Hello Everyone,

A friend of mine has just had her character killed off, unexpectedly, and is completely lost on what to do. I was hoping someone might be able to provide a starting point, or even a fully fleshed build idea, based on our party and a little background information.

Allowed books:
All core 3.0 and 3.5, ToB (no psionics, oriental adventures, or monster classes)
All RAW must apply- the DM definitely won't go for any interpretations on rules.
Current party- 4 people including her (dead), A spiked chain wielding warrior, a mage and a ranged guy.

What she's looking for: Right now we could use a healer, but she's more of the "overglory" or "uber" kind of player, so she'd really prefer to make an offensive caster class.
What she'd really like is some suggestions for Cleric/X arcane caster builds that maximizes both offensive and healing capabilities.
I suggested she consider a caster with sneak attack combo.
Honestly anything awesome would do, even a non-caster, a rogue type, or a warrior type.

Additional details- we typically encounter 3-4 battles between rests, sometimes more (no more than 6 or 7), which means a casting combo that relies on very few powerful spells may not work well.

If you can point her/I to any builds, guidebooks, posts that already address this please do so! I'd love to read.

Thanks in advance!

Ah yes, I totally forgot- we are all level 10, close to level 11.

The campaign isn't expected to last much past level 12- so the other thing she was hoping for was a character that was useful and powerful at 10-12, not just designed for level 20.

Shadow craft- gotcha. I've put it on the list.

Thanks! Any suggestions for things that won't be in the shadowcraft mage's handbook? (I've read the handbook already but there might be new variations created after the handbook).

Any other suggestions?

It's been a while since I looked at SCM handbook, so I don't know if they're mentioned in the core guide, but I personally like both Focused Specialst (ACF) and Nightmare Spinner (Prc) with SCM builds that can work it in. That gives you a total of 4 Illusion spells/spell level and 3 non-illusion spells/spell level before bonus spells from Int at the sacrifice of 1 caster level (which means 1 lost non-illusion of your highest spell level, and new spell progression on par with Sorcerers). That seems a fair trade to me, considering that your illusion spells are likely to be used for any even-level (or potentially higher) Evo or Conj (crea or summ) spells in addition to being illusions.

Gnome Illusionist 3/Master Specialist 2/SCM 5/Nightmare Spinner 1/Master Specialist +2 is pretty solid from where I'm sitting.

But that isn't Core....Are you only allowed to pull from the SRD (PH/DMG/MM)? or are you open to other books?

Core, Druid 10 is solid. Conjurer (or Transmuter) 5/Red Wizard 5 is solid. Conjurer(or Transmuter) 10 is solid.

With your party, Druid 10 or Cleric 10 is fairly straightforward and fills your needs.

Arcane Hierophant might suit both the party and player pretty well.

Play a cleric intelligently instead of playing one as a healbot?

Lawful Neutral Cloistered Cleric 3(no deity, undeath and planning domains), Church Inquisitor 1, Dread Necromancer 1, Dweomerkeeper X.

Trade Knowledge Domain for Knowledge Devotion (taking knowledge nature as your free Knowledge skill.)

Feats: Persistant Spell, Divine Metamagic[persistant spell], Extra Turning, and perhaps that feat that gives you + Spell level to hit/damage of highest level war domain spell memorized.

Simple Crusader->Ruby Knight Vindicator is Uber, and probably fun, too.

You can actually get into Shadowcraft Mage as a 5th level cleric, if you can use Flaws to get extra feats and Heighten spell to qualify early (use DMM: Heighten or Earth Spell to Heighten a 2nd level shadow spell to 4th). At 8th level, you can break the world in half... if you go the DMM: Heighten route. Or go without that, and just be ridiculously powerful and versatile. Here is a build I made based on that.
