#1 mister-lamp Nov 26, 2010 12:32:27	i am going to be playing a binder in an upcoming 8th level campaign. so far, i have decided that i either want to focus on gaze attacks or be an anima mage. i have read the binder handbook but it didnt help so i decided to ask the community for help. could someone suggest good feats for the gaze focused character. if i cant find enough, then i will try anima mage.

#8 dandu Nov 26, 2010 16:48:43	Did you read the Anima Mage handbook? There are two route to this: either you focus on Cha, or you go for a Cha/Int character. Both are viable.

#10 waazraath Nov 27, 2010 11:24:01	If you go anima mage, use persist (if allowed), vestige metamagic lets you persit for free, always nice. Altenatively, if your DM doesn't allow this, you can use quicken. Then again, if you start playing on level 8, it's a great level for full binder, cause from there you can bind 2 vestiges already and start making combo's... anima mage is more powerfull (definitely in the long run), but at level 8, there are plenty of powerfull combinations for binders already (2 gaze attacks, or malphas & andromalius for some decent rogueishnes, etc.)

#12 waazraath Nov 28, 2010 16:03:25	If you go anima mage, consider to use the feat residual metamagic (complete mage) too, always nice to persist 2 spells without using the higher spell-level (if it works with the spells you want to persist, of course). Note that precocious apprentice (or whatever it's name is) officialy doesn't work to qualify for prestige classes like anima mage (I presume you use that and binder 1 with improved binding?), but if your DM allows it, it's fine. #13 bigtuna Dec 02, 2010 17:30:35	If precocious apprentice doesn't work - see if Illumian and imp sigil (Krau) might do the trick. If you have to have 4 levels of sorc. before entering anima mage your binder powers are gonna fall behind. Foclar for instance is great for a few levels but then 3d6 reflex for ½ starts to be a waste of an action... Extend + persist +residual metamagic is a nice combo. And sure a wizard is better than a sorc - but to use the anima mages powers you want to make good pacts - even with the -5 frem exploit vestige - so sorc is the way to go... When sorc - remember dragonblooded - if human - be silverbrown. If Illumian take the feat dragon heritage. With the many vestiges you have can have a whole range of options - but better stick to something that will work in must encounters. Binders seems to suffer from "tomorrow i could do something about that" if you bind the wrong vestige. Especially on the low levels when Sorc doesn' have that many spells. Persist spells - the Bite of the wererat is a nice buff - helping with ranged touch attacks, AC and survivability. Leraje - could perhaps be used with ranged touch attacks giving you an early split ray or twin spell effect - but ask your GM the text just say - "as a standard action you can make a ranged attack..." - so perhaps you can't cast the spell in the same round - then reach spell + pratical metamagic+ combust is nice daming dealing combo - if you want to be a blaster... Buer makes you the party off-cpmbat healbot Astaroth (Cityscape Web Enhancement) is a nice social encounter + battlefield control at lvl 8 (i assume imp binding - it's a must) Once you get greater inv. Malphas' sudden strike is a nice little extra dam (assuming you do blasting). And then you just wait for Balam and later Zceryll.
#14 mister-lamp Dec 05, 2010 14:19:24	my DM has allowed me the take the two feats that allow me to ENTER anima mage at lvl2, then retrain them later. so i plan to have roughly 20th lvl sorc casting and 19th lvl binding at 20th lvl. thanks for the advice on feats.
