Original Post
Hey everyone, I'm working on a Master Transmogrifist that gets access to 9th level spells. I did some searching via Google, but only came up with a lot of outdated information in the archives.

Currently I'm looking at Dragonwrought Kobold Sorcerer 9/ MT 10/ Warshaper 1

I know the Loredrake/Greater Draconic Rite to make up for 3 of the four lost caster levels is fairly heavy on the cheese, but it'll be fun to play, nonetheless.

Feats: Dragonwrought, Eschew Materials, Practiced Spellcaster

Besides those three, what other feats should I be looking at?

As for form combinations, I've noted the following:

Mindflayer w/ mimic for automatic extract success

War Troll w/ black dragon for total regeneration

Roper w/ rhemoraz for 50' heat attack

12 headed hydra w/ any poison or paralysis effect

Fire Giant w/ will-o-wisp immunities

So in summary, what feats should I take besides those three, and are there any other good monstrous combinations I should be looking at?

Note: 3.5 WoTC books only, no XPH, MoI, ToB, ToM

Thanks everyone :D

So should I be focusing on metamagic feats for the sorceror aspect, or more combat feats since I'll be polymorphing into a cryohydra and such?

Come on, CO. Any thoughts?

These are good feats for you:
Arcane Disciple
Arcane Strike (CWar)
Consumptive Field (Libro Mortis)
Extraordinary Spell Aim (CAdv)
Insightful Reflexes (CAdv)
Power Attack (PH)
Praticed Spellcaster (CArc)

Can I ask you just one thing?: where Dragonwrought Kobold is? and how can you get access to 9th level spells?

I don't think Insightful reflexes really fits this build, since it will be a sorceror and charisma based, not intelligence based...

Arcane Strike is an amazing feat for this build. It applies to all natural attacks made during that round. I'm just imagining a cryohydra getting a +8 to hit and +8d4 to all 12 bites in that round. Very nice. Thank you, BontaKun.

As for where Dragonwrought Kobold is, the Dragonwrought feat is in Races of the Dragon. The Draconic Rite of Passage is in there as well, and the Greater Rite is in the web enhancement That nets me a +1 Sorceror level. The Loredrake archetype from Dragons of Eberron (which is somewhat debatable RAW v RAI) will net me another +2 Sorceror levels. So Sorceror 9 + the 6 from Master Transmogrifist + 3 is 18 levels of sorceror = 9th level spells. :D

Switch that warshaper level to white dragonspawn if you can, even the errated version at 1 la isnt so bad; it just serves as a plot hook for the dm! Bonus points if you can get la buyoff allowed and a third prestige class tacked ontop of that. =P

I don't have any Dragonlance, so that's out. Sorry. The warshaper really fits, though. The weapon size/different natural weapon really meshes with the infinite variety ability. And the immunity to crits is nice too.

Dang. Whats your plan for epic then? Finish warshaper? And no way I could persuade you to switch those 6+ levels of sorcerer into something prestidigious?

Yeah, I'll probably finish warshaper first, although I, unfortunately, haven't had a campaign run into epic yet, so I'm not too worried about that yet.

What prestige class would mesh well with this build without requiring heavy feat/skill investment? Intelligence isn't going to be a strong point, and early on, most of the skill points are needed for disguise, since it isn't a class skill for sorc. Plus, the first 2 feats are pretty much chosen for me.

I guess I could go prestige for 7-9, but it only works if we have a viable 3 level class. I guess I forgot to mention that we have a houserule that we have to finish a prestige class before picking up another one. Sorry for just remembering that.

Well, warshaper is a short PrC and with some really decent abilities. So if you go into epic - finish it.

Why would you take warshaper instead of another class that advances spellcasting? Even another level of sorc gets you an additional 8th and 9th level spell known. Seems like a much better deal than a measly +4 to str and con.

Another thing to remember is that MasTrans favored shapes must be shapes you can turn into via Polymorph(so there is a 15hd cap).

Well going from 19th to 20th level I'm choosing between one extra 8th and 9th level spell or immunity to criticals and a free Improved Natural Attack (ANY). Since by that level, I believe I'll be focusing on my polymorph forms, I think the immunity and INA is a nicer bet. I could probably pick up time stop as an additional ninth level spell, but I'm fairly certain I'll be using all those slots for Shapechange.

I do plan on finishing out sorcerer or a prestige class if things ever reach epic levels, but I think warshaper is a bit more useful right there. I could be wrong, though.

And I know that the forms are limited to the ones I can turn into via polymorph, but infinite variety does not limit what extra ability I can acquire to a favored shape, which is good. That's why I was wondering what other combinations I should look at besides the ones I mentioned above. Do you have any other ones to add? :D

If your willing to risk your familiar and share Shapechange, I'd say keep it, your getting plenty of feats. Having your familiar Shapechange into something less threatening than you with buffs could be advantagous. If you can't think of anything to do with that, drop it for the sub level and Draconic Heritage.

For feats I highly recommend Practiced Spellcaster, just to help protect against Greater Dispel Magic. Extend Spell should certainly be on the list, and Empower has merit. If your planning on playing up the Draconic angle, nab some more of those feats, and metabreath feats to use with the Dragon Breath spell.
Look to get some of those nice self buff divine spells on your list via Arcane Disiple or the like.

Make certain to nab Epic feats, the one that gives higher level slots (Improved Spell Capacity?) is a must, even without many metamagic feats. You could take it three times to gain access to 12th level slots, enough to Empower Shapechange or Quicken a Polymorph Any Object (presuming the right feats).

Good gaming!

Oh! I forgot to mention, I'm taking Domain Access ACF to get the Competition Domain for Righteous Might and Divine Power.

Improved Spell Capacity, eh? I think I might use that to persist a divine power... That'll flow nicely with the Master Transmogrifist. So that throws down 3 more feats, ISC, Extend, and Persist.

I have this problem of not having an incredibly high number of hit points, and a familiar with half of that, I feel would be a liability to bring into battle shapechanged.

I can take Practiced Spellcaster twice, and with items I should be able to get my caster level into the 30's easily. MT auto extends my shapechange, so I should easily be able to get them to last all day...

So 5 of my 9 open feats are covered now. Thanks

Any other suggestion for the last 4?

By RAW you can't take Practiced Spellcaster more than once, and either way it only improves your CL up to your HD. I presume some form of houserule is going on?

You can take Improved Spell Capacity, several times. I'd take the full three in your case unless another Epic Feat seems good to you. With high CHA its a golden feat.

Improved Toughness can get you 25hp, and if you really need it Epic toughness could get you 20 more. As another epic option, Epic Prowess gets you +1 to hit each time it is taken.
I'm AFB, so I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

Wow. I can't believe I never noticed that about Practiced Spellcaster... That kinda sucks, since I'm 8 CL out.

The idea was that PS x2 would take my CL up to HD (25) and the greater draconic rite would get me +1, along with loredrake a +2. Add in an ioun stone and possibly the prayer beads will get me into the 30's. Gotta think of something else though now...

The Improved Spell Capacity is nice, but I'm thinking it would only be useful for metamagic self buffs, right? Without a full CL, I feel like I should be veering away from BC and DD spells, as most allow saves :/ Hrm..

Edit: How does this look for my feat list? I'll update the first post again...
