use AoE spells to better effect.

Monster Statistics:
Toad

Bat
Diminutive animal
HD: 1/4 d8 (1hp)
Init: +2 (dex)
Speed: 5ft., fly 40 ft. (good)
AC: 16 (4 size, 2 dex)
Attacks: -
Face/Reach: 1ft. by 1ft./0ft. (125 bats in a single 5ft. square)

CR: 1/10

Since both animals have a CR with no attack, both are considered a threat under any circumstances.
I assume that 1/10 is handled as CR 1 for the Xp tables, however each "monster" only gives 1/10 of the standard CR 1 XP.

Have fun! You now made a pointless level 9 character.
