Short version is I have a player that is new to tabletops. He stumbled across "Cohorts" and thought that it would be a good way to put his high CHA to use.
1)Do any classes come to mind for this, i know of the Marshall(seems "meh"), Paladin, and legendary commander.
2)What is a good set of feats and skills to get a good bit out of a Cohort(and/or Followers) or two?
3)Is there a guide or handbook to help with the process and use of cohorts?

None. Leadership is the single most broken feat in the game, bar none, and will destroy your campaign. Think about it; Why would you allow a feat that almost doubles the character's level, just flat-out? And then gives a significant amount of money on top, just for good measure?
But, really, if you're going to allow the single worst-designed element in 3.5, he take any T1 class, it really doesn't matter much, they all have access to each other's lists anyways. Or go with a PsiArt, it really won't make much of a difference. Or, what the hell, a kobold and go Pun-Pun, because, let's be honest, there's not much of a practical difference with any of these in how spectacularly it will destroy the campaign.
While I appreciate the dire (if not a bit rude) warning, this particular player has no desire or any clue how to break the game. He is an all around good guy that wants to play to the fluff of his character. The cohort he wants is a Fighter NPC that they have interacted with a few times and has gotten along with the group. He isnt reaching for anything game-breaking in my opinion. But once again, thank you for the warning.

If thats all he wants give it to him for free. Say "This dude starts following you around. Here are his stats. If you ask nicely he will do stuff for you".
