Our DM decided what classes we are going to make for the next campaign and I have to make a Dark Elf Warlock. I haven't play a warlock before and i read some things to see what can i make of this. I found out one thing, he SUCKS. I don't know what to do to make him potent in combat so please PLEASE help me.

I will not count at UMD very much because knowing my DMs style i will not have many chances to do that, so maybe his best ability is ruined. I'd like some recommendations about his role in the party, he is definetly not a tank, not a healer, not a buffer, not a thief, he is NOTHING. What can I do with him???

How can I do any serious damage with him???

The resources available are PH, PH2 and the Complete Series. No multiclassing allowed except for prestige classes. Thanks in advance.

That is a good source for Warlock info. Warlock 20 isn't bad but the restrictions your DM has placed are uniquely tailored to limit the options avaliable to your Warlock. A lot of the content tailored to Warlocks are in other books.

one question, are you good or evil?

nice, because if you were good you would be out of luck. In that case, try the anti-christ build.

warlock-4
prc with strong fort save-1
ur-priest-2
eldrich disciple-9
warlock (or other PRC)-4

You get nearly the full invocation use of a 20th level warlock and full (to 9th level spells) divine spellcasting from the cleric list.

If your DM doesn't approve of that many PRCs then just go

Warlock-9
Ur-priest-10
warlock-1

You get 10 levels of warlock casting and 20th caster level for those divine spells (hello 9th level spells). Feel free to use divine metamagic to taste.

I didn't put a lot of effort into those builds, just make sure you have a way to meet the save reqs neccesary to enter Ur-Priest. That's the only real stumbling block.

Since you're restricted to the books you can use you could go Warlock 6/ Mindbender 1/ Ur-Priest 2/ Eldritch Disciple 10/ Warlock 1.

Otherwise if you could mutliclass and had access to other books then Warlock 4/ Binder 1/ Ur-Priest 2/ Eldritch Disciple 10/ Hellfire Warlock is just awesome.

Bad news, the DM does not allow me to take prestige classes, i have to go warlock all the way to level 20. Any tip on feat selection and battle tactics?

You picked a lot of stuff out of books he can't use.

If you are going warlock 20, you could take a few item creation feats to go with your combat feats. If your DM wants to be like that, start making scrolls of wish (and using them) at level 12 without paying the XP hit for wish. Make a wand of Summon Monster 4 and summon Unicorns to heal your party. You really can do a lot with Warlock 20.

Look through that link I posted earlier, most of my info comes from there. That said, I like summon swarm at level 1. It is a 2nd level spell and you can use it at first. If you summon bats, for instance, it is an aoe that has blindsense, causes wounding and can nauseate, Just be careful not to let your swarm eat party members.

After that, I think warlock 20 is best as a battlefield controller. Take a high char to get your saves high and use use invocations to gimp your foes. You get the equivalant of Charm, Evards Black Tentacles, and Baleful Polymorph at will. A number of your blast essenses have serious negative effects, like being blindness, nauseated and negative levels. Then, when you face a serious threat and it is live or die, you can bust out those magic items that you crafted with Imbue Item. Things like Scrolls of Gate, Wish or Summon Elemental Monolith. Or have a Scroll of Revivify in case a useful ally (read, pawn) goes down....you can make him get right up immediately with no level or stat loss.

Warlock 20 isn't as susceptible to being overpowered like some other classes (although there are some truly broken things that can be done) but it is versatile and fun.

Yeah, now I see that. So then
Ignore
Dreadful Wrath
Mortalbane
Dark Speech.

Keep
Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Flyby Attack
Extra Invocation
Master of Undeath

Add
Ability Focus : E. Blast
Leadership
Scribe Scroll or other Crafting
Improved Critical: E. Blast

Why would you have Dark Speech on that list anyway? There is only one thing i can think of to use it for and it would make his DM ban his character after the first sessionWink
