I'm playing in a planescape-esque campaign, where all campaign settings are included.  I want to play as a Dread Necromancer, but I can't find any good builds for one.

Some of the homebrews are as follows;
1.  No Prestiege Class Before 10th Level
2.  No races outside of the players handbook, or that have been approved
3.  You can use races from 4e, as long as you reformat them for 3.5e

In case it matters, it's a rather large group, with 7-9 people.

Edit: Forgot to mention.  No LA.  At All.

Thank you for the suggestion; I reviewed the handbook, but still hope that some one could come and assist me.

BTW, ( And this has nothing to do with any of the rest of the thread, just something that I feel like pointing out ) My favorite thing to ever have happened in D&D was when I went into a portal... and it came out 10000 feet in the air... and I was surrounded by 5 great wyrms, of each chromatic type.  Best... encounter... ever.

Corpsecrafter, Destruction Retribution, Tomb Tainted Soul, and other corpsecrafter feats will help. Tomb Tainted Soul helps you because you can heal yourself outside combat. Destruction Retribution can heal you or your other undead. Try to get a Hydra for an undead minion.

Can Dread Necros qualify for Mage of the Arcane Order if they take Arcane Preparation? That would grant you access to all PHB wizard spells...

The Dread Necro handbook has a list of suggestions as well.

Should work well enough.
Dread necros, as spontaneous, can also qualify for fiend-blooded, but only go there if you need 1-4 specific spells to your spell list. You're _probably_ better off with Arcane Disciple and other spell list adders.

Oh, and what did your DM say considering versatile spellcaster? Certain interpretation allows a VS to gain spells of a higher level 2 levels early.

I think that I might want to switch my focus from Necromancy to Summoning... what do you guys think 'bout that?

In a dedicatedly multiplanar world, Necromancer might be cooler than Summoner...a summoner archetype has to rely on limited lists for most casting (except planar bindings etc.) while a necromancer can skeletonize any broken monster with bones. Of course, this depends on what your DM rules about outsiders' corpses disappearing.

I'm afriad that I believe that you misinterpreted what I said earlier; what I meant was that all of the campaign worlds were in the campaign setting; so a plane shift spell could take you from Toril to Krynn.

Ah sorry. That makes a necromancer better actually...no need to worry about disappearing outsider corpses, you can exploit any monster with bones from any campaign setting.

Damn all the classes looking epic...

Now I'm stuck between friggin' Totemist and Conjurer and Necromancer... Which should I go with?  I don't care much about power-levels... I just want to know which one sounds the coolest.

Well, I know you don't care about power levels, buuuuut malconvoker is pretty damned good. Unless your DM is handing you sweet corpses on a silver platter, definitely better than Dread Necromancer.

As for cool...well, I'm not sure how much I can help you with that :P

If you do consider going Malconvoker though, I'd recommend shuffling things around so you have more levels of it sooner...there are some really clutch class abilities you definitely want ASAP in that class, esp. at level 5

Most of CO read this and thought "Sweet encounter! Easy win for the PC though..." ;)

That does sound epic. May have to do something similar in one of my games sometime...
